Chapter 31 - The Journey Begins Without Her[30]

EPISODE 30 The Journey Begins Without Her

The morning after the storm dawned gray and silent. Dustfall felt hollow, almost lifeless. Crops swayed gently in the wind, but the fields seemed to mourn. Every villager moved in quiet whispers, staring at the horizon where the lightning had disappeared.

Mike sat on a low rock, hands gripping his knees, eyes fixed on the distant trail of golden light that stretched to the Kingdom of Kings. His chest ached, his mind a storm of heartbreak, anger, and determination.

"She's gone," Lina whispered softly, kneeling beside him. "And she didn't hear you… she didn't hear what you wanted to say."

Mike swallowed hard, his throat tight. "I… I can't believe it. I finally… I finally was ready to tell her, and now… she's gone. Taken."

Jaro stepped forward, a hand on Mike's shoulder. "We have no choice. If we stay here, if we hesitate, she'll be lost forever. The Kingdom of Kings isn't a place we just walk into. It's dangerous. Dark. And powerful forces will be waiting."

Lina looked toward the village. Villagers gathered behind them, some curious, some fearful, others ashamed that they hadn't helped protect her. Dustfall had changed. The quiet obedience, the fearful eyes they all seemed to reflect Luna's growing influence.

Mike rose slowly, his fists clenched. "We won't let her stay there. No matter the cost, we'll get her back. Together."

Jaro nodded. "Then we need a plan. First, we find the fastest way to follow the lightning's path. Second, we prepare for anything… and I mean anything."

THE STRATEGY

For hours, they worked quietly but urgently. Lina gathered maps of surrounding regions, marking every road, river, and village they knew. Jaro collected weapons, sharpening swords and checking bows. Mike's thoughts never left Mia her voice, her laughter, the warmth in her hands, the way her eyes glimmered even in the smallest light.

"Do you think she's okay?" Lina asked, breaking the tense silence.

Mike clenched his jaw. "I have to believe she is. She's stronger than anyone. And she won't give up. Neither will I."

Jaro added, "But we can't just follow blindly. The Kingdom of Kings is not like Dustfall. Five lords, one queen… and who knows what else? We need allies, information… and we have no time."

The villagers watched them quietly, unsure, hesitant. Some of them had seen what Mia could do with the stone, what she had done for their lands. But now, without her, fear was stronger than hope.

THE EMERGING DANGER

In the shadows of Dustfall, Luna watched. She had been sent by the Witch to ensure the Farmer Warriors did not succeed. She smiled coldly as she saw Mike and the others organizing their search.

"They think they can follow her," she whispered. "They have no idea what awaits them. And when I meet her again… she will not remember them. She will be mine."

Her eyes glowed faintly with dark energy. The Witch's influence was spreading. Her power was growing. Dustfall, once a place of hope, had become a testing ground for the battle to come.

THE NIGHT BEFORE DEPARTURE

That night, Mike sat alone on the ridge, staring at the trail of light that vanished into the distance. He thought of Mia. Of her laughter. Of the way she had never truly known the happiness she deserved.

"She has to be okay," he whispered to himself. "I won't fail her. I can't."

Jaro and Lina approached, placing a hand each on his shoulder. "We'll get her back," Jaro said firmly.

"But how?" Lina asked softly. "The Kingdom of Kings… we don't even know what we'll face."

Mike's eyes hardened. "Then we'll face it together. Every danger, every shadow… every lie. And we'll bring her back."

He looked to the sky, the trail of golden light gone, the storm vanished. Yet inside him, a question burned louder than anything else.

THE BIG QUESTION

As they prepared to leave Dustfall at first light, Mike turned to Jaro and Lina, voice steady but urgent.

"Tell me this," he said, staring toward the unseen Kingdom of Kings. "If we go after her… what if we're too late?"

The three of them fell silent.

Mike clenched his fists. The wind picked up around them, carrying whispers of destiny, power, and danger yet unseen.

"Can we really save Mia… before she becomes someone we no longer know?"

The question lingered in the air. The fields were silent. Dustfall waited. And the trail to the Kingdom of Kings stretched endlessly, filled with shadows, challenges, and unknown fate.

The journey had begun.

And no one least of all Mike knew what awaited them.
