EPISODE 29 The Lightning's Choice
The sky above Dustfall had never looked like this before. Clouds churned violently, golden sparks dancing through the air like molten fire. The wind howled, tearing through the fields, bending trees, and carrying the smell of ozone.
Mia stood at the edge of the hill, her hands glowing with warmth that pulsed like a heartbeat. The storm inside her had grown stronger in the last days, and now it was merging with the storm above her. She could feel it the sky itself calling her.
Mike ran to her side, his chest tight with worry. "Mia… you shouldn't be out here alone!"
"I can't stop it," she said, eyes fixed on the horizon. "It's calling me, Mike. I… I have to go."
Jaro and Lina stayed close behind, ready to fight anything, but even they felt the pull of the storm power too great for mere mortals to face.
THE CONFESSION INTERRUPTED
Mike swallowed hard, the words he had been carrying for years pressing on his lips. He wanted to tell her, to finally say what he had kept hidden.
"Mia… I...."
But the wind howled louder, tearing at his voice. The golden sparks in the sky surged, brighter and faster. The ground shook beneath them, and the air thickened like it had a heartbeat of its own.
Mia looked at him, startled. "Mike…?"
He tried to step closer, reaching out, but the storm's force pushed him back.
"You don't understand…" he shouted, "I...."
The first strike of lightning hit.
THE STRIKE
A massive bolt ripped through the sky, golden and pure, striking directly onto Mia. She screamed not in pain, but in shock, in awe, in destiny being rewritten.
Her golden energy flared, mixing with the lightning, creating a brilliant explosion of light. Mike shielded his eyes, stumbling backward as the light engulfed her completely.
Her voice echoed faintly: "Mike… I...."
And then she was gone.
The storm vanished as quickly as it had formed. The hill was silent. The sky was calm. And in the exact spot where Mia had been, there was only empty ground.
MIKE'S HORROR
Mike fell to his knees, chest heaving, staring at nothing but the empty air. His heart felt like it had been ripped from him.
"Mia…" he whispered, voice breaking. Tears ran down his face. "No… no, stay… please!"
Jaro crouched beside him. "She's gone… taken by… something beyond us."
Lina's hand trembled on his shoulder. "But… she's alive, right? We'll find her. We have to."
Mike's eyes widened as he looked up. Across the sky, a faint trail of golden lightning stretched toward the distance—the Kingdom of Kings.
"She's there," he whispered. "I saw… I know where she went."
THE PAIN OF SILENCE
Mike sank to the ground, fists digging into the dirt. The words he had wanted to say—the confession, the promises—vanished into the wind along with her.
She hadn't heard him.
She hadn't known.
He had failed to tell her… at the very moment she was pulled away from him forever.
The pain burned deep. Every heartbeat, every breath felt hollow.
Jaro knelt beside him, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "Mike… we'll get her back. We have to. You'll see her again."
Mike looked at him, eyes full of determination and sorrow. "I'll… I'll bring her back. No matter what it takes."
Lina's voice was quiet but firm. "Then we start now. We have to find a way to the Kingdom of Kings."
THE FUTURE AHEAD
Far above, the wind whispered secrets. The storm had chosen Mia, thrusting her into a destiny none of them could yet understand.
And far below, Mike stared at the golden trail of lightning, trembling with grief, heartbreak, and a fierce determination.
He had lost her for now.
But he would not lose her forever.
The Kingdom of Kings awaited.
And the journey to bring her back was about to begin.
