CHAPTER 5
Third Person POV:
Once they got most of the long-lasting snacks, they stuffed them in a bag and walked up to the door. But... as they tried to open it, it wouldn't budge one bit.
They both gave each other an annoyed look as Perry sat on a nearby desk and looked at the other boy with irritation.
"You can just bust the door down by kicking it… not like anyone cares about the door," Christian stated.
Although Perry had already thought of the idea, it would be quite noisy if she did so.
"Can't. If you care about getting eaten by those zombies, then there's no way I'm doing that. It'll attract a lot of those things,"
she replied, already having considered the option and dismissing it. "Fine…" Christian gave in, and they stayed quiet. There was a deafening silence in the air until they heard the door open.
They saw Ruby and Nicole standing there.
"We got worried since it took a while…" Nicole stated, rubbing the back of his neck, smiling nervously, and oddly avoiding eye contact.
First Person POV (Perry):
"Ah... thanks," I replied, looking at him. I smiled slightly, passed them, and exited the room.
But as I was walking to the other room, I saw a horde of zombies coming this way and immediately turned back, informing the other three.
"Guys, out the window. Now. There's a horde of zombies outside," I said.
But then Ruby stated, "There isn't any window in this classroom. Let's go to the other one."
She was right, but I looked back at the horde of zombies, then back at them. I shook my head at the idea, entered the room, and shut the door.
"They're too close to this classroom, and they already blocked the other one," I said, walking up to a desk and sitting down on it.
"Well, are we just going to stay here and wait for the zombies to catch up to us?" Questioned Christian.
"Well, the only choice is to beat them. We have guns with us, so don't worry," I said. But apparently—
"I left mine in the other classroom, as well as Nicole," Ruby stated. Christian nodded in agreement.
". . .Alright, I have mine, though," I stated, taking a pistol out.
"If you guys don't have a gun, get anything sharp or a weapon."
I quietly opened the door slightly, peeking out. I closed it and looked back at them. "They're only about five feet away, so hurry."
I walked to the back of the classroom and took a ready stance, aiming at the door in case they either knocked it down or opened it. We didn't know how intelligent or smart they were.
We only knew that they could hear perfectly well—maybe even better—but that they couldn't see anything. It was better to be safe than sorry later.
The others grabbed anything that could be used as a weapon—random objects scattered around the room.
For example, Ruby took a pocket knife that happened to be in the first aid kit, with some kind of luck. Like—who in hell would put a knife in a first aid kit?
I understand it's a military training school, but… she's got some miracle luck. As for Christian, he had taken a chair… and Nicole? He took a crowbar that, oddly enough, had been leaning against the wall near the whiteboard.
We heard the groans coming from the zombies—getting closer to the door.
Next thing, they were banging on it, and the door was irritatingly weak. It broke. They got in. Christian was the first to attack, slamming a few zombies with the chair. Ruby stepped in, cutting off some of their heads, which was somehow easier than cutting a human head.
I then stepped in and shot a few in the head. Nicole also took action after me, slamming a few. As we were fighting, one of them managed to creep behind Christian. In order for a bullet to not go through him, he had to move.
"Christian, duck!" I shouted at him.
He obeyed, ducking, and I aimed, instantly shooting the zombie. That was the last one. It fell to the ground, hitting its head with a thump sound. We all sat down, catching our breaths—except me, who was using a gun.
Once we recovered, we retreated back to the original classroom and got our backpacks and guns. "We should probably evacuate, since the gunshots would attract more zombies here," Nicole stated.
Then, we all agreed and exited the classroom, quietly closing the door behind us.We turned corner after corner, exiting the building without making much noise.
We did it safely. Cautiously, we walked through the city, trying to find a house that zombies wouldn't come out of and where we wouldn't hear groaning. As we searched, one house stood out. It was eerily still. We thought about spending the night there—camping for a while. But the night was passing quickly.
It was already 5 AM—only about an hour until the sun came out. Most of the time we spent inside the school had been taken up by fighting zombies. About an hour, since they were pretty hard to kill. We decided to keep moving.
We stopped by a nearby mall and entered a restaurant.
There was absolutely no one inside. Just complete silence—only our footsteps and the occasional breeze rustling objects. We settled in a cafeteria-like area inside the restaurant and took some seats. Since we had a separate bag for food and water, we took out some snacks. But as I reached in to grab one, Christian did as well. We grabbed the same snack.
Oh boy.
"I grabbed it first," he said, pulling it toward him. But I obviously wasn't giving in so easily.
I snatched it from him. "No, I did." He tried to take it back, but I put it away.
He gave me the cold shoulder and searched the bag for another one. Ironically, that was the only one in the bag.
"Give it to me. I'm better, stronger, smarter, cooler, and a lot more," he said, giving me a cold stare, trying to intimidate me. Honestly, it was just a funny look.
"And how is that a valid reason?" I crossed my arms, looking at him, completely unfazed. "I have equal rights to food even if I'm dumber and weaker, idiot."
Ruby and Nicole were watching us bicker, barely holding in their annoyance.
"I'm not asking again. Give it to me," Christian said, leaning in closer for. . . who knows what.
"Yeah, like hell I'm just going to give it to you," I stated, pushing him away and opening the snack.
"Oh, come on. Just give it. Stop being so stubborn—I hate when people are stubborn." Christian looked pretty irritated now, but I wasn't giving my food up to a scum like him.
"So, you're stating that you hate yourself, right?" That moment, Ruby and Nicole burst out laughing, despite their prior irritation. Christian and I both looked at them—wearing the same annoyed expression.
"Whatever," we both said in sync. At this point, I wasn't even surprised. I glanced at the duo, still dying of laughter.
"I guess you can have some," I said, offering Christian a portion.
He smiled like a kid. Which was kinda cute— No. What the hell? It's not cute. Not at all. Anyways, he appreciated it without complaining much, and we both ate, while Ruby and Nicole still laughed—for some odd reason.
Ah…
Anyway, we'll most likely stay here until we decide to move. I hope none of us get bitten. Even that guy.
Sigh. For now, I'm gonna eat and rest a bit. Didn't get any sleep. I'm pretty sure none of us did.
