Chapter 11 - You Have No Right to Control Me

The next morning, Evelyne woke up early because she intended to go for a morning run. Considering that Daniel was still at her house and was now sleeping in Luke's room, she intended to go for a morning run while buying food for the three of them to have for breakfast.

Since she returned to the city three months ago, Evelyne had not had the chance to explore her own neighborhood because she was always busy with work.

That morning she felt the air was so fresh, it was soothing. Lately her mind had been a little chaotic because of her reunion with Tristan.

But she didn't want that to get in the way of her work and earning money to support Luke.

'I have to focus. It's all for Luke's sake, even if it hurts me for his future. He is far more valuable than anything i have right now,' she thought as she caught her breath while jogging along the side of the road.

The passing cars were still fairly sparse since it was only 5:55 a.m. As she ran, she enjoyed the fresh air of the big city.

Not far from where she stood, she caught the scent of freshly baked bread. Her stomach immediately growled when she smelled it, and she thought she would buy some after she finished running for breakfast.

As she paused in a park to do some exercises, she saw a middle aged woman who looked like she needed help.

"She keeps looking down, what is she looking for?" Evelyne muttered.

As she narrowed her eyes to look around the middle aged woman, she realized that the woman was looking for her glasses.

Since Evelyne had found them first, she helped her by picking up the glasses and returning them.

"Excuse me, ma'am. I think these are your glasses," she said softly as she handed them over.

The woman turned around and put on her glasses. "Oh, thank you—"

She didn't finish her sentence, instead she stared intently at Evelyne, which surprised her. It wasn't because of her gaze, but because she recognized the middle aged woman standing in front of her.

"Edna," she said.

"You! What are you doing back in this town, you unlucky woman! Didn't I tell you to get as far away from this town as possible so you wouldn't have to see my son again!" she snapped at Evelyne.

The woman turned out to be Edna Everhart, Tristan's mother or Evelyne's former mother in law, who kept calling her unlucky.

"About that, I..."

"Oh, I know! I know you're just like that snake woman, planning to come back and mess up Tristan's life again! You must have heard that he's now a billionaire, and you want to crawl back to him?!" Edna accused her, pointing at Evelyne's face.

She warned her not to try to come back into Tristan's life again. Especially since he already had Victoria with him, and Edna didn't want Tristan's life to be ruined like it was before.

"You're nothing but bad luck for my family!"

The middle aged woman continued to mocking her, causing Evelyne to clench her fists tightly, because she felt annoyed that the woman had always treated her like that.

At that moment, she immediately cut Edna off.

"Enough, Edna! You have no right to control my life now because I am no longer your daughter in law! Maybe in the past I couldn't say something like this, but now I can."

She replied to each of her words right in front of her face and emphasized that she was not a jinxes for Tristan's life.

The brown haired woman stared back sharply at Edna as she walked closer. This made Edna look even more frightened now.

"And this town doesn't belong to you! I can come back anytime I want. And remember this well, I have no intention of returning to Tristan's life again," she said firmly.

"Not now, not ever!"

That same morning, Tristan was having breakfast with Victoria at his mansion. They lived with several servants who waited on them.

While they were eating, someone ran into the dining room and approached Tristan.

"Tristan! Tristan!" she called out in a panic. It was none other than Edna.

She immediately grabbed her son's arm and told him what had happened outside that morning.

At first, he and Victoria were confused, because Edna came home looking panicked and half in tears.

"What's wrong, mother? Why do you look so panicked? Did someone bother you?" he asked in surprise.

"Tristan, that jinxed woman is back! She's back again to ruin your life!" Edna said, roaring at him.

"Jinxed? Who are you talking about, Madam Edna?" asked Victoria, looking worried as she rubbed her shoulder.

Of course, she replied that the woman she was referring to was Evelyne. The woman who was always considered a bringer of bad luck. From the beginning, she had never liked Evelyne's relationship with Tristan.

She thought the woman was poor and an orphan. She would only hinder her son and take advantage of him.

Hearing his mother's report, which always seemed exaggerated, Tristan could only take a deep breath and respond calmly.

"I already knew she was back in town, and I told you to stop calling her that," he said firmly but still softly.

"You knew?! Then why didn't you say anything to me! Why did you let her come back to this town?" Edna pulled on his sleeve and shook him.

Victoria, who witnessed this, didn't know what to say because she didn't understand what was going on. She didn't even know which Evelyn they were talking about and what her relationship with Tristan was.

"Mother, stop it! You always overreact whenever you see her!" He removed his mother's hands from his arm and asked the servant to take her to her room.

The man sighed in frustration and ruffled his hair. He really didn't like it when his mother called Evelyne that. He had never liked his mother saying bad things about her.

"Honey, what's wrong with your mother? Who is she talking about? Is Evelyne your secretary?" asked Victoria, confused.

He turned and shook his head. "Nothing. You can continue your breakfast. I have to take care of something in my office."

"But..." Victoria knew he was hiding something from her, but once again Tristan didn't want to talk about it.

He kissed her cheek briefly and then left her alone, full of questions. She was certain that Evelyne was her fiancé's new secretary.

Ever since he hired her, she felt that Tristan had been acting a little differently.

"What exactly is the history between Tristan and Evelyne?"
