Through the darkness, through the empty streets...
Cassandra's wolf kept running, her mighty paws hitting the ground heavily.
Cassandra didn't know where she was going. She didn't consciously choose a direction. But her wolf did.
Before Cassandra's human mind could question it, her paws were carrying her across familiar territory until she was standing in front of Rose Bennett's house.
The wolf padded silently across the lawn, moving toward the side of the house where Rose's bedroom window was.
But when she reached it, her enhanced senses told her immediately that Rose wasn't inside.
The room was empty and dark.
"Where is she?" Cassandra's human mind had wanted to panic but her wolf's nose twitched, picking up that intoxicating scent- vanilla and strawberry, somewhere close just not inside the bedroom.
The trail led away from the window.
Cassandra's wolf followed it, moving around the side of the house toward the driveway.
And there she was.
