Chapter 7 - PatchWork.

"Lisa!!!" Someone shouted from the sidelines, rushing towards her as quickly as he could.

He grabbed her hand and pulled her to his arms, staring at her closely to check for any injuries.

Her body had more bruises than he expected, making him more worried about her than he already was.

He quickly reached into his back pocket and pulled out a neura-patch. A small round patch with green colored neon lines all over its surface, once placed on an injured skin, it begins glowing.

It emits rhythmic micro-pulses that desensitize pain receptors and stimulate natural healing faster than the normal rate.

He quickly placed it on her injury, using his other hand to check her temperature. Everyone in the room immediately perceived the antiseptic smell coming from the polymer.

The rest focused on completely eliminating the rest of the cyborg men before the effect of the E.M.P wore off, and their cybernetic armour gains it's abilities back, leading them straight to their doom.

Unlike their leader, who had better fighting skills and experience in using his cyborg body than the rest who recently got theirs, they displayed no attention-grabbing feat.

The fight became one-sided once their leader was down, causing the mercenary group to become bored and end up eliminating them all within minutes.

"I thought I'd have a bit of fun, but I guess not everyone has learnt how to use the latest version of the cybernetics yet." She sighed, grabbing her twin daggers from the chest of one of the cyborg men.

There was no bloodstain on the knife, so she had no reason to wipe the knife clean. She simply slid the knife back into its sheath and joined the others, all gathered around Lisa.

"Oh come on, guys, it's just a bruise. Besides, when the E.M.P effect wears off, she'll get her boosted healing back. It's only temporary after all." She murmured with a bored expression on her face.

The others stared at her with understanding expression, but he didn't. He looked annoyed by her comment, but it couldn't be helped looking at how close he was to Lisa.

"Don't be like that, Dennis, it's not that deep. I was just kidding, Verspera will be here any minute with her gadgets, and all Lisa's injuries will be gone like they were never there." She added, trying to ease the brewing tension between her and Dennis.

"Besides, I can think she can survive till she actually gets here. She's just being playful so she can get closer to you, Dennis, and it's a disgusting sight to see."

"You will be better off minding your own business next time, Lizzy." Dennis shrugged, turning to look back at Lisa, who still laid on the ground.

"Guys, let's not forget why we're here. What do we do with him now? His arm has been ripped off, and he's bleeding terribly." One of the men said, drawing their attention to Snow, who still laid on the stretcher, still looking lifeless.

"Right, I almost forgot about him. We have to somehow slow down the bleeding while we wait for Verspera to get here. Only her can stop his bleeding completely." Dennis responded with a tattered expression on his face.

"Here Austen, use this to wrap around the injured arm. Should slow down the bleeding rate by forty per cent, until she gets here." He tossed a polymer to Austen, who caught it with practised ease.

The polymer was a flesh-coloured polymer strip packed with stem-cell gel and neural thread. It bonds with organic tissue instantly, fooling the body into thinking it's natural skin. The threads sync with neural signals to keep pain minimal.

It is a simple first aid response gadget created by Verspera, who was their team's inventor. Though most of her gadgets centred on healing, regeneration, and immortality, she at times ventured into other areas, proving and reminding them why she's a useful member of the team.

At this point, it was the only thing Dennis could think of, mainly because this wasn't his field he simply designed the E.M.P grenades, which proved to be extremely effective in every of their missions.

Austen moved closer to Snow, bending low enough and gently patching the open wound with the polymer Dennis gave him. It stuck to the skin and slowly integrated itself, changing its colour to suit the skin tone.

"Sometimes I forget the kind of healing technologies Verspera produces. She's almost an all-rounder, just that she's not very good at hand to hand combat."

"But if gadgets were involved, then she's probably beating everyone she meets with little to no difficulty." His eyes widened with the thought.

A revving engine rattled right outside the aliens base, signalling at her arrival.

"Finally she's here. Why the hell does she always take this long to arrive?!. She's a crucial part of the team, yet she always plays the non chalant type, putting all of our lives in danger." Dennis complained bitterly, voicing his thoughts out loud.

"I find it rather attractive. It makes us need her more and make the thought of us ever discarding her leave our minds. It's a simple manipulation technique, actually, works fifty per cent of the time." Lizzy muttered under her breath, her voice lower than the others could hear.

"Some people do it and get forgotten, she does it, and the team is constantly reminded of her value, making her a very sly individual. Sadly, girls like that are kind of my type." She scoffed.

Verspera walked into the room casually with her small robotic spider on her shoulder and a medic case in her hand.

"I'm surprised you all are still alive, I was expecting one or two dead bodies for my experiment." She said sarcastically, placing the medic case on the closest table she noticed.

She glanced at the scene, immediately mapping out the situation and picking out her next response of action. After taking notes of everything before her, she opened the medic case and pulled out a NanoGauze from one of the compartments.

"Alright then, who's going first?"
