In her apartment, Liana was busy in the kitchen preparing her dinner. The sky was quite dark today, and a long rain was falling that night. Liana was busy setting up a projector to watch a movie and her ready-to-eat bowl of hot instant noodles.
She had only eaten a few bites when a loud, rumbling clap of thunder suddenly sounded near her apartment.
This startled Liana, causing the hot instant noodle soup to accidentally spill onto her hand.
"Ouch... It's hot. What should I do?" Liana exclaimed, shaking her hand rapidly.
She immediately ran to the sink to pour cold water over her hand.
"Liana, you are so clumsy," she grumbled to herself.
"It still feels quite hot, I think I should go to the hospital, before it gets worse," she said with a hint of annoyance.
"And it's pouring rain, too. I have to order an online taxi now," Liana muttered as she closed her apartment door.
"Miss Liana, are you going out?" said Uncle Will, who had just arrived.
"Yes, Uncle. Have you just returned from work?" Liana asked kindly.
"Yes, Miss. As it happens, I was just about to go into my house. Where are you off to, Miss Liana?" Uncle Will asked.
"Well, Uncle, Liana accidentally spilled hot noodle soup on her hand. I'm planning to go to the hospital to have it checked," Liana said, showing her left hand.
"In that case, let me take you, Miss. It's also raining outside, isn't it?" Will offered, feeling sorry for Liana.
"No need, Uncle. Liana can go by herself," Liana said with a faint smile.
"It's no trouble, Miss. Let me take you to see Mr. David at the hospital," Uncle Will insisted.
"Doctor... at the hospital. Is he still working this late at night, Uncle? I thought doctors had a shift system," Liana asked curiously.
"He should, Miss, but just after dropping you off, Mr. David went straight back to the hospital. Mr. David has been a workaholic for a long time, Miss. I don't understand, it's like his body isn't human but a robot ready to work non-stop," Uncle Will explained.
"In that case, I'll be going now, Uncle. My hand hurts," Liana said, leaving right away.
"Miss, let me take you," Will shouted.
"No need, Uncle, the taxi has arrived," Liana replied from a distance.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Liana immediately walked towards the reception desk to ask where Doctor David's room was.
"Excuse me, miss, I'd like to see Doctor David. Could you tell me where his room is?" Liana asked.
"Doctor David is currently performing surgery, Miss. If you have anything you'd like to say, just tell me, and I will relay it after he finishes," the receptionist nurse explained.
"It's alright, I'll just wait for him. Thank you," Liana said briefly.
Liana waited for David outside the operating room.
"I thought he would go straight home after dropping me off, but it turns out he's back at the hospital," Liana thought with some worry, especially remembering how tired David had looked during the journey earlier.
Two hours later, the operating room door suddenly opened, and Liana saw David stepping out, holding his nose with his hand.
"Doctor..." Liana looked at David, who was still wearing the distinctive green scrubs of a surgeon who had just finished a procedure.
"Liana, you're here," David said, wondering why Liana was there.
David walked a little unsteadily towards the restroom near the operating room. Liana saw this and immediately followed him.
"Sir, what's wrong? What happened?" Liana asked.
Liana was quite shocked when David took his hand away from his nose; blood slowly dripped from David's nose.
"Sir... (She said in surprise) you have a nosebleed," Liana exclaimed.
A lot of blood was coming out, and David kept wiping it away with running water from the sink.
"It won't stop if you keep doing this," Liana quickly grabbed a tissue, rolled it up, and plugged it into David's nose.
"That way, the blood won't come out anymore," Liana stated.
"Do you think I'm dead that you're stuffing two rolls of tissue into my nose at once?" David complained, not understanding Liana's actions.
"A dead person is far less troublesome than you, Sir. You're having a nosebleed and still grumbling," Liana retorted while washing her hands.
"What's wrong with your hand?" David asked, noticing the red mark on the back of Liana's hand.
"Spilled hot noodle soup on it," Liana answered casually.
"What... how could that happen? Why didn't you say anything earlier? Come with me now," David said, pulling Liana's hand to follow him.
David took Liana to his office. He immediately took out an ointment to treat Liana's burn.
With care, he slowly applied the ointment so that Liana wouldn't feel pain.
"Even with a nosebleed, Doctor, you can still take care of a patient like me. It seems you're used to pushing yourself to work even when your body is tired, aren't you?" Liana challenged, which made David look at her.
"What do you mean? This is my job, I have to do it," David explained.
"It's true that someone who's in love with their job can't be told anything, just like love, because love is blind. But the problem is that what you love isn't a person, it's work. Are you a normal man or not, Doctor?" Liana blurted out, causing David to move closer to her.
"What did you say? I'm not a normal man. Do you want me to show you what kind of man I am now?" David said, slowly bringing his face closer to Liana's small face.
"What do you want, Sir? Please move back a little," Liana said, her heart starting to race wildly.
"Why? Didn't you ask yourself earlier? Am I a normal man or not?" David teased, raising one eyebrow.
David was about to capture Liana's small lips, but Liana was suddenly startled by a loud clap of thunder that sounded out of nowhere.
Liana instinctively hugged David. Now it was David's heart that nearly stopped because, for the first time, a woman other than his mother had dared to hug him.
The thunder came again for the second time, and Liana tightened her embrace. David felt this and reciprocated by gently stroking Liana's back to calm her.
"Relax, I'm here," David said.
Liana, hearing David's voice, immediately released her hug. "I... I'm sorry," she said briefly.
"Why apologize? Did you do something wrong?" David said, gently stroking Liana's head.
"I've treated your injury. Go home and rest immediately. How are you getting home? It's still raining outside," David asked.
"Online taxi," Liana replied.
"Then go home now. I'll drop off the ointment at your place tomorrow," David requested.
"What about you, Doctor? You're not going home yet," Liana asked worriedly, watching David remove the tissue plugs.
"This hospital has become my second home. Whether I go home or not makes absolutely no difference," David explained.
