Chapter 5 - A mistake never to be made

The morning lesson began. I couldn't stop looking at Wit ever since he walked in. Damn! I tend to forget how beautiful my wife is, I thought to myself, smiling like an idiot—until suddenly, I got slapped on the head."Umm! Ai Khwai (idiot), stop looking at Kit like you want to eat him," Max said as he retreated to his seat after slapping me.

Max laughed at me so hard the professor finally had to stop him."Ai Wit, looking at Kit like that won't make him see your love for him," Max said, shaking his head with a mix of disbelief and frustration, as if explaining to someone hopelessly confused."Ai Wit! Let's say I help you win Kit's heart; will you introduce us to those beautiful girls from the company you were modelling for?" he teased, raising his eyebrows playfully.

I immediately agreed before Khai could change his mind. Khai laughed at me because of how desperate I was to win Kit's love.I told Khai to shut up and listen to what the professor was saying, since they were tired of him always asking what she was saying. Max laughed so much he even forgot about the professor.

The professor asked what was so funny that it disturbed her lesson. He told her it was nothing and apologized. She warned him next time to keep any funny thoughts to himself until after the lesson. Then she turned and continued the lecture, leaving Max in an embarrassing silence.

He sat quietly — unlike the talkative guy we all knew. Even during break, he stayed quiet until the girl he used to have a crush on passed by. Suddenly, he started smiling, and we were all confused.

When we turned around, we saw the girl. We immediately told him to stop whatever he was thinking — she had a boyfriend."Why? Just because she has a boyfriend doesn't mean she loves him. And since when has having a boyfriend stopped me from hitting on a girl?" he said confidently, folding his hands together.

"Ohh! That's true, but this time it's different," I said, placing a hand on his shoulder."How so?" he asked, confused."She's dating P'Zee, one of the seniors. You don't want to start beef with the seniors, do you?" I said, hoping he'd listen, but Max is Max.

If he sets his mind on something, he won't stop no matter what happens."Umm! I won't, I know my limits," he said, picking up his phone from the table.

As we talked, the seniors sent a message saying they would have a meeting in three hours, and everyone was expected to attend.

Lunch was over and we all went to class for the second session. The session had just begun when Lay suddenly became sick, showing signs of an allergic reaction.

It was because of the food that P'Pam gave to some girls from P'New's class to give to P'Pharm, but they couldn't find him, so they gave it to Lay instead. Being a foodie, Lay ate the snacks instead of passing them on to P'Pharm.

Kit called P'New to tell him about Lay's condition, and P'New immediately took P'Pharm and rushed to the hospital. When they arrived, the doctor was still examining her.

After finishing, the doctor explained it was an allergic reaction, probably caused by something she ate. They would have to wait for the blood test results to be sure.

P'Pharm asked Kit and Som if Lay had eaten anything with peanuts. They said the only thing she ate was the food given by some girls from P'New's class to give to P'Pharm.

An hour passed before the doctor came back with the results. He told them he found traces of peanuts in her system, which caused the reaction."Doctor, will she be alright?" P'Pharm asked, his eyes teary and fear covering his face."She's okay. You don't have to worry. Her friends did a great job bringing her in before it was too late," the doctor reassured.

P'New stepped outside to make some calls to find out who the girls were."Ai New! We asked around and found out that Pam gave the snacks to those girls to give to Pharm," said an anonymous voice on the phone."Okay, thanks for your help," he said, hanging up and signaling P'Pharm to come outside.

"What's wrong?" P'Pharm asked, seeing the annoyed expression on P'New's face."I just got off the phone with a friend who said Pam was the one who gave the snacks," he said angrily."Let's go talk to her. I'll ask Kit and Som to look after Lay while I'm gone," P'New said as he went back into the ward to inform them.

P'New and P'Pharm went to meet the girls to find out exactly what happened."Pam told us to give the food to P'Pharm. We didn't know it had peanuts," they said, assuring them they had no intention to cause harm.

They returned to the hospital and found Lay awake. P'Pharm was so relieved — if anything had happened to her, it would have broken him. Lay meant everything to him; she was the only little sister he had.

Kit missed the senior meeting but reported he had to go to the hospital. After the meeting, we went to check on them."P'Pharm! If there's anything we can do to help, please let us know. We'll gladly help," I said, smiling as I placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Pharm doesn't need anything. How can he be short of anything when his boyfriend is with him?" he said, removing my hand and pulling P'Pharm close."He doesn't, but I do. Ai Wit! Does helping include buying me snacks?" Lay teased, not letting the opportunity pass.

Everyone laughed, glad she was feeling better.

"Oh! By the way, have you guys seen Pam around campus before you came here?" P'New asked, hoping for some clue."No, we haven't. Why do you ask?" we replied, confused."Pam was the one who gave the snacks to the girls to give to Pharm," he explained.

To be honest, it wasn't hard for us to believe — we all knew her well enough to guess she'd do something like that.
