Chapter 8 - Miracle Spider

Dennis didn't wait a second before he quickly responded with a raised hand.

"Over here, Lisa needs to be treated first. As a member, she has the utmost priority over anyone else!." He voiced out, ignoring the stares from the others.

Verspera stared at him, then slowly turned to the others who seemed to disagree with his words with their expressions.

"I see. If you care about her so much, then take care of her yourself." She concluded, tossing him the NanoGauze.

"Be careful with the amounts, don't overuse more than two drops on the injured part or you have yourself to blame for any reaction she displays." She warned, picking up her medic case.

Dennis caught the NanoGauze with his left arm, using his right to hold Lisa.

"Tch!, she's meant to be top priority considering her value to the team but sure, ignore her injuries and rather fix that of a stranger." He hissed violently, snapping open the cap of the NanoGauze.

The NanoGauze is a thin metallic mesh that moves like silk when it comes in contact with the bare, open skin. Once placed on the wound, it releases nanobots that seal open veins, reconnect tissue, and harden into a flexible carbon-fibre patch until the skin heals.

"Anyone else?" Verspera asked, glancing between the rest of the group.

"Trevor, you seem to be down. No issues on your side right?." She called out, making everyone turn to Trevor.

He had been quiet since everything started, not speaking a single word. Not because he couldn't but because it was in his nature to talk less.

"Hmm, I'm fine. The patient over there needs your urgent help." He shrugged, pointing towards Snow.

She nodded before turning and walking over to Snow's unconscious body.

"Is this the target you all risked your lives to acquire?" She asked, tracing her fingers over his body.

"Yeah, he is, sadly they've already ripped his arm off. He won't be of much use to us anymore in the black market, so what should we do with him?" Austen stated with a straight face.

Verspera spared him a brief glance before looking away, her attention returning to Snow. Her fingers slowly traced his face with that confused look you have when you know something but can't figure it out.

"For some reason, he looks familiar." She whispered to herself, checking his pulse.

His pulse was steady, indicating nothing was wrong with his heartbeat.

"So the only issue we have here is his missing limbs,"

She patted her spider on the head, encouraging it to come down from her shoulder.

"Alright listen properly Judy, we are going to slowly regenerate his arm with your technology alright?"

She opened her medical case and searched through it for medicated hand gloves, an antiseptic and a bandage.

Once she was fully prepared, she gave a nod to Judy on standby, awaiting further instructions.

Judy crawled up to his shoulder and began weaving webs together, interlocking each web with Snow's skin as it moved.

The skeletal form of a hand slowly started forming from the little it did, giving Verspera hope that her technology works on living organisms as well.

Judy's ability was simple and easy to remember or rather recall, that was the reason she carried it almost everywhere she went.

Judy is a small metallic spider that secretes organic nanofiber to close wounds like it's weaving silk.

The fibres glow faintly and integrate with human DNA over time to synchronise with the human body, making it harder to know the difference between its end product and the human body or skin.

She had only tested this on animals and non-living things to avoid unforeseen things when it was tested with a human, after all, she has a criminal offence already.

"Making myself another would definitely mean I'm going to jail," her thoughts regressed to a memory, causing her to shiver.

She watched her robotic spider, Judy slowly repair and rebuild a human hand from scratch without the help of a human assistant.

"I've grown more than I can remember," she smiled, staring at her creation putting in effort to save Snow from dying.

She almost smiled when her teammates began gathering, including Lisa.

"How's it going? Is it working?" Austen asked, being the first to arrive at the scene.

Verspera simply nodded, her focus still concentrated on Snow and her miracle robot spider.

"As expected from your creation, doesn't surprise me anymore at this point. More like it just impresses me how fast you're growing with these inventions."

"If not for the lack of funds and proper equipment, I'm sure you would have successfully created it. You definitely would have followed in your master's footsteps in becoming one of the greatest scientists." He acknowledged, staring at her robot spider work on Snow.

Slowly his arm regenerated in front of the whole group, it felt so unreal because technology like this hadn't existed yet in this century.

"Technology like this is meant to be released a century or two after this to be honest, your creations are amazing Verspera," Dennis added, folding his arms together.

Lisa didn't say anything but she gave a nod of approval, supporting Dennis's words wholeheartedly.

Within minutes, the procedure was complete and before their very eyes, Snow's arm was fully regenerated. The skin, length, look, everything was made just as it was meant to be.

Or they probably made that assumption since they didn't see his right arm, probably it was damaged, or had a scar or something that made him, him.

But without any information or image about how it looked, to them, it was made the best way it possibly could have been made.

"Alright, I'm done with it." She announced, using the antiseptic to slowly clean the arm.

"I have a request from you all and I hope you honour it by any means necessary."

They all glanced at each other, wondering what the request could possibly be for her to start like that.

"Hmm, what's the reason for the request?." Trevor asked curiously.

Amidst the chatter, Snow's cyborg finger twitched just a bit.

"It's a simple request and for the first time, I'm asking from the bottom of my heart."..
