Rick and Mrs. Rick were celebrating about the achievement of giving birth.
'I'm going to be a daddy', Rick thought to himself as his perferial vision proved different.
The doctors seemed to hold a strong face about the situation.
Rick felt confused, tapping his wife on the leg and pointing towards the doctors direction.
Soon, one of the doctors approached them.
"Sorry to inform but there is a problem. The child did not cry so there is no proof that he is alive", the doctors told them.
Rick was devastated. The son that he had to stay in the hospital for months could as well be dead.
He then asked the doctor to do whatever he could to revive their child.
The doctors hyphotesised that the inappropriate movement of the baby plus the fact that the baby was given birth to prematurely caused this sudden inadequacy.
The doctors began attempting to revive back the baby but none of the attempts worked.
It was at that moment that the doctors concluded that the child was no longer responding.
"The child, according to our tests has not responded. So we conclude that the child might be dead", one of the doctors in attendance said.
Rick could not handle the information. The thought of losing a child that they had craved for about two years was devastating.
He soaked in grief as Mrs. Rick laid on the bed holding the non-response baby in her arms.
One of the doctors who had decided for whatever reason to check on the baby again, recorded some strange pulse from the arm of the baby.
There was still hope, could the baby still be alive.
He called on the other doctors while he encouraged the parents to leave the room so as to perform operations.
Rick left the room with worry while Mrs. Rick was not allowed to leave due to her situation of labour.
Mrs. Rick fell silent while the doctors began to check the pulse and heart beat of the child.
Mrs. Rick seemed to be so stress and anxious that the doctors had to call Rick back into the labour room.
Rick watched as the doctors checked their son carefully while he held unto his wife's hand without a glinch.
It took about two hours of constant check ups that the doctors came to Rick for an answer.
"He is alive", the doctor told Rick with some signs of disbelief.
It had never being recorded of when a baby had not cried but lived to breath and respirate.
He had never experienced such a situation in his time as a doctor.
The situation was so unbelievable that Rick jumped for joy and began celebrating.
The noise woke up Mrs. Rick as well as brought other doctors and nurses into the scene.
The doctors queried about what had happened and were told that a baby had just survived nearly certain death.
Rick while celebrating still had a few problems of his own.
His death pronounced to him by his wife was so shocking to hear even up to that day.
He had already lost Colg in his time in the union as well as one of his siblings. His younger sister, Daria.
He would not have bared to lose either his wife or his only child no matter the circumstance.
Seeing his wife in a coma for months only to wake up and begin telling stories of her experience in an alternative universe, which she described as a dark void was disturbing enough but the more he kept thinking about the words of his wife, the more desperated he got.
'Was he truly going to die. Leave his wife and child alone to suffer?', Rick asked himself which ofcourse he had no answer to.
Part of him felt it as a side effect of the coma as all the books he read never clarified his experience.
Another part though, did not feel the same way. He felt like it was said with sincerety; more or less in a way that if she did not see it, she won't believe it.
Rick was then handed the baby by Mrs. Rick as he watched the baby wallow away in his arms.
Spit gushed out of the baby's mouth as the baby finally began to shed tears.
No sound, no frown just water slowly dropping from the eyes of the child as Rick played with him softly thinking it was a normal thing when in reality it wasn't.
When the doctors found out, they checked the baby again to make sure that the child was okay and again proved positive for self survival.
That baby was like a living legend at that point.
Mrs. Rick had to stay in the hospital for a week as almost every day, the doctors ran checks on the child and her as well.
Rick was usually in the labour room supporting his wife and their child as most of the time, they held hands tightly hoping for no more bad news centered around this family.
Finally, after the one week of frequent tests and checkups they carried the baby back home and received some celebrations from their neighbours.
That night when Rick was coming back from the hospital during evening side of the day with his wife in the back wallowing her way with the baby.
Their neighbours soon put out lights and banners everywhere, many which said 'So happy for your birth'.
The two rushed out of the car with the baby in hand and began congratulating and shaking everyone on the block.
"So happy for you", was the word most hearted by Rick and Mrs. Rick as they made their way into the car and drove back home.
After that experience, a few neighbours took Rick and his wife with the child along with them to a local restaurant so that they can get something to eat.
The baby was ofcourse shared around to different people during the neighbourhood celebration as crowd gathered as if they were about to watch a wrestling match.
The restaurant was no different. It was late so they didn't stay for long but it felt like everyone they passed by congratulated them for the birth and longed to carry their baby.
Some of this because the area they live was known for people to associate with each other.
It was at the restaurant that another problem hit Rick in the head like a stray bullet.
"The dedication ceremony is tomorrow right", one of the neighbours who went out with them enquired.
Rick and Mrs. Rick remained silent.
They had never even thought of the dedication ceremony which had to be carried out tomorrow.
They just assured them that it will be operated tomorrow and soon opted to leave the restaurant. They paid, and left the restaurant back to the neighbourhood where they again got showered with gifts and blessings.
As they got home, they refused to sleep. They queried everywhere for seats, tables, foods and drinks to bring along to the dedication ceremony.
The venue was also yet to be comfirmed.
