Chapter 9 - The Base

Her statement left everyone stunned for a while, still waiting for her request.

"Fine, what is it about?" Trevor intervened, taking a seat on one of the dead cyborg bodies.

She placed Snow's hand carefully on the stretcher, pulling off her gloves and tossing them aside.

"I want you all to accept him as a member once he wakes up. That's my request."

She closed the lid of the antiseptic, wiping the body of the antiseptic with a sanitised tissue wipe before setting it down in her medic case and closing it shut.

The whole group turned to her at the sound of her request, their facial expressions already selling them away.

"What do you mean Verspera, and on what basis should this be considered?" Lizzy asked with a stern expression, her arms folded together right below her boob's.

Verspera packed everything into her medic case, setting her spider back on her shoulder before wiping her hands clean with another sanitised tissue wipe.

"Based on the point that he is now my test subject for my latest invention and he reminds me of, my master."

"Also, he will definitely be another valued member of our group, considering the fact that he could be used as bait and meat shields once in a while" She added, her expression stoic and indifferent.

The others glanced at each other, weighing her words before one of them turned to answer.

"Well at the end it's not our decision to make, the decision rests on the shoulders of the boss. Even if we accept him here and now, the boss still has to evaluate him and make his decision." Dennis responded to her request.

"I'm aware of that, I'm saying you'll support me in pleading with the boss to accept him. That's all I request for, nothing more than that. If he doesn't get accepted, then you can carry out your original plan of selling him on the black market."

Her voice carried no sentiments, only logical words. Her facial expressions didn't betray her either, they remained emotionless as she spoke. That's one of the reasons the team trusted her with their life, because she was the type to tell you if she ever had the idea of killing you for the fun of it.

Not go behind your back and plot your demise like a coward would.

"Alright, fine then. We'll support you but the decision still remains his to make, not ours. Now before the police raid this place and find us, we need to be on our way." Trevor spoke on behalf of the team.

"Austen, pick him up, let's get out of here as soon as possible. The rest of you should pick any gadgets we might need including and not excluding the body parts of the cyborgs." He added, rising to his feet to get the car ready for their departure.

The rest of the team scattered to their various positions to carry out his order to avoid punishment from their boss. In every mission, one member of the squad is picked out to be the leader for that mission by their boss.

And for this mission, Trevor the quiet one was picked for the mission because of his exceptional skills in staying attentive to the situation, rationalising, planning, and talking less.

After they were all done packing everything they needed and would need, they exited the area as fast as they could, leaving no trace of their arrival behind.

Trevor drove them through the abandoned underground subway station, guiding them smartly back to their hideout.

"Alright guys, we'll have to explain everything carefully to him so he doesn't see us as incompetent. Don't misbehave in front of him, Lisa." He stared at her through the rear-view mirror.

"Don't look at me like that, I do no such thing." She stared out the window with an irritated look on her face.

Dennis leaned in, trying to make her feel better like he always did.

The rest of the team remained quiet throughout the remaining journey.

Soon after they arrived at their base, their car slowly came to a stop in front of an old garage door.

"Alright, gang. We go in carefully and smartly, don't let the others see him or they'll object to his stay. Then we wait till the boss is back from his meeting with the city holders." Trevor reminded, carefully informing them.

"Come on, let's go," Austen added, stretching his tired body before opening the door.

A small red button on his neck glowed faintly before fading away, and then his eyes followed.

"I think the E.M.P. has worn off, our systems should be back to normal in a bit."

The others stepped down from the car as he did, sliding their sleeves up to their arms and flexing their arms to check.

"Yeah, mine seems fine now."

Verspera's mobile rolled to a stop behind them, parking in the empty space she saw.

"Who's gonna help me carry him inside?" She called out from the front seat.

Austen volunteered himself and went over, picking Snow up and taking him into the base.

The garage door slid open, revealing a small room with stairs at the end.

The room had a table at the centre with four seats around it, bolted to the ground. On the other end was a small bar with neon lights, drinks of different colours and a bartender cleaning each glass cup over and over again.

The inside was covered with neon bulb lights, making it look all the more futuristic to the eyes.

They stepped inside, dropping snow on a long blue sofa, sitting beside the wall of the garage door.

Then they headed to different parts of the room. Beside the bar was a door that led to another room, far bigger than this one and it was theirs.

It was also similar but with bedrooms and a kitchenette beside the door.

Verspera sat beside Snow, still waiting for him to wake up from his long slumber.

"The probability of meeting someone who looks exactly like you even after I try to forget you is diabolical, almost like the universe doesn't want me to ever forget you." She murmured to herself, staring at Snow.

Night was approaching fast and the gang already felt tired, the wait for their boss became stressful and the other gang members soon started arriving at the base one after the other.

They ended up hiding Snow in their own base room, keeping him away from the other members for the time being, until they've gotten approval from their boss.

After all, having a full human within the team will definitely create uncanny thoughts from the others, because humans are sold at a high price in the black market.

Night soon arrived and everyone drifted off to their separate rooms. In the end, their boss didn't come back that night, so the decision was postponed until his arrival.
