EPISODE 25 The Night the Air Changed
The night around the Farmer Warriors didn't sit still.
Not like normal nights in the village where crickets sang and the wind hummed quietly through the crops.
This night had movement sharp, restless, warning movement.
The fire crackled too high.
The wind bent the grass in one direction… then another… then stopped completely.
Mia felt the shift first.
A sudden heat ran up her spine.
She stood abruptly, eyes scanning the dark fields.
"Something's coming," she whispered.
Mike jumped up, gripping his wooden staff.
Jaro drew his blade.
Lina backed into the firelight, shaking but ready.
The silence stretched.
Then
A boom shook the ground.
Not huge.
Not enough to knock them over.
But enough to tell them one thing:
They were no longer alone.
THE RUNNING SHADOWS
Shapes darted through the darkness—fast, thin, low to the ground. At first they looked like animals, but they moved more like people crawling at unnatural speed.
"Witch guards?" Lina gasped.
"No," Jaro said, eyes narrowing. "These things are different."
Mia stepped forward, the strange heat in her chest rising again.
Her palms tingled.
Her breath felt heavier.
Mike saw it instantly.
"Mia… don't go too far!"
But Mia wasn't listening. Something was pulling her guiding her like invisible hands on her shoulders.
The shadows circled the campsite.
Then one of them jumped into the firelight.
It was a guard but twisted.
Its eyes were glowing pale green.
Its skin cracked like dried mud.
Its mouth opened wider than a human should.
Lina screamed.
Jaro swung his blade and cut it across the torso but the creature didn't flinch.
Mia stepped forward, raising her hand.
She didn't know why.
She didn't know how.
But it felt like her body already knew what to do.
A pulse of warm, golden light burst from her palm, blasting the creature back into the bushes.
Everyone froze even they didn't understand what happened.
Mike stared at her with wide eyes.
"Mia… that wasn't normal."
She backed away, breathing fast.
"I don't know what's happening to me!"
THE ATTACK BREAKS OPEN
More creatures lunged from the shadows four, then six, then ten.
Jaro and Mike fought fiercely, pushing them back from the fire.
Lina ducked low, moving quickly, stabbing with precision.
Mia tried to help but each glowing blast she fired felt bigger, hotter, harder to control.
One shot went wide burning a whole line of grass behind them.
"Mia! Watch it!" Jaro shouted.
"I'm trying!" she yelled back, fear squeezing her throat.
But the creatures weren't coming for Jaro.
Not for Mike.
Not for Lina.
They were coming for her.
Every single one moved toward Mia like she was a magnet pulling them.
The Witch had sent them.
They were after the power awakening inside her.
A QUICK ESCAPE
"Run! We can't fight all of them!" Mike yelled.
Jaro didn't argue. He grabbed Mia's arm and pulled her into the fields.
Lina followed, panting, stumbling over the tall weeds.
Behind them, the creatures shrieked and crashed through the bush like a stampede.
They ran faster.
Branches whipped their faces.
Rocks cut their feet.
The night felt endless.
Mia tripped, but Mike caught her, pulling her up.
"We have to get to the high ridge!" he said.
"The creatures don't climb well!"
Lina looked back.
"They're getting closer!"
Mia felt her heartbeat shaking her whole body.
The golden warmth inside her chest grew hotter and hotter too hot.
Her vision blurred.
Her ears rang.
She stumbled again.
This time Mike didn't catch her
She caught herself.
In mid-air.
For a moment, Mia wasn't touching the ground.
She hovered… just a little…
then dropped back into the grass.
Jaro and Lina stared in shock.
Mike's breath caught in his throat.
"Mia… what are you becoming?"
She didn't know.
She didn't want to know.
Not yet.
But she had no time to think.
The creatures burst through the tall grass again.
Jaro roared, "GO!"
They sprinted the last stretch toward the ridge.
THE RIDGE AND THE WARNING
They reached the top and collapsed, gasping for breath.
The creatures tried to climb—slipping, clawing at the rocks—but they couldn't reach them.
For now, they were safe.
Mia wiped sweat from her forehead, trembling.
She had never felt so weak and powerful at the same time.
Lina hugged her knees.
"Why would they come for us? Why now?"
Jaro stared out into the night, jaw tight.
"Because the world is changing… and Mia is changing with it."
Mike finally spoke quiet but strong.
"I think this is the warning the storm tried to send us."
Mia looked at the distant horizon, where lightning flashed without thunder.
The Kingdom of Kings.
The next part of her destiny.
It was calling.
And she wasn't ready.
Not yet.
But time wasn't going to wait for her anymore.
