"Jin! Wake up! You're gonna be late on your first day!" Brittany grabbed Jin's covers, yanking them off his sleeping body, but she accidentally grabbed his pants and shirt in the process, flinging him into the wall.
"Arghh! What the hell?! My nose!"
"Oops! Sorry! But now's not the time for that, you need to get dressed!" She picked him up and shoved him into this closet.
"Brittany, why are you rushing me? It's 7 in the morning. Boot camp starts at 9." He reminded her as he started dressing.
"Yeah, but it's good to get into the habit of waking up early. When you're there, the instructors will wake you up at 5 in the morning. It's tough being an initiate."
"Okay, I'm dressed."
Her eyes lit up. "Great, now make breakfast!"
"Weren't you just rushing me? Why do I have to make breakfast now?"
"I was rushing you so you could get ready for boot camp AND prepare breakfast. Now come on!"
Jin didn't even have the chance to argue as Brittany grabbed him by the waist and carried him all the way downstairs.
"Mom! I have him!" She displayed Jin like a trophy over her head.
"Morning Aunty Anyssa."
"Good Morning, sweetie. What's for breakfast today?"
Jin looked around the kitchen, using his mana to see what ingredients they had.
"How about French to-?"
Anyssa and Brittany said yes so fast that he didn't even get a chance to finish his question.
Jin fixed up breakfast quickly, ate just as fast, and was out of the house within thirty minutes.
"Okay, Jin, listen up. Your first day of boot camp is gonna be brutal. I'm talking hardcore! They'll work you to the bone, push you past your limits, and make you feel like shit!"
"You sure you're not talking about your experience?" He asked with a confused expression.
"What? No! Okay, maybe, just a little. But my point stands. Even the guardians go through tough training. You remember the training you went through in school, right? Well, it's ten times worse at the Aegis Corps."
Jin sighed. This is exactly what he didn't want to do. For years, he worked himself to the bone and was always in the heat of the action. All he wanted to do was chill and relax in this world, maybe have a little fun as well.
He wasn't upset, or at least didn't think he was. It was just unfortunate that he was blackmailed into this. However, he was thankful that it was a person close to him who figured out that he had power instead of someone else.
Like Oculia said, if she were someone else, Jin would have been reported and taken into custody. He also wasn't strong enough to fight back, either, so this was for the best, even if he didn't like it.
Exiting his thoughts, Jin returned to reality and realized that they were walking in a completely random direction. "Where are you taking me? We just passed the train station."
Brittany smirked, wrapping her arm around his shoulders and pointing toward the sky.
"My sweet Jin, you really are clueless about the Aegis Corps. Yesterday's Aegis branch was for support and ground crews—quick-response teams. The main headquarters, where I trained and where you'll be training, is up there."
Jin looked up and saw...nothing. Just the clouds and birds. He even spotted a few planes, but no headquarters. There was a lot he didn't know about the Aegis Corps, so if there was a base in the sky, he wouldn't be surprised.
"Okay? How are we getting up there?" He asked
"Our ride will be here soon."
Soon, their ride arrived. A sleek black SUV-like vehicle descending from the sky. Instead of wheels, it had anti-gravity devices that let it hover and maneuver in any direction, with jet vents for bursts of speed when needed.
"This is our ride." She smirked, opening the door for Jin.
The inside of the vehicle looked like a normal SUV, but only more high-tech. Instead of glass screens, there were holo-screens.
The cabin resembled a sleek, modern SUV, but infused with cutting-edge tech. Traditional glass displays were replaced by floating holographic interfaces that pulsed with soft, shifting light.
"Welcome. Please hold on tight. Is this your first time riding in a hover-vehicle?" The driver woman asked
Jin nodded. "Yeah. But I've been in planes before."
The woman smiled. "Great, then you'll be used to this."
Brittany giggled. "To the Aegis Corps headquarters!"
The woman pressed a button that shifted the light around the SUV, making it invisible, then blasted off into the sky.
Brittany looked at Jin, hoping that he would be scared out of his mind, screaming and clinging to her for comfort. But what she saw was him just sitting in his seat, his arms folded and his expression neutral.
'Was this supposed to be scary or something? I've been knocked into multiple planets before. I'm not even scared of heights.'
"You're no fun." She punched his arm.
"What? Was I supposed to have a reaction?"
"Yes! But you're taking this like a champ!"
"I am a champ."
"Ugh! Never mind. Just look up, that's the headquarters."
Jin peeked out of the window, and that's when his jaw dropped.
The Aegis Corps headquarters wasn't just a simple building; it was a supermassive floating piece of land with a massive city located on it. People could live their entire lives there and not even go to the surface.
Jin instantly knew that the wealthy and important people lived on this floating island. The place looked ten times better than the surface, and the surface looked amazing. Millions of people could live there.
"Whoa! That's freaking cool!"
Brittany smiled, happy with his reaction.
"Yup. You'll live up there until you finish your training. After graduation, you might stay or return to the surface, depending on your assignment. Once you're an operative like me, though, you can come and go whenever you want."
"That's freaking cool!" Jin had seen places like these countless times in his many lives, but he was always impressed by them. He couldn't help it; he was a sci-fi nerd.
Soon, they reached the checkpoint, the guard went over all of their information, and allowed them entry into the city.
"Welcome to Olympus." Brittany smiled.
