Then all of a sudden, before Lilian could say anything, Cassandra's expression shifted.
Her eyes blinked then went distant, unfocused, staring at something Lilian couldn't see.
Lilian's brows furrowed in confusion as she watched Cassandra's playful smile faded too abruptly. It was like watching a mask slide into place.
"I knew the laugh was out of her character, in the first place." Lilian thought to herself. She knew she shouldn't be surprised yet it still felt... disappointing?
Or what was this strange feeling in her chest? Like she wanted the laugh to keep ringing out?
Meanwhile, Cassandra had slipped into a mindlink initiated by Lawrence;
*"Davina's got something. A lead on the message.*"
Cassandra's jaw tightened and she replied sharply;
"*Bring her to my office. Now.*"
Then the connection severed and Cassandra blinked again, her focus returning to the present. To her Rose standing there, unable to look away.
