Chapter 9 - Is That True?

At 11:12pm, Tristan had just arrived at the mansion and he went straight to his room. He felt so tired after a long day of work and then drove Evelyne home.

When he arrived at his room, he saw Victoria who was already fast asleep in their bed. Not wanting to wake her up, he took off his clothes and entered the bathroom to shower.

When the shower was turned on, he just stood still letting the water soak his body while remembering a black car parked on the street in front of Evelyne's house.

The same car that had driven her to the office this morning.

Since he was so sure that it was Daniel's car, he thought that maybe he must be there right now.

Tristan who was supposed to have left at 9:30 had dropped Evelyne off. It turned out that he had only moved the car out of her sight.

He parked it not so far away and kept waiting to see if it was really Daniel or not.

And sure enough, after a long wait the man came out of Evelyne's house and left with his car.

"So you two were really in a relationship all this time behind my back..." he muttered.

His hands clenched into fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white. He hit the bathroom wall so hard, feeling his anger rise as he continued to think about it.

He gritted his teeth in annoyance.

"Why did you choose him when everything was fine before, Eve."

Victoria, who was asleep, woke up to the sound of Tristan hitting the wall. She put on her robe and walked to the bathroom.

"Tristan honey, are you okay? I heard a loud noise from the bathroom. Did you fall?" she asked worriedly.

For a moment he didn't answer her question at all, but finally he opened his mouth. "I'm fine. Go back to sleep, Victoria."

Hearing that answer, Victoria felt a little hesitant. But she knew she couldn't ask Tristan to tell her the truth because she knew her lover so well.

So she lay back down on the bed and tried to go back to sleep.

Tristan himself actually didn't understand why he kept thinking about Evelyne, after meeting her again three months ago. Even though now his life is very perfect with Victoria by his side.

'Now my business is successful, I have a lot of money and all the things I didn't have when I was with her. I'm also very much in love with Victoria after our meeting two years ago and we're about to get married. But why am I...'

He felt like he was betraying his fiancée, but something inside him told him that he couldn't just let Evelyne go.

Tristan wondered if he kept going, was he lying to himself right now?

Not wanting to think about it too much, he finished his shower and went to bed.

On the weekend, Evelyn and Luke went to the Groceries store to shop because in the evening Daniel would be having dinner with them.

She wanted to make a delicious meal that her friend would also like, since he had helped them so much.

"So tonight Uncle Daniel will come and have dinner with us?" asked Luke excitedly.

"Yes, honey. Daniel will come again and have dinner with us."

Luke looked so happy, he pushed the trolley with a smile on his face. Evelyne was also happy to see him. Especially since her son liked Daniel so much.

"Mommy, can I buy seaweed flavored chips? Uncle Daniel likes them too! We can eat together!" asked Luke while pulling his mother's shirt.

"Of course, honey."

They walked to the snack area and had some snacks. For some reason, she felt like someone had been watching them all along.

She stood up from where she was taking chips from the bottom shelf and looked around them. Evelyne did not find anyone looking at them.

Everyone was busy with their own business.

'That's strange. It feels like someone's been watching all along. Is it just me?' she thought to herself.

She was worried that she would suddenly run into Tristan or anyone they knew and report this to him. Evelyne couldn't let her ex husband know about Luke.

Not when Tristan seemed to be trying to get back at her even though he was about to get married.

"Mommy look, there's a new flavor," the boy said.

"Luke honey, go pick out your snack and then we'll go home, okay?"

He looked confused because he saw his mother who was calm suddenly looked a bit panicked and in a hurry. Luke who didn't understand anything could only nod his head. He grabbed some chips, biscuits and mini milk and put them in the cart.

Without wasting time they went to the cashier. They left the groceries store and went home.

In the evening she started cooking dinner and at 7:00pm, Daniel came to her house.

Luke welcomed him with great excitement. He even jumped up and hugged the man.

"Uncle Daniel, you finally came! I've been waiting for you. Today Mommy made grilled fish! It smells so good!" he said.

He continued to talk about what she had cooked, talking non stop with a big smile on his face. Daniel smiled as he listened to him.

He was used to listening to everything Luke had to say. Ever since they met, Luke had been close to him because he felt he had the father figure he needed.

Once they were finally in front of the kitchen door, Daniel saw Evelyne who was still busy cooking. Her brown hair was rolled up on top of her head, she was still wearing her apron with a short dress.

The grilled fish she was cooking was finally done, Evelyne took the fish out and turned to him.

"Daniel, you've arrived. It's just in time because I just finished cooking. Can you wait for a moment because I need to change my clothes?" she asked.

"Yes, of course."

She walked out of the kitchen, making Daniel keep an eye on her. Because when he saw her take the fish out of the oven, he felt like he had a wife who was both beautiful and a good cook.

Evelyne was quite talented in some ways, which was why he had admired her so much since they were teenagers.

He had been disappointed when he found out that Evelyne was married to Tristan, but now they were separated.

He was angry when he know Tristan divorced Evelyne when she was pregnant with his child. She seems to have to raise a child alone, without even the father figure that the child needs.

Tristan, on the other hand, had a new fiancée and they were about to get married, not knowing about her difficulties.

'You have wasted her, Tristan. Too stupid to even throw her away, when she loved you so much. But I am grateful. Because maybe this is the destiny that brought me to be with her.'
