~~~ [START]
Ash's eyes refused to look away, their orbs staring directly toward Wednesday as she took a slice of burnt, toasted bread, spreading on what looked to be black jam, and eating.
"She's engaged," Xavier, noticing Ash still staring at her, said, "So, stop staring."
Ash's eyes turned to the desk, their orbs still widened in surprise.
He then turned to his bag, grabbed it, and fixed his posture, attempting to leave.
"Yo man, you gotta stop talking to Enid." Ajax suddenly walked in from behind, holding Ash on the shoulder, preventing his leave.
"He's talking to Enid?" Xavier questioned, eyes following as Ajax moved, taking a seat on one of the empty chairs.
Ash frowned, clearly confused.
"Wait… who's Enid?" he asked, causing both Ajax and Xavier to stop him dead in his tracks with their stares.
"The girl who was giving you a tour of the entire school," Ajax replied, sighing in anguish.
"Oh," Ash spat, laughing nervously.
"Ajax likes her, man," Xavier said, placing his art book and materials onto the middle strings of his bag. "He's been planning on asking her out for a while."
Then Ash turned to his side, looking at Ajax, who now had a bored, near-sad expression.
"Bro… trust me," Ash raised his arms, widening his hands in surrender. "I don't even like your girl," he said, nodding and slowly glancing at Xavier. "Look, I didn't even remember her name."
{LATER THAT DAY}
The wheels of a red Volkswagen Beetle halted in the space of a white apartment complex.
"Here we are," a woman wearing large, glossy glasses said, leaning toward Ash's side and opening the door. "I'll pick you up in two hours," she said, watching as he exited.
THUD!
Ash shut the door without question, eyes turning to a white-painted building that stood before him.
He sighed, taking out a paper from inside his blazer pocket, opening it, and staring at its contents.
"The second floor," he whispered, crushing the paper in his palm before throwing it in the nearby trash can.
His eyes turned to the building as he immediately walked in.
His eyes couldn't help but glance at the passing of beautiful women, the only problem being that he was wearing his uniform, because if not, he would certainly approach.
KNOCK!
His closed palms didn't have to knock forever, because in less than three seconds, the door swung open.
"You must be Asha," the woman said, speaking in an obviously practiced voice. "Please come in." She didn't even wait for his reply; she only moved to the side, raising her arm while pointing inside, directing him to enter.
Ash nodded, stepping in without hesitation.
"Beautiful," he couldn't stop himself from speaking. Her house was too clean, and if he were to guess, it looked oddly brand new.
"Yeah, but I don't live here," she answered, as if reading his expression. "I mostly use this apartment as an office."
She walked toward a couch as he also followed, sitting down and watching as she did the same on the one that stood in parallel.
Ash got comfortable, leaning backward and embracing its comfort to the full extent.
She giggled softly, low enough for her actions to be ignored.
Then the silence lingered, but her words cut through it like a blade.
"Okay, Asha," she paused, "is that what I should call you, or should I just say Ash?"
"Ash is fine," he instantly said, giving a smile with his words. "That's what everyone calls me."
"Okay, Ash, now tell me," she leaned back in her seat, crossing her legs, then placing the file she was holding on her lap. "How is school?"
Ash fixed his body, adjusting himself on the seat; it was exactly as he had expected.
"Pretty cool." Ash didn't hesitate as his eyes started staring too much, drifting to her figure and analyzing her seated self. "You know, just classes and books, nothing I didn't expect."
The silence returned, this time cutting deeper than a knife.
And she sat there, watching him as the seconds ticked.
Ash fixed his collar, feeling his shirt slightly tighten. Then he frowned, watching her as she kept saying nothing.
"Does it bother you?" she said, lips softly smiling but clearly holding something back. "The silence."
Ash almost laughed in pretense, smiling and only releasing faint giggles.
"Bother me? Lol," he said, looking around, eyes almost drifting toward the clock, which was suspended on the kitchen wall. "Na..." He moved his tongue, brushing it against his teeth.
"How does it make you feel?" Her words suddenly continued as though oblivious to his reply.
Ash inwardly sighed, raising his brows as she asked the question.
"Not really," he tried to force a smile, unaware that his act was slowly breaking. He tapped his feet on the floor, his hand softly tapping its fingers on the couch he sat on.
But her eyes quietly drifted, noticing all of it.
"Is it the same as Kamera?" she asked, causing Ash's eyes to widen. His mouth slightly frowned, and his expression now visibly turned serious. It wasn't a sad or surprised expression, just one that was plain and maybe unresponsive. "Because, I mean… You attended classes there, didn't you? Did it also have normal subjects?"
