The place is loud.
Kelvin sits in the corner.
Friends joke.
Music blasts.
Kelvin taps the table rhythmically.
Stops.
Mira enters.
She scans the room.
Finds Kelvin.
Their eyes meet.
Kelvin looks away.
INT. FRIENDS' HANGOUT – LATER
Mira sits beside Kelvin.
Silence between them.
Noise around them.
She nudges him lightly.
He looks.
She smiles.
He nods.
They sit.
MIRA OKAFOR
You didn't open my message.
Kelvin shrugs.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
I didn't know what to say.
She studies him.
MIRA OKAFOR
You never do.
Kelvin smiles weakly.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
Talking hasn't helped me much lately.
She exhales.
Looks away.
EXT. STREET – NIGHT
Kelvin and Mira walk side by side.
Quiet.
Their footsteps echo.
A group passes, laughing.
One GIRL waves at Kelvin.
Kelvin nods.
Mira notices.
Says nothing.
MIRA OKAFOR
You make people feel light.
Kelvin shrugs.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
They don't want to carry the weight with me.
She stops walking.
He stops too.
MIRA OKAFOR
You never let me try.
He looks at her.
Confused.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
Try what?
She hesitates.
Smiles sadly.
MIRA OKAFOR
Nothing.
She walks ahead.
Kelvin watches her go.
Follows.
INT. KELVIN ADEYEMI'S ROOM – NIGHT
Kelvin sits with his guitar.
He strums.
A soft melody begins.
He sings quietly.
🎵 SONG – "FREE BUT BROKE" 🎵
I make you laugh, I make you fly
But I can't buy the dreams you buy
You dance with me, then chase the gold
I'm warm at heart, but life is cold
His voice cracks.
He stops.
Silence.
INT. MIRA OKAFOR'S ROOM – NIGHT
Mira listens to the song through the wall.
She sits on her bed.
Tears roll.
She presses her palm to her chest.
EXT. MARKETPLACE – DAY (COMEDY BEATS)
Kelvin walks through the crowd.
Girls greet him.
One grabs his hand playfully.
Another fixes his shirt.
Kelvin laughs awkwardly.
Dan Kay watches, amused.
DAN KAY
Guy, you be curse and blessing together.
Kelvin grins.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
I no understand the blessing part again.
They laugh.
INT. TAILOR SHOP – DAY
Kelvin sits on a stool.
A GIRL measures him.
Too close.
She giggles.
Kelvin stiffens.
Her phone rings.
She answers.
Her tone changes.
She steps away.
Kelvin exhales.
EXT. ROOFTOP – SUNSET
Kelvin sits alone.
City below.
Wind blows.
He hums softly.
KELVIN (V.O.)
"The hand that feeds laughter often starves alone."
INT. FRIENDS' HANGOUT – NIGHT
Open mic night.
Kelvin is pushed to the stage.
He hesitates.
Steps forward.
Guitar in hand.
Crowd quiets.
Mira watches.
He begins to sing.
🎵 SONG – "ATM LOVE (REPRISE)" 🎵
You don't love me, you love the card
The flashing lights, the guard
When the balance drops to zero
So does your hero
Laughter mixes with applause.
Kelvin smiles.
Mira doesn't laugh.
She watches him intensely.
INT. BACKSTAGE – NIGHT
Kelvin wipes sweat from his face.
Mira approaches.
They stand close.
MIRA OKAFOR
You hide pain inside jokes.
Kelvin chuckles.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
If I cry, people leave.
She swallows.
MIRA OKAFOR
If you keep joking, you'll never see who stays.
Kelvin looks at her.
Long beat.
EXT. FRIENDS' HANGOUT – NIGHT
They step outside.
Music muffled behind them.
Street quiet.
KELVIN ADEYEMI
Why do you stay?
She smiles.
Soft.
MIRA OKAFOR
Someone has to remember who you were before they started choosing money over moments.
Kelvin looks away.
INT. KELVIN ADEYEMI'S ROOM – NIGHT
Kelvin sits alone again.
This time, he picks up the guitar.
Plays confidently.
No sadness.
Just sound.
FADE TO BLACK (NOT THE END).
