"The lead was a dead end."
That was the message from Lawrence. It displayed boldly on Cassandra's phone's screen.
The CEO's anger shifted instantly, redirecting from personal hurt to professional fury.
She snatched up the phone and dialed Lawrence's number.
He answered on the first ring.
"Explain." Cassandra said coldly, her chest already heaving up and down heavily.
"When we got to the location Davina traced... The abandoned pack..." Lawrence began without preamble, his voice tight with frustration.
"There was someone there. A human male, mid-forties. He had the phone that was used to send you that message."
"And?" Cassandra pressed impatiently.
"The moment we started questioning him..." Lawrence paused as if to breathe before delivering the bombshell.
"He pulled out a blade and stabbed himself in the neck and he died within seconds. We couldn't stop him." He revealed.
Cassandra's grip on the phone tightened until the device creaked under the pressure.
