Chapter 10 - Fever

Looking at the menu

"Sir, everything looks delicious," Liana blurted out unknowingly.

"In that case, (taking the menu book from Liana's hand) just bring all of these items here," David said without looking at the prices.

Hearing David's words slightly startled Liana. How could he say that so easily, without even checking the cost?

While waiting for the food to arrive, Liana continued her work. But not long after, David's phone rang.

David answered it because it was a call from his colleague at the hospital.

"What... does it have to be now? Alright, I'll be right there. Just prepare all the equipment," David said into the phone.

After hanging up, he looked at Liana and Rey, feeling a little awkward to tell them.

"What is it, Sir?" Liana asked.

"I apologize, but it seems I can't stay for lunch with you both. I just got an emergency call from the hospital. I have to leave immediately to perform surgery," David explained, sounding regretful.

Hearing that, Liana understood David's current situation. After all, his dedication as a doctor came first.

"It's not a problem, Sir. I understand that your job is much more important than this lunch. You can go now; I'll just eat with Rey. Right, Rey?" Liana said, giving Rey a reassuring look.

"Maybe next time I will really clear my schedule so I can spend time with you, Rey," David said to Rey.

"In that case, I'll go first. Liana, I'm entrusting Rey to you, okay?" David said as he left in a hurry.

After David left

"Mom, are you going to leave me too, just like Dad?" Rey said, slightly disappointed with David.

"Of course not, Rey, we'll still eat together. We'll finish the food just the two of us, okay? If we can't finish it, we can pack it up for the doctor," Liana said firmly, explaining to Rey.

"Yes, Mother Liana," Rey replied.

Returning to the office, this time Liana didn't come alone. She brought Rey with her. Because after all, she couldn't just leave Rey at the restaurant. Moreover, she didn't know when David would return.

"Rey, you just sit here first, okay? I have to work. When my work is finished, I will take you home," Liana explained.

"Yes, Mom, Rey won't disturb you," Rey said, sitting on the office sofa in front of Liana's desk.

Liana went back to her desk.

"Hey, there's a little brother here," said Sinta, who happened to pass by and see Rey.

"Whose child are you? How did you get in here?" Sinta asked curiously.

"That..." Rey immediately pointed towards where Liana was sitting.

"Liana... Are you Liana's child?" she asked again.

"Yes... Mother Liana," Rey explained.

Bram, who accidentally passed by, overheard their conversation

"Liana, is that your child?" Bram asked, approaching Liana's desk.

"Oh, him? No, he's the child of one of my friends. His dad had an urgent job just now. So I couldn't possibly leave him alone, right?" Liana explained.

"But he calls you 'mother.' Is that normal?" he asked again, possessively.

"He does call me his mother, but it's okay, I don't mind at all. I have a lot of work, so that's all for now," Liana explained.

Hearing that, Bram immediately walked back to his desk, feeling a little annoyed. It wasn't about anything other than the feelings he had when he first met Liana yesterday. It was understandable because, truthfully, Liana was a girl whose beauty could not be denied her kind heart, gentleness, intelligence, everything was perfect in Bram's eyes.

The clock already showed 7 in the evening

But Liana still hadn't moved from her office chair.

"My head is spinning. Why is this work endless?" Liana said weakly while looking at the chair where Rey was.

"Even that child fell asleep waiting for me. Poor him." She approached Rey while covering his body with her jacket.

The clock showed 8 in the evening. There was the sound of footsteps approaching their room. It turned out to be David, who was quite worried about Rey's whereabouts.

Upon arriving, David saw Liana's somewhat disheveled condition and Rey already asleep on the sofa.

"Uncle, take Rey home now," David requested of Uncle Will.

"Yes, Sir," Will replied, slowly carrying Rey so he wouldn't wake up.

After they left, David approached Liana, who seemed to have fallen asleep at her desk.

"Liana, don't you want to go home?" David asked, but there was no response from Liana.

"I will finish it, Ma'am," Liana muttered with her eyes still closed.

David noticed Liana's forehead was sweaty, even though their room was very cold.

Without delay, David immediately placed his hand on Liana's forehead. And his suspicion was correct; Liana had a fever. And now she was unconscious.

"How can you force yourself to work in this unfit condition?" David said, immediately picking Liana up to take her to his house.

David carried Liana to his car. As he seated her in the car, Liana unexpectedly gripped David's collar tightly.

David froze in place, unsure what to do, because Liana was holding him very tightly.

"Hot... Hot," Liana said unconsciously.

Liana's free hand started unbuttoning her own shirt one by one, but David stopped her.

He didn't want Liana to do something she shouldn't. David quickly released Liana's hand from his collar and took out a sedative injection he carried in his medical kit, which was always ready.

"I hope you can be much calmer now. Just rest for a bit; the dosage is not high," David said while injecting it into Liana's right arm.

"Ahh... Painful," Liana winced in pain.

Soon, Liana began to calm down, and now David could take her to his house.

Upon arriving at the house, he immediately carried Liana. David took Liana to his room. He had originally planned to take Liana to her apartment, but he didn't know the password to Liana's apartment. So, he thought it would be pointless to go there.

As he was about to lay Liana down on the bed, Liana unexpectedly vomited on David's shirt.

"My goodness... She even threw up like this," David said after gently laying Liana on his bed.

"I'll take a shower first. You just rest here. After that, I'll examine you," David said while taking off his clothes.

After finishing his shower and putting on his sleepwear, David approached Liana to check her body temperature.

"Still feverish. I think I need to inject her with a fever-reducing medication. It will be quite difficult to get her to take oral medicine in this condition," David muttered.

David prepared his syringe and was about to inject it into Liana's arm. However, Liana seemed to feel something rubbing on her arm. She became slightly aware and immediately held back David's hand that was about to inject her.
