Chapter 28 - Shadows Over the Fields[27]

EPISODE 27 Shadows Over the Fields

The morning arrived cold, gray, and still. Even the birds avoided the paths. Dustfall's countryside no longer felt alive.

Mia walked ahead of the group, feeling the warmth in her hands pulsing again. It was stronger now, more insistent, like it was calling her toward something though she didn't yet know what.

Mike kept pace beside her, eyes flicking nervously to the sky. He hadn't stopped thinking about last night's storm.

"The energy… it's different today," he said quietly.

Mia nodded. "I feel it too. Something is moving… closer."

Jaro and Lina walked behind them, alert. Every crack of a twig made them flinch. Every rustle of leaves felt like a warning.

A DISTURBING DISCOVERY

As they reached a small clearing near the river, the group froze. The ground was scarred, torn with perfect circles of destruction. Crops that had been planted weeks ago were now wilted and blackened.

Jaro cursed under his breath. "Luna's work. There's no other explanation."

Mia knelt to examine the soil. The warmth inside her reacted violently, sending shivers up her arms. She could feel the hatred that had carved this destruction—Luna's jealousy, sharpened into a weapon.

Lina's face tightened. "How could she do this? She was supposed to be our friend."

Mike's jaw clenched. "She's no longer the girl we knew. And the Witch… she's making it worse."

Mia closed her eyes. She could feel the anger, the despair, and the fear radiating from the ground. But more than that she could feel her own power stirring, growing stronger in response.

THE FIRST CONFRONTATION

Before they could move, a shadow detached itself from the tree line. Luna stepped forward, her eyes cold, her hands glowing faintly with dark energy the Witch had given her.

"Thought you could escape me?" she hissed.

Mia stood tall. "Luna… it doesn't have to be this way."

"It does," Luna snapped. "You left me behind. You and your little group… you made me nothing. And now it's my turn."

Mike stepped in front of Mia. "Luna, stop this! You're stronger than this darkness!"

But Luna only smiled coldly. Shadows formed around her, swirling like a storm.

Jaro drew his sword. "Stay back!" he shouted.

The air pulsed with energy. Mia felt her heartbeat sync with the hum inside her. She didn't fully understand it, but she knew one thing: she had to protect her friends—no matter what it took.

A POWER UNLEASHED

The first blast came from Luna, aimed at Mia. It struck the ground, splitting the soil with a sharp crack.

Mia's hands flared. She responded instinctively, sending a pulse of golden light that shattered the attack. The two powers clashed, light against shadow, warmth against cold.

Mike and Jaro dodged debris, Lina shouting orders, trying to cover the group. Trees were knocked over, soil exploded into the air.

Luna laughed a cold, bitter sound. "You've grown stronger… but you can't stop me!"

Mia felt fear for the first time. Not for herself, but for her friends. And for Dustfall.

THE ESCAPE

The clash grew louder, faster. Rocks flew. Trees splintered. The Farmer Warriors couldn't hold the line forever.

"We have to move!" Mia shouted, grabbing Mike and Lina.

Jaro hesitated, looking at Luna. "She's not just a girl anymore…" he muttered.

Mia yanked him along. "We'll deal with her later! Now we survive!"

They ran through the clearing as Luna's laughter followed them. Shadows stretched across the ground, reaching for them.

Mia's heart pounded. Every step brought exhaustion, fear, and a rush of power she couldn't fully control.

A MOMENT OF REFLECTION

Finally, they reached the ridge above the valley. They collapsed, breathing heavily, hearts racing. The sun had not risen yet; the sky was still dark and heavy.

Mia sat down, her hands trembling. "She's… powerful," she whispered.

Mike reached for her hand, gripping it tightly. "You're stronger. And we'll stop her. Together."

Lina's voice shook. "But… can we really?"

Mia looked at the horizon, feeling the hum in her chest intensify. She didn't answer. She didn't need to. She felt it her destiny was moving faster now.

And the lightning… far in the distance, it began to dance.

Something was coming. Something unstoppable.

And Mia had no choice but to face it.
