'BzZzZzzz!'
Ash bolted upward, throwing his hands at the fly that kept interrupting his sleep.
"Please don't do that," he said in a tired voice, as his body fell downward into the embrace of the cushions.
Xavier laughed lightly as he withdrew his hand, and the dark black fly that was flying around Ash's figure turned into drawn dust.
"It's breakfast," he said, moving to the large window in the middle, then opening its curtains, causing Ash to wake from his sleep.
Ash straightened up, instinctively moving toward the bathroom with little to no questions.
It took about an hour for him to finish up. He came out of the shower with a robe around his waist and a shirtless torso.
Xavier couldn't help but stare as he inwardly admired Ash's nearly perfect physique.
"Stop staring so much," Ash said, but Xavier simply didn't listen, an action he would forever regret.
Because suddenly, the robe that was covering Ash's privates completely fell off, revealing his exposed, toned buttocks.
Xavier's eyes squinted as he clicked his tongue, clearly annoyed by what he had seen.
He got up without even bothering to voice a complaint, grabbed his bag then headed toward the door.
"Me, Ajax, and some other guys are going out to watch a movie today." He turned to look back, only to be met by Ash, who had now put on a pair of boxers. "It's the new Doctor Strange movie, you wanna come?"
Ash almost whined like a baby; he was feeling the pain of truly missing out.
"Damn, I wish," he said, his voice hinting at lurking pain. "But I'm supposed to meet a therapist." He stretched the back of his head. "I'm obliged to do it… But if you want, I could skip…"
"No, it's fine," Xavier interrupted him. "Tomorrow is the festival anyway, so we might not go." He walked to the door, stepping out and pausing mid-close. "I'll record the movie if we decide to go." He gave Ash a nod, which in turn caused Ash to nod back.
THUD!
The door quickly shut, perhaps reminding Ash that he really was going to be late.
—--------------------------------
The atmosphere was buzzing with the sound of hormones. Students moving from left to right. Some flew through the air, while others watched in envy, perhaps wishing for a different 'difference.'
It was strange how Ash noticed how some felt envious of the more 'different.' Their looks of disgust as a vampire outcast drank a bottle of human blood, but then the envy and pure disdain when he launched through the halls with inhuman speed; it was utterly hypocritical.
The whispers they uttered when one would pass. The secrets of pure jealousy unknowingly slipping from their lips.
He heard all of it, every single ounce.
Super hearing, if some were to call it. Maybe that was why he never truly had many friends.
Cain and Brian weren't his actual friends. They were just two outcast idiots he was unconventionally deemed to be stuck with.
He could always perfectly hear their lies; he could sense their lurking thoughts.
They were fumed by envy, and he knew it.
One time, a long time ago, when Ash was drifting to sleep, he discovered an ability he usually deemed too inconsistent.
'Maybe I should cut his throat. I wanna see if he actually heals from it,' he once heard Patrick think—the same Patrick who was also a prisoner in the lab Ash had been stuck in.
And ever since that very day, Ash never trusted anyone.
He called it mind link, a connection that only worked if he connected with someone to a certain extent.
At first, he never knew what it was until he used it on a guard named Brian.
After some time, Ash could hear his thoughts; but only those that were directed in a way that could be deemed threatening. So, as long as the thought was foul, and he knew you to a certain extent, Ash would hear what you were thinking.
…
Ash arrived at Principal Weems' office, eyes still staring at the door, but he yielded when he got inches closer.
Because standing there, about 20 feet away, were the eyes of a beautiful girl.
She had colorful rainbow hair, and her eyes were locked directly with his.
Then she instantly smiled, raising her hand and quickly giving a wave.
This unknowingly brought an instant smile to Ash's face, as he instinctively waved back.
A spark shone in his eyes as he thought of approaching her. Yet hesitation held back his feet when he noticed her own feet had begun to move, and her figure was the one approaching.
His eyes widened, his heart almost skipping a beat.
But it all came to a halt when the office door unexpectedly opened.
Ash turned his head, clearly puzzled by the spectacle.
And seated at her desk, showing her neatly crossed long legs through the open space of the table, was Principal Weems, sitting there as though she was fully aware of the damage she had just committed.
She smiled when she saw Ash's figure. But Ash forced a fake smile back.
He then turned his eyes to the now-approaching Enid, who was only drawing closer.
He sighed, then slowly walked in.
This caused her to pause in confusion when she saw him retreat so obviously. She bit her lower lip, confusion overflowing in her thoughts.
THUD!
And the door quickly shut behind him, completely controlled by nothing.
"Witchcraft," Principal Weems said, watching as he neared the opposite seat. "It's actually one of Miss Frump's famous spells." She giggled softly, not noticing his fake, convincing smile. "That's what she was commonly famous for before the…" she hesitated, "mortuaries and… corpses."
Ash just stared at her, his smile still maintained, completely unaffected by any of her words.
She smiled for a moment too long, then bent to the side, pulling out a case for the new iPhone, then sliding it nearer to his figure.
He smiled when he saw it, perhaps for the first time since they met, his lips curled in something almost genuine, even if she didn't notice.
He opened the box, fully expecting a brand new device. And just as one would expect, Principal Weems did not disappoint. Yet Ash's expression still frowned when his eyes met the screen.
It was black, a color Ash had outgrown.
He closed his eyes in prayer, half hoping that she would deny it.
"Is this from Grandma Frump?" he asked, gut still hopeful.
And she immediately laughed when she heard him speak, a rich person's laugh.
"What gave it off?" she admitted with a question, her smile still maintained. "Was it the black?"
She couldn't help but continue to giggle when she noted his deepening frown.
"I didn't have a choice," she said, brushing his expression off. "She's legally your guardian, and she's also rich." She leaned deeper into her seat, her words sounding prideful.
"I couldn't just buy you a phone without asking her if she allowed it," she continued, shaking her head in continuous giggles.
"She said she would allow it only if it remained all black. She thinks color is contagious." She laughed after her words, holding her gut after each passing giggle. "You should really thank me for keeping your uniform in the normal school color." She continued, finally stopping and taking out some clothes covered in plastic from her closed, large cabinet.
She tossed them to him, and Ash almost smiled as he noticed the purple-light blue color the clothes seemed to reflect.
She smiled, noting his almost pleased reaction.
He turned to her, then she blinked, perhaps making a vow that this was their first true connection.
