"Alright, I won't go. But you have to take this medicine first," Liana said, remembering Erik's message.
"Okay, help me sit up first," David requested.
Liana helped David sit up on his bed. However, David kept trying to find opportunities to get closer to Liana. He pulled Liana closer to him, and hugged her to help him rise.
Liana, who felt too close to David, could only surrender to his hug; after all, she only intended to help.
Liana took a glass of water from the nightstand beside David's bed and gave him the medicine to drink.
"Thank you..." David said briefly.
"You're welcome, sir," Liana replied, smiling at David.
"Ahhh..." David started clutching his stomach again, which made Liana quite panicked.
"What's wrong, does it hurt again? Wait, I'll call the doctor," Liana said, panicking.
Before Liana could leave, David immediately pulled Liana's hand to hold his stomach. David made Liana gently rub his stomach.
"The pain is already lessened," David remarked, having done it on purpose.
"You scared me, sir. That's not funny at all to joke about," Liana said firmly, annoyed.
"I'm sorry... I'm just kidding," David explained, trying to calm Liana down.
"Are you that scared something might happen to me?" David asked confidently.
"What are you talking about? Be quiet, you just recovered," Liana replied, a little embarrassed.
The room door was knocked from outside; it turned out to be the nurse delivering David's breakfast.
"Good morning, Doctor and madam, this is your breakfast and the medicine that should be taken after eating," the nurse explained.
"Alright, thank you, nurse," Liana replied while accepting the food tray.
"Madam...? Why did you call her that?" David asked the nurse, confused.
"Because she is your wife, Doctor. Isn't that how it should be?" the nurse explained.
"Is that so?" David said, now realizing that Liana must have claimed to be his wife to be allowed in.
"Alright, thank you, nurse, you may leave now," David said.
Liana, who was still facing away from David, could only hold back the overwhelming embarrassment.
"How can I face him now?" Liana thought to herself, feeling shy.
"Is there anything you want to say, Madam Liana?" David asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
Liana slowly walked towards David, carrying the food tray.
"That... I... I didn't mean to do it at all. Because I panicked, that was the only thing I could think of," Liana answered, a little nervous.
David laughed, seeing Liana acting as if she had been caught stealing something.
"Don't worry, I don't mind it at all. If you want, I can make it happen," David explained, teasing Liana.
"Be quiet, and eat your food," Liana snapped, her face turning even redder.
"Stay like this by my side, never leave me," David said.
Liana took a bowl of porridge from the food tray and tried to spoon-feed it slowly to David.
"Come on, open your mouth," Liana commanded.
David ate the first and second spoonfuls, which already made him lose his appetite to continue. How could he? The porridge was completely tasteless.
"That's enough, I can't swallow any more," David pleaded with a pained expression.
"No, if you had a patient, you would definitely tell them to keep eating, right? So why is it that the doctor himself doesn't want to eat now?" Liana taunted.
"But this is really not good, Liana. It has no taste at all," David whined.
"Doctor, if you whine like this, you might be heard by a passing nurse. Aren't you embarrassed?" Liana stated.
"No, why should I be embarrassed? I only act like this with my wife," David explained without any shame.
"Whose wife? Quickly open your mouth," Liana retorted, surprised by David.
David could only surrender and obey Liana's command. After the porridge was finished, Liana helped David take his medicine.
"Now it's time to rest." Liana helped David lie down.
"Where are you going?" David asked, not wanting to be left by Liana.
"I want to go home, sir. I haven't showered this morning," Liana explained.
"What for? You already smell nice," David remarked.
"What are you talking about, sir? Rey will be here soon. That's why I want to say goodbye and go home," Liana stated.
"I told you not to leave me," David asserted, pulling Liana onto his bed.
David immediately hugged Liana like a baby who didn't want to be left by its mother.
"Sir, what are you doing? Someone might come in," Liana said, trying to pull David's hand off.
"Rey is allowed to do it, so why can't I?" David interjected.
"What? You're comparing yourself to Rey?" Liana said, completely baffled.
The room door opened, and Rey entered, carrying a food carrier while running and calling Liana.
"Mom...! You're here!" Rey said happily.
"Let go..." Liana immediately pushed David's hand away strongly.
"Rey, you're here," Liana quickly stood up and straightened her clothes.
"Mom, Rey brought food from home," he said, handing the food carrier, which Aunt Mirna had given him, to Liana.
"Thank you, Rey," Liana said happily.
"Why did you come here, Rey? You're disturbing people," David snapped irritably.
"Sir, what are you saying? Your son came, of course he wants to visit his father," Liana said, surprised by David's behavior.
"Yes, Rey came to visit Dad. But Rey wanted to see Mom more," Rey replied, only looking at Liana.
"Oh dear... these two will never stop arguing," Liana sighed.
"Rey, Mom is going home for a bit to shower, okay? You stay here and look after your dad," Liana explained.
"Okay, Mom," he said, giving a salute.
Liana left, only leaving Rey and David alone in the room.
"Dad, you're mean, taking Mom Liana so early in the morning," Rey complained.
"What do you mean?" David asked, busy with the tablet in his hand.
"Mom left Rey very early in the morning, even before Rey woke up," Rey explained.
"That means Liana loves Dad more," David teased.
"No way, Dad, you're annoying!" Rey, annoyed, immediately sat on the room's sofa with a sulky face.
Seeing this, David decided to call Rey to come up to his bed and invited him to watch a movie together.
"Come here, let's watch together," David said, trying to persuade Rey.
Rey remained silent with his sulky face.
"Alright, this time we can eat snacks too," David offered.
"Really, Dad?" Rey responded, feeling happy.
"Yes, hurry up and come here. There are only these chips here," David said (taking a bag of chips usually sold at the supermarket).
Rey climbed onto the bed and lay down beside David to watch the movie. After a while, Rey fell asleep next to David.
The afternoon arrived, and David slowly got out of bed and carried the sleeping Rey. He went out of his room to hand Rey over to Uncle Will, who had been waiting outside David's ward.
"Uncle, take him home. Make sure he doesn't wake up, or he might throw a tantrum," David whispered slowly.
"Yes, Master," Uncle Will replied.
"Liana..." David suddenly said.
"Uncle, leave through the back door. Don't let Liana see you," David commanded in a panic.
"Understood... Understood, Master," Will immediately left, carrying Rey through the back door.
David immediately went back into his room, straightened himself up, and pretended to be asleep.
"Doctor, I..." Liana said, just opening the room door.
"Where is Rey...? Didn't I tell him to look after the doctor earlier?" Liana asked, looking for Rey.
"He's sleeping." Liana straightened David's blanket.
"If you look closely, the doctor is quite handsome, isn't he? His nose, his eyes, his face, everything is perfect," Liana commented, unaware that David was only pretending to sleep.
David opened his eyes and immediately looked at Liana. This made Liana's eyes widen, as she hadn't expected David to wake up.
"Say that again, I want to hear it," David said, immediately looking at Liana.
"What's wrong? You were pretending to sleep, weren't you?" Liana replied, embarrassed.
"I know, Liana. My charm is really hard to forget. Isn't that right?" David boasted.
"Be quiet, or this knife will fly onto your bed," Liana threatened.
David just laughed at Liana's behavior. Not only that, David also saw the food carrier Liana brought.
"What is this? Are you trying to poison me again?" David said, still traumatized from eating Liana's cooking, even though it was delicious, it was full of deception.
"Poison? Don't be ridiculous. I cooked this because you said earlier that the hospital food wasn't good. I cooked for you, and you talk like that," Liana said, feeling offended.
"Really? I didn't know, I'm sorry. Thank you, I didn't expect you would make it specially for me," David said.
"Never mind, you haven't eaten, have you?" Liana said firmly, opening the lid of the food carrier.
"Because the doctor said you shouldn't eat solid food yet, I made this porridge for you," Liana explained, giving the porridge to David.
"Come on, try it," Liana added.
"Is this... not spicy?" David asked suspiciously.
"Of course not. Why would I give spicy food to a sick person?" Liana retorted, assuring David.
David started scooping the porridge and immediately ate it.
"Delicious," David said simply, continuing to eat the porridge Liana made.
"I told you. You don't trust people at all," Liana remarked.
