Cassandra picked up her fork with elegance, cutting a perfectly sized piece of grilled steak.
The meat was tender, cooked to perfection, still slightly pink in the center just the way she liked it.
She speared it carefully, then lifted it toward Lilian with a soft smile.
"Open up." She said gently, her voice warm like honey.
But Lilian didn't see the fork.
She didn't see the expensive cut of meat or the beautiful balcony or the woman offering it to her with such tender care.
All her eyes could offer her was the floor. The mere act of feeding her had triggered a memory of one particular day, eleven years ago.
FLASHBACK
It was morning and time for breakfast. The grand dining room of the Drayke mansion wasn't full like every other day, there was only the young heiress, Cassandra on seat.
Her parents were away on a pack politics meeting.
