EPISODE 28 The Gathering Storm
The wind had grown colder, sharper, and alive with movement. Even Dustfall's highest trees bent as if bowing to some invisible power.
Mia, Mike, Jaro, and Lina trudged through the uneven paths, their boots scuffing dry soil. Every step felt heavier than the last, as though the earth itself was warning them: something enormous was coming.
The warmth inside Mia's hands pulsed violently now. She felt it not just in her palms, but coursing through her entire body, like a river of fire and light.
Mike glanced at her repeatedly, worry etched deep in his face. "Mia… you okay?" he asked.
She shook her head slightly. "It's… hard to control. It feels alive."
Jaro's jaw tightened. "Then we need to be ready. Whatever's coming… it won't wait."
Lina's eyes flicked nervously toward the hills. "I think it's already here. I can feel it… like the air itself is charged."
LUNA STRIKES AGAIN
They hadn't gone far when the first signs appeared. Small, swirling clouds of black energy rose from the ground, moving unnaturally fast toward them. Shadows stretched and twisted, forming shapes that made even the bravest Farmer Warrior hesitate.
"It's Luna," Mike muttered under his breath. "She's… faster than ever."
Mia stepped forward instinctively. "Stay behind me," she said, her voice steady despite the adrenaline pounding in her chest.
Shadows erupted from the ground, dozens of them, twisting and clawing like living darkness. They shot toward the group with terrifying speed.
Mia flung her hands outward, and a blinding wave of golden light erupted, scattering the shadows in every direction. Trees splintered, rocks cracked, and the ground beneath them shook.
Mike grabbed her arm, holding tight. "Mia… don't push too far!"
"I have to!" she shouted. Her power hummed, louder and more insistent than ever. "I can feel it… the storm is coming!"
THE POWER OF UNITY
Jaro, Lina, and Mike moved as one, fending off smaller shadows, keeping Mia safe as she unleashed her growing power. Each wave of light she sent out burned through the dark, but it also drained her. Her legs shook, her breath came short, and sweat stung her eyes.
Still, she couldn't stop. She had to protect them. She had to be ready.
The shadows screamed as they fell apart, hissing in the night. Luna's laughter echoed faintly in the distance a sharp, chilling reminder that she was watching, waiting for the right moment.
Mia's chest burned. She fell to one knee. "I… I can't stop it. It's too strong."
Mike knelt beside her, hands gripping hers. "You're stronger than you know. We'll face it together. Whatever comes, we won't let her win!"
THE LIGHTNING BEGINS TO FORM
Then, something changed.
The sky trembled. Clouds twisted unnaturally. Golden sparks of lightning began to form, hovering over the hills like an ominous crown. Mia's power reacted immediately, pulsing faster than ever.
Mike's eyes widened. "That… that's not normal."
The wind whipped around them, tearing at their clothes and hair. The temperature dropped suddenly. The very air seemed to vibrate with raw energy.
Mia looked up, her breath caught in her throat. "It's… calling me."
Jaro grabbed her shoulder. "What's calling you?"
Before she could answer, a massive streak of lightning split the sky, brighter than the sun. It struck the ground ahead but not in the dirt. It targeted Mia.
Mike's heart stopped. "No…!" he shouted, running forward, but the earth beneath him seemed to shiver, slowing him down.
Mia raised her hands instinctively, golden energy flaring around her, matching the brilliance of the lightning. She screamed—a mixture of fear, power, and awe—as the storm's energy engulfed her.
THE MOMENT OF DESTINY
Mike reached out with all his strength. "Mia! Don't...."
But the lightning's pull was absolute. In a blinding flash, Mia was gone.
Mike fell to his knees, blinded by the brilliance, stunned, and screaming her name. The storm vanished as suddenly as it had appeared, leaving him staring at the empty ground where she had been.
His chest ached. His hands trembled. His heart shattered.
And in the distance, he saw it—a glowing path in the sky. A single trail of lightning, leading straight toward the Kingdom of Kings.
He knew. He saw where she had gone.
And now, there was no turning back.
THE SILENT AFTERMATH
Jaro helped Mike to his feet. Lina placed her hand on his shoulder, her own eyes brimming with tears.
"She's alive," Lina said softly. "We'll find her. We have to."
Mike nodded, clenching his fists. The pain of loss burned inside him, but underneath it, a spark of determination ignited.
"I'll follow her," he whispered. "No matter what. I'll get her back."
Jaro and Lina exchanged glances. They could see the resolve in him, and in themselves.
And somewhere, far away, Luna's laughter echoed again. The Witch's plans were unfolding, and the Kingdom of Kings awaited.
Mia's journey had begun.
And Mike's quest to follow her was only just starting.
