Chapter 14 - Unexpected Incident

"Of course it's different, how could it be the same. Rey must be waiting for you to come back, sir," said Liana.

"How do you know that kid is waiting for me?" David retorted.

"Just go home, sir, you need to rest now," Liana urged.

"Yes... yes. I am going home already," said David, who actually did intend to go home after his last surgery.

"Come on, I'll take you," David said, pulling Liana's hand.

"Uh... no need, sir. I can go home by myself," Liana answered, her hand already being pulled by David.

"I don't accept no for an answer," David interrupted.

Upon reaching the car parking lot

"Get in... quick," David said while opening his car door.

"May I sit in the back, sir?" Liana pleaded.

"Enough... Stop calling me 'sir,' I am not your father," David said, already fed up with the title.

Of course, he was fed up; he was still young, but Liana kept calling him 'sir.'

"Just call me David from now on, understand?" David stated firmly.

"But 'sir' is for 'doctor,' it doesn't mean you're my father, right?" Liana jabbered.

"What did you say...?" David cut in.

"Nothing, nothing at all. I'll get in now, okay?" Liana answered, afraid of David.

David immediately followed Liana into the car and drove towards Liana's apartment.

On the way

"The rain is so heavy," Liana said, looking out the car window.

"You knew it was going to rain heavily, so why were you wandering around outside?" David retorted, focusing on driving.

"Why did I go out, you ask? Look at this, my hand hurts from hot soup spilling on it," Liana explained, immediately showing her hand.

"Yes, I know, but you could have just called me directly. You didn't have to come to the hospital," David said.

"Call you directly...? Who am I to you, sir? Not family, we just became friends, why would you willingly come to my place?" Liana explained.

"Regardless of all that, I am a doctor. For humanitarian issues, I will definitely come," David said nervously.

"Is that so? But looking at your face, it seems like there's no trace of humanitarian feeling at all," Liana teased, pointing at David's face.

"What did you say? How dare you talk like that?" David said, annoyed.

"I'm just joking, sir, don't take it to heart," Liana replied, chuckling softly at David's slightly reddened face.

Arriving at Liana's apartment

"Thank you, sir, for going to the trouble of taking me all the way inside," Liana said.

"No need to be so grateful, I just want to make sure you get home safely. I'm afraid if you get kidnapped, Rey will cry looking for you," David explained with his cold face, as if he didn't care.

"Rey will cry, or you will cry if I suddenly disappear?" Liana teased, making David's face flush.

"What are you talking about...?" David interrupted, trying to turn his face away.

"Are you flustered, sir? Right?" Liana teased, trying to look at David's red face.

"Liana, what are you doing?" David said.

"Come on, let me see your face," Liana insisted.

"Sir, your nose is bleeding again," Liana added worriedly.

David tried to cover it with his hand, but Liana pulled it away.

"Come, follow me inside first," she said, pulling David's hand into her apartment.

"I'm fine, Liana, this happens all the time," David explained, but Liana ignored him.

Liana quickly rolled up some tissue for David's nose. "Be quiet or I'll kiss you," Liana said, which instantly silenced David, who was sitting on her apartment sofa.

"You can't always ignore this. Sometimes the body gives a sign that it's tired and needs rest, but the person living in it just acts indifferent," Liana said, inserting the rolled tissue into David's nose.

Their faces were very close. David, who had been staring at Liana all this time, could only freeze in front of her. Liana's lips kept chattering, but her hands were busy with her task.

"What is it...?" Liana asked, confused by David.

"I shouldn't be here, I'd better leave," David said, immediately wanting to stand up.

"Wait, just rest here. You must be very tired, aren't you? Besides, the rain outside is still heavy, sir," Liana explained, trying to persuade him.

"Rest here? Are you serious? We can't be like this all night," David said anxiously.

"Why, do you think I have a crush on you, sir? If anything, I'm the one who should be worried. I'm the woman," Liana blurted out.

"No, that's not what I meant," David interjected.

"Just rest, what's so hard about it?" she said, pushing David until he fell onto the sofa.

Liana gave David a blanket.

"Use it, sir. I'm going back to my room now," Liana said, immediately entering her room.

David, seeing Liana, could only resign himself; he knew this girl was quite stubborn, like Rey. Glancing briefly around Liana's apartment, David could immediately see the difference compared to Uncle Will's apartment next door.

"Liana is a very simple girl. I don't think there's anything wrong with Rey being close to her," David thought, slowly drifting off to sleep.

The next morning

Liana began to wake up from her sleep as the sunlight hit her face.

"Yawn... So sleepy, but I have to go to work again this morning," Liana complained.

Liana got out of bed and went straight to her kitchen for water.

"Oh dear, I forgot the doctor stayed here last night. But it looks like he's still sleeping," she said, slowly approaching David.

"Wow... Looking closely, the doctor's face is actually handsome," Liana thought to herself.

Unconsciously, Liana's hand slowly began to touch David's sharp nose, and gradually her finger also approached David's lips.

"A man this perfect, it's impossible he doesn't have a girlfriend yet," Liana murmured.

David suddenly woke up and quickly caught Liana's hand.

"Liana," David said, coming to his senses.

"You're awake, sir? I'm sorry. You were startled like this. I didn't mean anything by it. It's just... I don't know what's wrong with my hand," Liana said, trying to explain so David wouldn't misunderstand.

"What are you doing? Scaring me first thing in the morning," David said.

"Sorry, sir, I... I need to take a shower first," Liana said, quickly escaping to the bathroom.

Being woken up suddenly made David feel a little dizzy, so he decided to sleep for just a little longer.

In the bathroom, Liana kept thinking about the foolishness she had just committed

"Liana, you're losing your mind, wake up a little," Liana muttered.

After finishing her shower

Just as she stepped out of the bathroom door, a knock on the door was suddenly heard from outside.

"I don't think I ordered anything. Who would come this early in the morning? I'm still in a towel, should I open the door like this?" Liana said, who was indeed only wrapped in a towel.

Suddenly, a voice that was not unfamiliar to Liana was heard

"Dear, why are you taking so long to open the door? It's your mother," the woman said from outside.

"Oh, Mom, I thought it was someone else. Oh my God... Mom... Is... Coming... Now..." Liana exclaimed, panicking as she just remembered David was still in her apartment.

"This is bad. Sir, come on, wake up first," Liana said, trying to wake David who had fallen asleep again.

"What is it now?" David interrupted.

"My mother is here, sir," Liana explained.

Because her mother had been waiting outside for a long time, Liana decided to grab the collar of David's shirt and pull him into her room.

"Liana, what are you doing?" David said, who was actually calm when he knew Liana's mother was coming and was planning to greet her.

"Stay quiet in the room first, sir, don't come out until I say so," Liana said, covering David's mouth.

David was startled by Liana's action. The girl had just finished showering, her hair was wet and loose, and her body was still wrapped in a white towel. This made David's heart beat so fast.

"Wait here, okay? Just for a moment," Liana said, immediately leaving the room and David behind.

Liana went out and quickly opened the door for her mother.

"Mom, you came. That's unusual," Liana said.

"Why did it take you so long to open the door, dear? I'm tired of waiting for you," Liana's mother said.

"Liana was taking a shower, Mom," Liana said.

"Yes, I can see. You haven't even put on clothes yet," Liana's mother said.

"Oh, yes, Liana forgot, Mom," she realized.

"Go put on your clothes in your room," Liana's mother requested.

Liana remembered that David was still in the room. How could she put on her clothes when there was a man in her room?

"Hey, why are you daydreaming, dear?" Liana's mother said, seeing her daughter standing frozen.

"Yes, Mom, I'll change clothes later," Liana replied.

"Why later? Don't you want to go to work? You'll be late," Liana's mother said.

"That's true," Liana thought to herself. Liana immediately decided to go to her room because she didn't want her mother to be suspicious of her.

And indeed, David was still there, sitting on the edge of Liana's bed.

"What is it now...?" David asked.

"I need to get my clothes; I forgot to bring them earlier," Liana replied, slowly walking towards her wardrobe.

As she was about to leave, David blocked Liana with his arm.

"Wait," David interrupted.

"Why did you tell me to hide? I am never afraid or reluctant to meet your mother," David added.

"Oh, how can I explain it to you, sir? My mother will definitely misunderstand if she sees you in my apartment this early in the morning," Liana explained to David.

"Misunderstand, what do you mean? You were the one who told me to stay the night, why are you panicking now?" David said.

"Sir, I honestly didn't expect my mother to visit this morning. I'm so sorry again," Liana said, pleading with David to stay quiet.

Inadvertently, the towel Liana was wearing slipped off her body. This instantly made David freeze, staring at Liana's face.

Liana quickly turned her back to the wall, trying to protect her body.

David immediately averted his gaze to the ceiling of Liana's room. He quickly backed away to the bed to grab his jacket there.

David swiftly put it over Liana's shoulder without looking at her. Afterward, Liana immediately left the room with her clothes. Her face was quite red from embarrassment.

"David, what did you just see?" David said, frustrated, running his hands through his hair.
