Chapter 19 - The Past

Not long after, a nurse entered David's room.

"Excuse me, Doctor, I've brought you warm water to clean yourself," said the nurse, to which David nodded.

"Would you like me to help you clean yourself?" the nurse offered.

"No need, my wife will do it," David said casually.

The nurse understood and immediately left the room.

"Which wife do you mean, sir?" Liana asked, confused.

"You, of course, Liana. Who else is in this room?" David replied.

"But..." He was cut off by David.

"Remember who is the reason I'm here, so please just do it. You want to be forgiven, don't you?" David said.

He quickly finished his porridge. And immediately gave Liana a sign that he was ready.

"Yes," Liana answered, feeling a little pressured.

Liana unbuttoned David's shirt one by one, helping him take it off. However, Liana didn't dare to look at his face.

David, seeing this, could only give a wry smile. Liana took a white cloth with slightly trembling hands, then dipped it into the bowl of warm water.

"Are you that scared?" David asked, staring intently at Liana.

"No," Liana answered briefly.

David, realizing that Liana felt uncomfortable with the current situation, felt he couldn't bear to pressure her anymore.

"That's enough, stop here. You can leave if you want," David said, immediately grabbing the hospital gown.

Liana immediately held David's hand.

"I will do it," Liana declared, meticulously wiping every part of David's body.

This time, Liana truly gathered her courage to look at David. She could clearly see David's physique. Although it looked attractive, she tried her best to restrain herself from touching him directly.

Liana finished helping to wash David's body and put his shirt back on.

"Now, sir, please rest. I will stay here tonight to keep you company," Liana explained.

"Alright then," David replied.

"By the way, where is your family, sir? Why haven't I seen them at all?" Liana asked curiously.

"They're busy, currently abroad. Besides, I don't care whether they come back or not," David explained.

"Why is that? If I had the chance, I would usually be the one visiting my parents," Liana said.

"You never knew what it was like to be left by your parents for work when you were little. I grew up with just my older brother," David explained.

"But after the accident that befell him and my sister-in-law, he left me alone. Fortunately, the child she was carrying survived, and that is Rey, whom I already consider my own son," David added, recounting how lonely his life was.

"I understand now. Someday, you will be the best parent for Rey. I'm sure you won't let him feel the loneliness you once experienced," Liana expressed.

David pulled Liana and hugged her. He just needed a warm embrace right now to calm himself down.

Liana didn't mind at all. She knew that David lacked nothing financially, but his mental state had been tested by various problems when he was little.

"You're not alone anymore, sir. There's Rey, there's me, there are many people who care about you," Liana explained, offering comfort.

David tightened his hug because, honestly, he couldn't handle talking about his brother.

Liana tried to calm David down until she sat on the edge of David's bed. She kept stroking his head to soothe him, and that truly made David fall asleep.

Liana also unknowingly dozed off with David on the bed.

The next morning, David woke up first. He could see his position, sleeping while hugging Liana all night.

"Liana, I've never been able to sleep so soundly. I don't know why that nightmare didn't come again," David thought to himself while tightening his hug.

Liana felt a little breathless because David was still hugging her.

"Are you awake, sir?" Liana asked.

"Not yet," David answered briefly.

"Not yet, how? Your eyes are already wide open," Liana replied, wanting to get up immediately, but David held her back.

"Just like this for a moment, just for a bit," David pleaded with Liana.

"What if someone comes later?" Liana countered.

"Then just let them," David answered casually.

A few moments later, the room door opened, revealing Dr. Erik who had just entered.

"Ahem..." said Erik as he entered.

Liana, realizing this, immediately spontaneously got up.

"Sorry to interrupt you two, but I just want to tell you. You can go home now, David," Erik announced.

"Really? Thank goodness then. Thank you for the care you've given, Dr. Erik," Liana said politely.

"Oh, you're welcome, Miss Liana. Maybe next time you should teach him how to say thank you. He's very arrogant, even his gaze right now looks like he wants to pounce on me," Erik retorted.

"In that case, here is the prescription I wrote for him. Please make sure this naughty person takes it," Erik explained.

"Even if you didn't write it, it wouldn't matter to me. I know what medicine I should take," David interrupted, still annoyed with Erik for coming into his room so early in the morning, disturbing his time alone with Liana.

"Liana, look at that. His stubbornness hasn't decreased even a little," Erik said.

"Erik, you really want to be..." He looked for something to throw at Erik.

"You can't, David. I treated you, you owe me your life. I'll wait for your treat later," Erik declared as he ran out the door.

"What's wrong with you two? You're colleagues," Liana interjected, puzzled.

"You can go home today, sir. Now I will call Uncle Will to pick you up," Liana explained.

"You're coming with me?" David asked.

"No, sir. I have to work. What if my boss cuts my salary if I don't go to work?" Liana explained.

"I'm the boss. You don't have to worry about that. If necessary, I'll increase your salary," David replied.

"You are so funny, sir. You always speak so carelessly," Liana said.

"Take good care of yourself, sir. I'll go now," Liana added while stroking David's head.

David, who felt genuinely happy about Liana's action, could only smile shyly. Because honestly, he had never felt anything like this before.

Liana left the room, leaving David alone there. Without David realizing it, Erik returned to the room.

"It seems Mr. David can fall in love too," Erik teased.

"Be quiet, you. Go and take care of your patients," David said while getting up from his bed.

"David, your mother just called me, asking about your condition," Erik said seriously.

"Really? What did you tell her?" David asked as he buttoned his shirt.

"What else? You know I always tell her the truth, right?" Erik answered.

"Well, whatever. There's nothing that can be done," David said, not really caring.

"Where are you going?" Erik asked, seeing David was already dressed neatly.

"My office," David answered briefly.

"Oh my God, this child. He really can't take even one more day of rest. If only Liana was here, he would definitely stick to her like a postage stamp. Forget work, he wouldn't even be willing to get out of bed," Erik grumbled, unable to understand David's behavior.

On the other side, Liana who had just arrived at the office immediately entered the elevator to go to her workspace.

"Miss Liana, right?" Oscar, one of David's colleagues, remarked.

"Yes, I am. And you are..." Liana said, trying to remember.

"I'm Oscar. We met in Mr. David's meeting room yesterday, didn't we?" Oscar said.

"That's right, I remember. Do you have some business here?" Liana asked curiously.

"Exactly. I want to ask for Mr. David's signature for this document," Oscar explained.

"A signature, huh? But Mr. David is not in the office right now. If you want, I can deliver it," Liana offered.

"Is that so? Where did he go? Can't I meet him directly?" Oscar asked.

"It seems a bit difficult because he is currently ill," Liana answered.

"He can get sick too, apparently. Alright, Miss Liana, I accept your offer. Please deliver this document to Mr. David," Oscar said.

Liana accepted the document, and Oscar deliberately touched Liana's hand.

"Oh, Miss Liana, forgive me, but honestly, you look so beautiful," Oscar flirted, his hand intending to stroke Liana's hair.

Precisely at that moment, the elevator door opened. And Bram was standing there. Liana immediately decided to get out of the elevator because she felt very uncomfortable.

"Liana, what's wrong... Why do you look panicked?" Bram asked worriedly.

"Nothing, I just felt a little uncomfortable," Liana turned to look at the elevator.

"What did he do...?" Bram said, sensing something had just happened.

"Never mind, let's go back to the desk," Liana said, immediately inviting Bram to return.

Liana pulled Bram's hand, which made Bram feel like he shouldn't be too close to his boss's wife.

"Liana let go of me, I don't want Mr. David to see it," Bram said.

"Why, why shouldn't he see it?" Liana asked, confused.

"Of course because you are his wife, how can I be close to my boss's wife?" Bram explained.
