Chapter 25 - The Silent Roads of Tomorrow[24]

EPISODE 24 The Silent Roads of Tomorrow

The next days after Mia's quiet promise felt like walking through a dream one where the world held its breath.

The Farmer Warriors prepared to leave the village again, but not like before.

This time the journey felt heavier.

The air was colder.

Even the birds stayed quiet.

It was as if the land itself sensed what was coming.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

Mia tightened the straps on her small traveling bag. The village gates opened slowly, and a breeze carried the dust across the ground like memories being blown away.

Mike walked beside her, silent as ever, stealing small glances at her. He wanted to ask how she felt… but every time he tried, his heart pounded too fast.

Jaro walked ahead, tall and protective, scouting the road.

Lina stayed close to Mia, her steps nervous, her mind full of thoughts of Luna.

None of them spoke at first.

The silence wasn't awkward.

It was heavy.

Like a story still being written.

THE ROADS CHANGE

They followed the old path that connected their village to smaller communities. Usually, they'd hear farmers shouting to each other, kids laughing, livestock running across open fields.

But today…

Nothing.

Not even a goat bleating.

Not a horse pulling a wagon.

Not a child running.

Just emptiness.

Mia paused and whispered,

"Why is the road so quiet?"

Jaro lowered his voice.

"People must be hiding. The Witch's guards were seen last night."

Lina stopped walking.

"But this road was always safe…"

Mike placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Not anymore. Luna's influence travels faster than we do."

Lina winced at her sister's name, but kept walking.

A REST STOP WITH FEARFUL FAMILIES

Hours later, they reached a small village called Redwillow, known for its warm people and shared meals. But now?

Doors were shut.

Windows nailed.

Shadows moved inside houses like scared animals.

A man peeked through a wooden crack.

He whispered sharply,

"Go away! We can't help anyone!"

Mia stepped forward gently.

"We mean no harm. We're the Farmer War....."

The man flinched.

"No! If she sees us helping you, we're finished."

Lina swallowed hard.

"She? You mean Luna?"

The man hesitated… then nodded.

"She came through yesterday. Not herself. Not the girl we knew. She brought the guards. Warned us not to feed you, not to shelter you."

The man's voice cracked.

"Her eyes… they were cold."

Mia felt something inside her twist painfully hurting for Luna, hurting for what she'd become.

Jaro bowed respectfully and pulled Mia away.

"We can't force them. Let's keep moving."

As they walked off, the man whispered through the crack:

"I'm sorry… I truly am."

MIKE'S SECRET MOMENT

The sun was lowering, painting the fields gold and orange.

Mia walked ahead, lost in thought.

Mike hung back a little, his eyes fixed on her silhouette.

He whispered softly to himself,

"You're getting stronger… and further away from me."

His chest ached with things he could never say.

Then he touched the pocket where he kept a tiny white fragment he found years ago one piece of the vanished stone Mia didn't remember.

It still glowed when he held it.

"Maybe one day you'll know," he murmured.

Then he hurried to catch up.

MIA'S UNEASY DISCOVERY

As night approached, they camped near an old abandoned well. Jaro built the fire, Lina prepared a small meal, and Mike fetched water.

Mia sat alone on a rock, staring at her hands.

That warm hum inside her wasn't going away. In fact… it was growing.

The wind carried a strange whisper around her. Not words… more like a presence. A reminder.

A warning.

She closed her eyes and breathed deeply.

"Is this what the storm was trying to tell me?"

Suddenly the fire flickered wildly.

The ground trembled for only a moment soft but clear.

Jaro jumped up.

"You felt that?"

Lina grabbed her knife.

"What was it?"

Mike's eyes scanned the darkness.

"It wasn't natural."

Mia stood slowly.

"It was calling me."

They all turned to her, confused.

"The next journey," she said softly, "is already starting. Something is waking up… something meant for me."

AND FAR AWAY… LUNA WATCHES

High above on a distant cliff, Luna stood with the Witch beside her.

The Witch smiled darkly.

"They are growing. But you, my child… you are becoming something far greater."

Luna didn't smile back.

Her eyes were sharp, cold, hurt, and powerful.

She whispered,

"Let them grow. I'll be ready."

The wind around her spun like a blade, sharp and angry.
