Chapter 26 - Chapter 26

UN Security Council Vault, Classified Location.

In the secret vault designed for highly sensitive discussions and meant for diplomatic relations most of the time, the current atmosphere was anything but diplomatic.

The source of this uncomfortable atmosphere was the data being shown on the large projector in the room, along with long-range telescope recordings.

The data showed how the Mars Climate Orbiter mission went off without a hitch and headed straight for Mars as predicted, despite a problem they found in the programming where the building of the space craft system builder, Lockheed Martin, used the US Customary Units measuring system while NASA used the Metric system.

Normally, such a critical error should have been a cause for alarm, but that became a secondary concern after what they had seen through their observation sites and long-range telescopes.

A secret that was kept from the world, with only a select few people at the top of the food chain across the world being privy to it until now.

Peter Burleigh, the Ambassador of the United States of America, massaged his temples to relieve the headache he was starting to feel as this meeting went on.

"Explain to me once again, and more clearly, the impact this is going to have on everyone from this point on?"

Richard Cook, the representative from Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and Dr. John B. McNamee, the project manager for the Mars Climate Orbiter mission, looked at each other and started speaking, once again briefing the Security Council members despite having repeated it multiple times at this point.

Truthfully, the two men wanted to be anywhere but this powderkeg ready to blow, but they had no choice but to stay.

Richard cleared his throat and restarted the projector, and showed the images and videos.

"During the timeframe where the Orbiter left the Earth's atmosphere, our instruments aboard the orbiter, our satellites, and even groundside picked up unnatural magnetic field pulses in the Exosphere. By the time we directed the long-range telescopes towards the source, we were already too late. However, just under three weeks later, we observed the same disturbance, and this time, we were just in time to catch the culprit in the act."

The final slide showed the blurry, grainy image of an emerald serpentine form arriving above the Earth.

"Our people tracked its movement patterns and calculated that it landed in Hoenn."

"As for the information about what it is and what it is capable of? That is completely unknown at this point."

Peter sighed and turned to the representatives from Hoenn.

"And that is why we called you here. We want answers on what kind of weapon you guys developed in secret and why we were not informed of it?"

Elder Kaito raised an eyebrow at those words.

"Last time I checked, Ambassador, there is no rule that says we must declare any of our technology to you or the rest of the world. Or did we miss any meeting where the rest of you decided to pass a new law without telling us? The sixth permanent member of this council?"

That silenced Peter. However, he was not the only one worried about the 'weapon'.

The ambassador of Japan, Yukio Sato, who was invited due to the geological proximity and implications with the 'culprit' nation, along with Canada and Brazil, could not help but speak up.

"Despite there being no rule, maybe it would give us a peace of mind to know what kind of weapon it is that you people developed?"

Kaito gave a lazy gaze at the old man who had seen and done a lot during his career as part of the Japanese imperial forces, and now, the newly formed defence force.

"Don't worry, Ambassador Sato. If our 'weapon' had any intention of turning on you for the atrocities you and your fellows committed in the last century, Japan would have ceased to exist a long time ago."

Kaito's gaze sharpened with a cold light that sent chills down the Japanese ambassador's spine.

"Afterall, we did let go of your army after we liberated Nanjing back then. Well, what was left of your army anyway. Despite knowing that you all would try to do the same to Hoenn, which you certainly tried to do later on."

Then, his gaze turned to the Chinese Ambassador, then to the Canadian, the Brazilian, and even to Peter.

"And let's not pretend that any of you all are saints either. We all know what you all did during the wars. How you all tried to take advantage of the chaos to occupy our lands in the name of 'security' or 'defence'. If we were not a strong nation with a powerful military might to begin with, I have no doubt that you all would have looted our lands bare by this point."

"....Be that as it may, the point still stands. We know nothing about this weapon of yours, and we are not even sure if you will turn it on the others. After all, it is clear that you have not forgotten old grudges-"

"Old Grudges!?"

Kaito roared at Peter's words, shutting up the younger man.

"Look the families of the survivors from Dresden and other areas in the eyes, those whom you and your armies bombed, knowing that they were civilian centers, and tell them to forget the 'old grudges'!"

He turned to the representative from France.

"Tell the people of your former colonies that you are sorry for massacring anyone who tried to resist your cruel rule. That you are sorry for using them as cannon fodder and for the inhuman tortures you inflicted on them for even daring to go against your rule. Tell them to forgive you and forget 'old grudges'."

He then turned to Canada.

"Tell the parents of the children you killed in your 'Residential School System' in the name of 'Cultural reformation' that you are sorry and to forget 'Old Grudges'."

The entire security council fell silent as, one after another, the representative of Hoenn aired all their dirty laundry. Thankfully, this was a secret meeting, and nothing was being documented officially or broadcast anywhere. If not, there was no telling what kind of impact his words would have on the entire world.

The worst thing for these people was that Kaito was neither wrong nor misinformed in any way.

After all, the old man, who was not nearly a hundred and ten years old, had personally witnessed the majority of these incidents and played a large role in mitigating a lot of these cruel acts as the Elder of the Hoenn Outer Tribe.

There is a reason why Hoenn is called the 'Last Sanctuary' by the people who care for nature, or look to preserve history or life.

Because Hoenn actively intervenes wherever they see things going in an inhuman direction and saves everything they can.

They even intervene in mass extinction events and protect lost species in their special reserves that nobody but the highest authorities in their government and those that take care of said reserves are allowed access to.

The last of the Tasmanian Tigers, the last of the Caribbean Monk Seals, The last of the Passenger Pigeon, and so many other animal and plant life that went extinct across the world due to man-made disasters, excessive hunting and many other reasons can now only be found in Hoenn where they are kept extremely secure and in a comfortable habitat, away from human hands.

Hell, they even had the last surviving population of the Dodo birds hidden away on their land.

Unfortunatley, while they did save many species, they can't engage in active breeding programs since the landmass of Hoenn is not big enough for such things. As for sending them to other nations to populate their original homelands? That is out of the question. At least for now.

Once the old man who had seen all the atrocities of the nations that these ambassadors came from, he sighed and got up from his seat.

"We are done here. Also, just so you know, the 'weapon' that you are all so afraid of is not a weapon at all."

Kaito grinned mischievously at the tense faces of the people.

"He is one of our three main Gods. I will not elaborate more than that, since that guy-"

Kaito pointed at Peter.

"-Should have all the details thanks to the reports that Monarch sent to their president. And yes, Peter, Monarch is not a hoax, and nor is it a group of dreaming idiots like the majority of your foolish government seems to think."

Without turning around, Kaito left the meeting, knowing that he had probably offended everyone in the room with his words and actions.

However, if there was one thing he would not tolerate, it was getting lectured by younglings that were decades too early to tell him to forget about 'old grudges'.

Author Notes: Fun fact, John B. McNamee is the real name of the scientist responsible for the Mars Climate Observer project in 1998-99.
