Cassandra stood in the grand entrance hall of the Drayke mansion, her hands clenched into fists at her sides.
She had driven here directly from her penthouse after changing into fresh clothes. The dirty, blood-stained suit from earlier was gone, replaced by charcoal gray perfection.
But her mind kept drifting back to an hour ago.
To 'Her Rose.'
Cassandra had only managed to sleep for one hour on that couch in Rose's living room.
But it had been enough.
The wolfsbane had worked its way through her system, her supernatural healing kicking in once the poison weakened. By the time her eyes had opened again, she was fully recovered.
Strong. Clear-headed. Back to normal.
She'd lain still for a moment, savoring the weight of Rose in her arms. The duo had fallen asleep after that kiss. Cassandra had allowed herself that moment of peace with her Rose in her arms.
Then her phone had rung, shattering the peace.
Lilian had stirred immediately, her eyes blinking open in confusion.
