Upon arriving at the office, Liana was shocked to find her desk piled high with stacks of work files for the day.
"What is this? Why are there so many files on my desk?" she said, looking at her co-worker's desks.
"That is your work for today," revealed Chelsea, approaching Liana.
"My work?" Liana said, staring at the piles of files on her desk.
"Yes, you have to finish all of that. And submit the results on my desk first thing tomorrow morning. If anyone dares to help you, your probationary period in this office is over. And you won't need to come to the office again the next day. UNDERSTAND...?" Chelsea said firmly to Liana.
"Understood, Ma'am," Liana said resignedly, slightly bowing her head. Like it or not, she had to accept it, because her job was at stake.
Chelsea walked off to her room, watching the other employees, as if signaling that no one was allowed to help Liana.
Liana began working on the files one by one with great care.
The clock showed 12 noon, the time for employees to take a lunch break, but it seemed not for Liana, who was still busy with her work.
"Liana, let's go to the canteen for lunch," Bram invited.
"You go to the canteen first, Bram, I'll catch up after I finish this," Liana said, still focused on her work.
"Are you sure? Do you want me to help you, Liana?" Bram offered.
"Ah... no need, you'll get into trouble if you help me. Just go, I promise I'll eat in a bit," Liana explained.
"Alright then, I'll go first," Bram said, which Liana returned with a nod.
Meanwhile, outside the office
"Dad, why hasn't Mother Liana come out yet?" Rey asked from the car window.
"Dad doesn't know either, Rey," David said while focusing on his laptop.
It turned out they had been waiting for Liana in front of the office for about 30 minutes, which happened because David had called Liana that morning to invite her to lunch.
"Did Mom forget, Dad...?" Rey said.
"Seems like it..." David replied with a flat expression.
"Then go in and pick her up," Rey said, looking at David.
"Just wait here, if she doesn't come out. We'll leave her. Besides, Dad is already hungry," David stated firmly.
"Nooooo... (Rey's hand immediately closed David's work laptop) go pick up Mom inside or Rey won't go to school tomorrow," Rey explained.
"You..." David said, pointing at Rey's face, trying to hold back his anger.
"Okay, but Dad doesn't promise she'll want to come," David said, annoyed.
"Okayyy," Rey said confidently.
"I don't know why I always have to obey this child," David grumbled to himself, as he walked out of the car.
Entering the office
David could see Liana busy with her work, while the other employees were no longer in the room, as it was the office break hour.
"Liana..." David called out.
Liana turned towards the voice calling her.
"Doctor Sir..." Liana said, slightly startled by David's sudden appearance in her office.
"What are you doing here, Sir? How did you get in?" Liana said, a little confused.
"It doesn't matter how I got in. Now, come with me, Rey is waiting for you in the car to go for lunch. You promised earlier, didn't you?" David explained without wasting time.
"Oh yes, I forgot we were going to lunch together. I'm sorry, Sir. But I don't think I can come yet. I have so much work today. I have to finish it right away," Liana said with a regretful look for not being able to keep her promise.
"Work? Aren't you a new employee? Why have you been given this much work? And judging from these files, this should be Chelsea's work," David said, confused about the situation.
"How do you know Ms. Chelsea...?" Liana asked curiously.
"Just an old friend. Just bring your work with us. Lunch shouldn't be missed. And neither should your work, you can do it while eating later there," David said.
"Ah... is that allowed, Sir? If so, I'll bring it. That way, I can keep my promise, and my work can also be finished," Liana said, slightly happy.
David carried some of Liana's work files. And Liana herself was busy carrying her laptop.
Upon arriving at the car, Liana immediately met Rey, who was busy waiting for her arrival
"Moomm..." Rey expressed happily when Liana got into the car.
"I'm sorry, Rey, I forgot we were going to have lunch together today," Liana said.
"It's okay, Mom, the important thing is that we can go have lunch together now," Rey explained with joy.
"Uncle Will, let's go," David instructed his private driver.
During the trip, Liana took the opportunity to open her laptop and do some work there
Seeing that, David and Rey looked at each other, so no one dared to speak to one another.
"Liana, give me some of your work, let me do it," David said, offering to help and simultaneously breaking the silence in the car.
"Do you understand it, Sir?" Liana asked.
"Yes," David said. Of course, he understood, since he was the one who had been managing that company all this time.
Liana happily accepted the offer, hiding her sweet smile.
"Mom is very pretty when she smiles," Rey expressed.
David, seeing that smile, also felt very happy.
"Don't trouble yourself, as an employee you have the right to protest if you feel this is not your job," David advised Liana.
"How can I protest? I hear the CEO of the office is a very perfectionist person. Even a small mistake can lead to immediate dismissal. I just got this job yesterday. I can't let it go just like that," Liana explained.
Hearing that, David felt quite sorry for Liana, because he didn't know what she had been through all this time.
Upon arriving at the restaurant
They sat together at the table David had reserved.
"What would you like to order, Mom?" Rey asked.
David handed the menu to Liana.
"Oh my gosh, the price is so expensive, all my money will be gone if I buy food here," she thought to herself worriedly.
"Sir, I think I'm not hungry right now. You two eat, okay? I still have to finish this work," Liana explained.
A moment later, a stomach rumbling sound was heard; it turned out to be Liana's stomach. She was actually very hungry but didn't want to have to spend that much money on food.
"Are you sure? I told you to order food, not pay for food. Just choose what you like. I will pay for it," David said, looking at Liana.
"Really, Sir? Okay then," Liana said, feeling very happy.
