The following morning arrived bright and clear, sunlight spilling through the sheer curtains like gold poured over glass.
Evelyn blinked awake to the faint aroma of coffee and the sound of someone humming off-key in the kitchen. She smiled into her pillow. She would miss this after leaving for sure.
Dragging herself out of bed, she padded barefoot to the kitchen. Selene stood by the counter, her hair up in a messy bun, wearing one of Evelyn's oversized shirts.
"Good morning" Evelyn said sliding into a chair.
"Morning." Selene replied without turning around.
Evelyn reached for her phone on the counter. "Miles texted this morning. Said he'll meet us there at eleven."
Selene raised an eyebrow. "So formal. It's almost like you're house hunting with a realtor instead of a friend."
"Well, he is more organized than most realtors I've met. Which isn't many but that's not the point." Evelyn said, scrolling through the messages. "He even sent directions and a list of nearby cafés."
