Chapter 9 - Supermarket, enemies and friends pt.3.

CHAPTER 9

But… before we could set off, a bunch of zombies broke through the glass door at the front and were slowly approaching us...

I, as of instinct, looked around and to our left, saw a few aisles. To our right, there was a control room with all the access to the security cameras and electricity. I tapped their shoulders.

"Guys, let's go to the control room before they reach us," I said.

They nodded, and we left for the control room with our things. But, to our surprise, it was locked. Or maybe not very surprising, but still.

There was a window at the top near the ceiling, and there was a table counter thing near the door, which was aligned perfectly to the window on top.

"Why don't I stand on it and try getting in?" I asked.

"I guess it's worth a try..." said Christian. The other two nodded, and I got up on the counter thing and peeped inside the room. My eyes widened.

I almost lost balance. I went side to side a few times before balancing. But something I noticed was Christian getting ready to catch me. I chuckled silently to myself.

"You good, shitty face?" he asked.

"I'm good," I said, getting down from there.

"Well, shocking or not, there are survivors in that room, and somehow we have to get their attention to let us inside before we die."

They all gave me a look, and after that...

"How though?" Nicole asked.

"We definitely can't bang on the window. All that'll do is attract the zombies in our direction," Ruby stated.

I nodded. "Let's try sliding a note under the door?"

We all looked at him, surprised he came up with such an idea. He seemed like the idiot in the group, if I'm being completely honest.

"Damn, you got brain cells?" I asked and chuckled, along with Ruby and Nicole.

But then, we got serious and had to act fast to survive. Ruby and Nicole went to a nearby aisle to check for a notepad and markers, while me and Christian were on guard, watching them attentively from a few meters away.

Once they returned, I wrote a note that said,

"Dear survivors, please let us in as we might die if we stay out here any longer. - From other survivors outside, who are gonna die. Please let us in."

We waited outside for about 5 minutes before the door opened, and we saw a teenage-looking boy open the door.

"Come in," he said. His voice was demanding and quite deep, if I'm being honest.

We cautiously entered the room, looking around. There were about 5 other people sitting at a table near the TV, watching the supermarket on the security cameras.

"How long have you guys been alone?" a girl with light pink highlights and light blue hair asked. She was pretty.

"How old are you all?" another girl asked.

"Have you guys been bitten?" asked another guy.

"Well... we've been only with each other since this started. And, we're all 18. No, we're not bitten. Don't worry," I answered.

I was one person who didn't want to talk a lot, but I had to. I answered all the questions at once, hoping they wouldn't ask anymore. And gladly, they didn't. They all nodded, but I noticed they gave us a skeptical look every minute or two.

But then one of them spoke up.

"I'm Emily. This is Alice, Nathan, Damian, and Millie."

The one who spoke, Emily, she was the one with light blue hair and light pink highlights. Emily had light green eyes.

As for the girl next to her, Alice, she had dark, almost blackish-brown hair and light brown eyes. A casual T-shirt and jeans.

Then there was Nathan with black hair, dark brown eyes, and a casual fit. To keep the appearances short, Damian had dyed dark blue hair and grey eyes. As for Millie, she had blonde hair and darkish green eyes.

Well, that would be all to their appearances, and all of them were the same age as us. So basically a bunch of high schoolers in this situation. This was definitely not how I visualized how this situation would go. But honestly, nothing happens the way we think, so may as well go along with it, rather than resisting fate.

It was eerily quiet in the room, and none of us spoke. But it seemed that the group of high schoolers came here for a specific, and only one reason: to get food and water. Or maybe just supplies, you know? Ah, well, I wasn't offering them anything. Neither were Christian, Nicole, and Ruby. They were discussing something, but we honestly didn't pay attention, as they were talking to only each other and not us.

Me and the other three were just in one corner, doing our own things. I was talking to Nicole, while Ruby and Christian were honestly... don't know what they were doing. I think they were just checking out some papers on a table counter nearby.

We waited about 10 minutes (didn't really wait, we were just doing our own thing), and one of the guys, who I believe was Nathan, spoke up.

"Okay, so me and my friends have decided that we need to take turns and go out, attempting to get as much food and water as possible. It's up to you four if you want to join in with us."

That guy, Nathan, he basically invited us to a death wish. We all shook our heads and smiled nervously... kind of friendly-looking, I guess...

"We'll pass..." Nicole spoke up.

They thankfully respected our decision, and I think Emily and Nathan, they both were getting ready to face the zombies outside, aka just putting on gloves and another layer of clothing. We watched with a neutral look, and honestly got bored and I guess, went back to whatever the hell we were doing.

The pair, Emily and Nathan, both got ready, wearing gloves and another thick layer of clothing, and took some helmets out of whoever knows where, and put them on. And don't get me wrong, I was observing for a bit too long that they noticed me staring for a longer duration than needed.

"Cat got your tongue?" spoke Nathan.

Damn. He was A LOT ruder than he seemed. By the looks of it, he could be better than Christian. Not saying Christian is any less annoying or anything.

So, I just gave what I thought was a friendly smile, but it looked shook according to Ruby... but I just shook off the insult... or whatever it was.

"No, I just don't speak useless words to people like you," I replied.

Obviously, or maybe not obviously, Nicole and Ruby gave me a look, which I could read 'DAMNN' all over it. I just said whatever had to be said.

But anyways, the Nathan guy just scoffed and didn't say anymore. He and Emily walked out the door, just to be...
