She laughed, thinking she had misheard me. "Did he agree to be your boyfriend?" she asked, slightly tilting her head as she raised her left brow. I didn't know how to answer her question, so I tried to change the topic so many times, but she kept circling back to it.
"Oi~~~~ This is so annoying. Wit, why can't you just tell Grandma that you chicken out every time you see him? Why do you always ask Wit when he will bring Kit to meet you, but never ask me when I'll be bringing your grandson-in-law to meet you?" She threw the pillow she was holding onto the couch and pouted, folding her hands together.
"That's right. Grandma, have you met Phi May's boyfriend? He's super handsome and very caring. He always takes good care of me whenever I go out with them," I replied, my eyes widening with excitement, a smile flashing across my face.
"She has a boyfriend?" she asked, her eyes wide with shock at what she just heard. I nodded, leaving her speechless. Grandma couldn't believe her ears. Phi May—the very same girl who was always at odds with boys from her school just because they flirted with her—was now dating.
The sun must have risen in the west.
"Ohhh! Grandma, what is with that expression? It's not like I always fought with everyone who hit on me," she replied, her eyes wide as she drew back, clutching her chest dramatically. "And besides, this one is different. He takes good care of me."
Her eyes flickered, lips pressing into a thin line as if she regretted her reaction. She sighed, leaning forward with a grin, then paused, smiling sheepishly.
"Plus, Wit approves of him."
Her eyes narrowed into sharp slits, lips pressed into a thin, unwavering line. The slight furrow between her brows gave her face a serious, almost skeptical edge—like she was silently demanding proof. Her gaze was steady and piercing, making it clear that there was no room for nonsense or lies. Then she stood up and went to her room.
I threw a mini heart at P'May for saving me. She caught it, threw it on the ground, stomped on it, then went to her room.
It was time for dinner. With Grandma here, everyone was on time for dinner, unlike when she isn't home. This worked in my favor since I usually have to eat alone whenever I'm home.
Everyone is always busy. Mom owns a top jewelry company with international branches, meaning she is always away on business. Same with Dad; he owns the second-best tech company in Thailand, so he is also very busy and hardly home. Let's not mention P'May—she has been away ever since she finished high school. She owns a production company with many well-known bands. She started it when she was in high school just to support her best friend's dream, and she made it big. I was so surprised to see her stay in Thailand this long but later found out it was because of her boyfriend.
Then there is Daonuea; she is doing her final year in middle school but acts like a final-year med student. She spends all her time studying and watching medical documentaries. She even knows everything at a university level, some of which I didn't know when I was her age.
Dinner was over; I went to my room to sleep. Before sleeping, I called Max and Khai to check how their double date went.
"Damn! It was so tiring. We had to follow them all day," he said, forgetting they had lied about where they were really going.
I was confused and shocked at the same time; this was my first time hearing them complain about a girl.
"Ai Khai, what were you really doing that made you complain like this?" I asked, trying to figure out what the girl made them do to make them complain like that.
"Same old stuff, accompanying them shopping and carrying their bags. Anyway, we're feeling sleepy, talk tomorrow," he replied before hanging up.
"Ai Max, I really feel bad for lying to Wit. Maybe we should tell him about Kit and P'New," he said, feeling guilty about lying to me.
"But we can't tell him without enough evidence. What if we tell him and find out it's quite the opposite of what we thought? We can't risk making them hate each other again, not after all it took for him to get on Kit's good side," he replied, trying to convince Khai to keep it a secret until they found proof.
The next morning, I tiptoed out of the house before Grandma could see me. I arrived at my dorm, took a shower, and went to Max and Khai's rooms. When I got there, I found them waiting for me with creepy smiles on their faces that freaked the sh*t out of me.
"What do you want?" I asked, my eyebrows shooting up in exasperation, knitting together like storm clouds about to burst. My eyes narrowed, heavy-lidded with disbelief, as if I'd just been sentenced to eternal patience. My lips pressed so tight they looked ready to snap, jaw clenched like a vice. I let out a long, theatrical sigh—half frustration, half resignation—while my body stiffened, bracing for the inevitable barrage of requests.
"There is this girl—"
"No," I replied before they could even finish the sentence. I knew what they wanted to say, and I didn't want to get involved. I had just gotten on Kit's good side; I couldn't make him misunderstand me. I was not going to agree to their idea… or would I?
We were at the mall. They tried all means to make me talk, but I was not going to talk until we went back.
