Kelvin performs exaggerated happiness.
He dances.
Spins.
Bows.
Applause erupts.
DAN KAY
This guy no dey ever tire!
Kelvin laughs too loud.
Slaps hands.
Mira watches.
Concern grows.
EXT. FRIENDS' HANGOUT – LATER THAT NIGHT
Kelvin sits alone on the steps.
Sweat dripping.
Breathing hard.
Dan Kay joins him.
DAN KAY
You dey perform like rent due tomorrow.
Kelvin chuckles.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
Rent always due.
Dan Kay studies him.
DAN KAY
You ever rest?
Kelvin doesn't answer.
INT. KELVIN ADEYEMI'S ROOM – NIGHT
Kelvin counts money.
Not enough.
He sighs.
Picks up his phone.
Scrolls.
Sees old messages.
Stops at Ella's name.
Deletes the chat thread.
Pauses.
Deletes again.
Final.
KELVIN (V.O.)
"Letting go hurts less than holding what's gone."
EXT. STREET – DAY (TRAGICOMEDY)
Kelvin sings at a bus stop.
People film him.
A CHILD dances.
Coins drop.
A MAN interrupts.
MAN
You too talented to be here.
Kelvin smiles.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
Talent no get address.
The man laughs.
Walks away.
INT. MIRA OKAFOR'S ROOM – DAY
Mira prepares food.
Packs it carefully.
Hesitates.
Adds more.
Looks determined.
EXT. KELVIN ADEYEMI'S ROOM – DAY
Mira knocks.
No answer.
Knocks again.
Door opens.
Kelvin appears.
Tired.
MIRA OKAFOR
You've not eaten.
Kelvin shrugs.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
Music dey feed me.
She pushes past him.
Sets the food down.
MIRA OKAFOR
Music doesn't bleed when you collapse.
Kelvin forces a smile.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
You too serious.
She looks at him.
Hurt.
INT. KELVIN ADEYEMI'S ROOM – DAY
They sit in silence.
Kelvin eats reluctantly.
Mira watches.
MIRA OKAFOR
You don't have to punish yourself.
Kelvin chews slowly.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
I'm not punishing myself.
I'm training.
MIRA OKAFOR
For what?
He pauses.
Swallows.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
For disappointment.
Silence hits.
EXT. OPEN MIC EVENT – NIGHT
Crowd bigger than usual.
Kelvin steps on stage.
Spotlight.
He scans the crowd.
Mira is there.
Smiles.
Kelvin looks away.
🎵 SONG – "LAUGHING MAN" 🎵
I laugh so you don't see the cracks
Smile wide, carry the weight on my back
Clap for me, then disappear
I'm loud with joy, quiet with fear
Applause roars.
Kelvin bows.
Exits quickly.
INT. BACKSTAGE – NIGHT
Kelvin leans against the wall.
Breathing uneven.
Hands shaking.
He sits.
Head drops.
Mira rushes in.
MIRA OKAFOR
Kelvin—
He raises a hand.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
Please.
Not now.
She stops.
Her face breaks.
MIRA OKAFOR
I've been "not now" for years.
Kelvin looks up.
Shock.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
Mira—
MIRA OKAFOR
You let everyone touch your heart except the one holding it.
Tears fall.
Kelvin freezes.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
I never asked you to stay.
Her voice trembles.
MIRA OKAFOR
And that's the tragedy.
She turns to leave.
Stops.
Looks back.
MIRA OKAFOR (CONT'D)
When you're done being everyone's favorite song, remember someone was ready to listen in silence.
She leaves.
Kelvin remains.
Stunned.
INT. EMPTY HALLWAY – NIGHT
Kelvin sinks to the floor.
Hands on his head.
Lights flicker.
KELVIN (V.O.)
"The one who stays quiet longest feels pain loudest."
EXT. BRIDGE – NIGHT (DARK TURN)
Kelvin stands alone.
Cars pass.
Wind blows.
He grips the railing.
Looks down.
Breath heavy.
Phone vibrates.
A message from Mira.
He doesn't open it.
Tucks the phone away.
KELVIN (V.O.)
"When love feels like a burden, even hope feels heavy."
EXT. BRIDGE – CONTINUOUS
Kelvin closes his eyes.
Tears stream.
He sings softly into the night.
🎵 SONG – "IF I STOP HERE" 🎵
If I stop here, would they notice?
If I fall, who would care?
I gave my heart to everyone
Now there's nothing left to spare
A CAR HONKS loudly.
Kelvin flinches.
Steps back.
Breathing fast.
EXT. BRIDGE – MOMENTS LATER
Kelvin sits on the ground.
Shaking.
Crying openly now.
No music.
No audience.
Just pain.
FADE DOWN (STILL NOT THE END).
