Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

'...Well. This is embarrassing.'

'BWAHAHAHAHA! THIS IS...THIS IS...I HAVE NO WORDS!!'

'HAHAHA! FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MILLIONS OF YEARS! I SAW YOU BROUGHT DOWN BY SOMETHING!!'

'Not funny, you two.'

I grumbled while slithering across the surface of Mars. Its red sands clinging to my scales, which have not touched solid rock in centuries.

Given how awkward it felt to slither on land once again, after so long of flying without a care, I am reminded of the time when I was just another Superfauna in the Hollow Earth's dangerous lands.

'I forgot that Mars does not have a global magnetosphere like Earth, which allows me to fly. This world's core has long since gone dormant, unable to produce its own protective magnetic field. If you were here, Groudon, it would be child's play for you to melt the core back into liquid form, provided it's in solid form, or 'churn' it into motion if it is still in liquid but stratified form.'

'Even if I did do that, I don't think it is worth the effort. I was excited to see a world that all the little ones claimed was Earth's equal in life-sustaining potential, but I am thoroughly disappointed with what I am seeing so far.'

He had a point.

Based on what little I remember of the scientific principles from my old life, and what I managed to learn from the dial-up connections and other sources, even if we three were to perform collosal terraforming projects, such as Groudon heating up the core and churning it, producing a magnetosphere, while also heating up all the water trapped in the mantle and reignite tectonic plate activity.

On the other hand, I could grab a few water-rich asteroids and comets and have them crash into Mars, filling it with enough water vapor and atmospheric gases for my vibration ability to work here.

Finally, Kyogre could harness all that water in the atmosphere and condense it into oceans.

By the end, Mars would have oceans, an active magnetic shield, and a good enough atmosphere to kickstart proper life seeding.

However, the problem here is that this is all just a theory. I simply do not have enough information about the planet and its ins and outs to say anything with guarantee, unlike on Earth, where I literally know everything there is to know about the planet, thanks to how long I've lived there and how many years I've spent studying everything.

Still in my Mega form because I don't trust this damned place just yet to go back to normal, I kept moving across the land towards the nearest pocket of Crustal Magnetic Anomaly. A localized magnetic field 'frozen' into the crust. A remnant of the global magnetic field that the planet once had.

Using that magnetic field, I can propel myself back into space and head back to Earth, moving away from this death trap of a planet that I came to on impulse.

'I really regret coming here. I haven't felt this helpless in thousands of years.'

'Serves you right for worrying us like that when you took off without warning, brother.'

'Will you two give me any ideas instead of making fun of me? And what are you two doing anyway? Why do I feel like you are enjoying something really good without me there?'

'Its beause we are enjoying something good, aside from your suffering that is.'

Groudon's smug voice really made me want to give him a piece of my mind.

....You know what? When I get back, he is getting a kinetic strike from the orbit.

'We are currently at the shores of Hoenn, where the little ones are giving us a lot of good stuff to eat and drink. Did you know that our remnant radiation from all those centuries ago has mutated the local plant life? Their trees produce a strange fruit that is so rich in protein that it can substitute for meat. It is also naturally sweet and acidic at the same time, according to the little ones.'

I hummed in response as I heard those words, knowing exactly what he was talking about.

As a result of our radiation, Hoenn gave birth to a plant species that is similar to oversized blueberries with a solid core and sweet flesh full of protein. The people of Hoenn call it the Meat Berry, a very unoriginal name, but it works.

In fact, the fruit is so high in demand that Hoenn makes billions every year with the export of the fruit to the world, given that this fruit does not grow anywhere else, even if placed under the most optimal conditions.

In some ways, it is similar to the authentic Wasabi plant. A highly demanding flora that cannot grow anywhere else but its homeland.

From what I heard, the people of Hoenn have been exporting this fruit for many centuries, and sometimes, its existence has also led to many wars with those who wanted it and the rest of Hoenn's resource-rich and fertile land for themselves.

Hell, I heard that Hoenn was the primary target for the majority of the world's powers back in WW2, including its own allies, the United States of America, who tried to install saboteurs and spies to incite a civil war and then install a puppet government in Hoenn.

However, when an entire people believe in a single religion and are united in their social beliefs with a government that actually cares for its people, not to mention the literal psychics in said government body, such tactics become a waste of resources very quickly.

Something that the USA and the Soviets found out firsthand when all their spies were publicly tried, with the trial recorded along with all the evidence and placed in front of literally every nation on the planet, showing what they did to the rest of the world.

It is a bit of a shame that this plant does not grow anywhere else, because recently, Ukraine reached out to Hoenn to have them help the country plant a field of the Meat Berries in Pripyat, since the plants have a unique property of absorbing radiation.

Thankfully, Ukraine will not need those plants soon enough, because I've directed a certain someone to help clean out said radiation without capturing human attention.

'So, you guys are eating that plant? You do know that you will drive them to starvation and tank their economy if you eat all their fruits like that, right?'

'Hey! We are not some fools who will drive our little ones into desperation. We are only accepting a little bit of the offerings, barely the size of those little trucks of theirs.'

'He speaks the truth, brother. I've been keeping an eye on him to make sure his gluttony does not go too far.'

'Says the overgrown whale that nearly devoured an entire patch of their offshore clam and fish farms.'

'HEY! YOU PROMISED YOU WOULD NOT TELL HIM!!'

These two are really something else.

...Hold on. What was that?

I felt a sudden pulse of strange energy behind me.

At first, I did not pay it any attention and kept moving forward. However, as I kept moving, I felt the source of energy follow my every move.

Every time I stopped, the energy signature would stop as well. And every time I moved, it moved as well. It even followed my exact trail when I moved in circles or in strange patterns to test it.

Whatever this thing is, it was sentient and positively tiny, given the bioelectric field I am picking up.

I sent this feeling through our link to my brothers.

'Do you guys recognize this energy?'

'No. But it does feel similar to those crystals in Groudon's lair.'

'Like hell they are! My crystals taste really good and feel far more chaotic compared to whatever this is!'

I ignored the usual bickering and kept slithering forward, feigning ignorance of whatever was following me.

Then, I saw my chance.

A ravine, big enough to hide my body even in my Mega form, and it has a convenient place for me to quickly disappear and set up an ambush.

I quickly slithered into the ravine and hid myself by coiling around a wall, deactivating my Mega form.

Right now, subtlety matters more than safety.

As my body shrank back to my regular form, I kept my body as still as possible and waited, feeling the energy signature speed up after me, probably anxious not to lose sight of me.

Ancient predatory instincts that I have not used in millions of years came to the forefront as I coiled myself as tightly as possible, like a spring, ready to lunge at this hidden threat.

However, all my preparations came to an abrupt halt when I saw what exactly was following me.

A small, round creature with stubby arms and legs, with a clear look of anxiousness in its cute brown eyes.

It looked around with panic as my trail in the dirt came to an abrupt end, courtesy of my attempts at laying down the ambush, and started bouncing around while whining in an adorable voice.

No matter how I look at it, this is definitely Cleffa from Pokémon.

But what the hell is it doing out here on Mars? And why do I feel like things are going to get more complicated from here?

'Ok. That is just adorable.'

'Agreed. I want one.'

'Quite, you two. I am thinking.....Kyogre, can you contact Damina from your tribe and Kaito from my tribe?'

'Yeah. But why?'

I smiled deviously as my 900-foot body lunged at the tiny being that was barely the size of a human child.

The little blob of pink flesh did not even have the time to squawk as my tail quickly and gently wrapped around it, making sure it did not escape from me.

'I think I have an idea for a new Pokémon that he should add to the upcoming Generation II that their company, Nintendo, is working on.'
