Chapter 3 - The Future

'But what I'm I hiding from? What I'm I in danger of, and where the hell I'm I?!' His thoughts churned inside his head as he followed behind.

The creature led him deeper into his store, which, from the outside look, didn't seem this deep.

"Where are we going? Or where the hell are you taking me, I deserve to know." He requested boldly from the creature walking ahead of him.

It stopped at a point, then placed its hand on the wall for a while, and a red light scanned his palm before the whole store began to move.

From the motion, Snow could guess they were moving down. The rare advancements of the technologies Snow had witnessed since he arrived here were all mesmerising.

The creature finally turned to Snow, ready to answer all his questions.

"While we wait, I'll answer all your questions. But firstly, where did you say you were from again?,"

Snow felt heard now that the creature was finally ready to answer him and take him away from his ignorance about the world around him.

"I'm from Blue City. Some certain weird things happened to me, and I ended up here. I do not want to cause any trouble to you or anyone. If you could just tell me where Blue City is, I'll be on my way." He answered hastily, no longer clutching his stomach.

'The air around here doesn't seem so harsh like the one outside?,' he finally noticed his breathing was now back to how it was before he got here.

"Okay, but do you know you're in Blue City?. Or are you high on drugs? I hear the drugs they give out these days are strong, but I didn't know they were this strong." The creature answered with a disappointed look, his voice deeper than it initially was.

"What do you mean this is Blue City? Blue City isn't as technologically advanced as this! Are you referring to that I'm high on drugs or hallucinating?" Snow snapped, a sour expression appearing on his face.

Snow wasn't the type to drink to stupor, and he hated when someone called him a drunk. He quit that life after he got his degree and masters in science, and he promised his wife he would never go back to his old life after they got married.

The creature noticed his irritated reaction and immediately withdrew its words to avoid an argument or a fight.

"No, no, no, that's not what I meant. It was a joke. Please don't take it so seriously." It chuckled, placing a hand on its forehead.

"You see, in these parts of Blue City, getting drugged is a normal activity. It's so normal that most people can't survive without it. It's mostly because of the new microchip they've been installing in their brains, which seems to make them drug addicts." it explained to Snow, who still felt ignorant.

'What does he mean in these parts of Blue City?!, I'm I actually hallucinating, or maybe I'm still sleeping in my cabin back at the lab, and this is all a dream?!' His eyes widened as the realisation hit him.

"Wait a minute, this is Blue City?!"

His reaction caught the creature offguard. It stared at him for a long while with squinted eyes and a raised eyebrow before finally answering him.

"Isn't that what I've been saying since I started speaking?!" It replied sarcastically.

Snow shook his head, spanking his cheeks continuously to see if he was actually hallucinating or in a dream.

"No, this can't be possible. Did I just travel to the future?!" He whispered lower than the creatures ear could hear.

"Wait, what year is this?" Snow raised his head to ask, hoping for a positive response from the creature.

"The year?, oh well, it's the year 2130. Why do you ask, though?"

Snow's head felt disoriented after hearing the creatures response. If everything happening was actually real, and none of it was a dream, then it all meant he was vacuumed to the future.

'This is the future?! It all makes sense now.' He used both palms to rub his hair, staring at the floor beneath him.

Snow raised his head with more questions to ask, but the elevator floor had reached its destination and stopped.

"Come with me, I'll introduce you to some friends and you'll stay with them until you're safe." The creature gestured for him to follow it.

The door slid open automatically, and with a snap of its fingers, the holographic covering uplifted, revealing what was behind the wall.

It was a whole bar with aliens of the same race as the one that led him. It looked illegal from his point of view, but he felt less bothered about things that didn't concern him.

That was simply his nature, and he didn't change it for anyone, even after he got married.

"Well, welcome to Eden, the only bar that still serves normal drinks from a century ago. Those humans really enjoyed their stuff, and it's really good, though they've banned these stuff nowadays."

The aliens around him were too busy with their drinking and party to notice him, and he preferred it that way.

The alien ahead of him led him out of the bar to a room behind.

He slid it open and revealed two aliens mating with each other.

"Sorry, wrong room." He quickly shut it.

Then he went on to the second door and opened it, this time it was empty.

"Stay here until I'm back."

Snow felt like he shouldn't trust it, but for something that saved him from a danger, he knew nothing about it. The least he could do was just follow its lead and hope for the best.

At this point, there was really nothing he could do since he was in a future he knew nothing about. Everything had been technologically advanced, and there were introductions of new races that hadn't existed in his timeline.

'I'll just have to be careful. At this point, there's really nothing I can do here.' He sighed inwardly before responding to the alien.

"Sure, but don't try anything funny, I know kung-fu." He warned with a serious expression on his face.

"Calm down, I understand, I won't try anything funny." The alien shook its head with a silent chuckle.

'That usually scared people a century ago, I hope it still does.'

He stepped into the room and walked over to the empty chair, and took a seat.

"Make yourself at home, and if you feel thirsty or hungry, just ask, using the button on your seat. It also comes with a massage function for relaxation." the alien creature said last before closing the door shut.

'Right now, nothing I'm witnessing makes sense, but who I'm I to argue. I've literally been vacuumed into the future. Somehow, I'm actually happy about it.' He smiled softly.

'It means my machine actually works. It also negates the theories we made while we were ignorant about how a wormhole works.'

'I didn't know the pull would be that strong, that means my profound theory about the wormhole wasn't fully correct,' he sighed.

'All forms of light are absent, and an active wormhole actually makes a humming sound, or it was my machine, until I confirm it, that part will remain unknown.' He continued talking to himself.

'We'll have to fix the problem of losing oxygen with oxygen masks, wait. I wonder if they actually succeeded in creating a time machine here in the future!'

'That would actually be cool, I could learn from it and travel back to my timeline to finally complete my project. Joe would be so happy about it, though he won't be mentioned since he assisted until the last moment.'

'Humanity will finally be able to time travel, and it would be all because of me' he chuckled, thinking to himself.

While Snow was lost in his thoughts, the door swung open, and the alien walked in with some individuals.

"There he is." The alien pointed at Snow.
