Chapter 7 - DEDICATION DAY

Rick and Mrs. Rick were so busy with the hospital time that they did not even notice or consider the dedication.

As already mentioned, all night they were asking for drinks, food and many other things that they could bring to the table of the dedication.

Very early in the morning, they also visited a few neighbours uninvited and begged them for help, one of them being Thomas, the man who asked about the dedication in the first place.

Bam Bam Bam

Rick slammed in on the iron gate. It was a brown gate that was banged up and looked as if it had survived the world war.

Rick looked stale as Thomas opened the gate for both and invited them into the house.

Thomas lived in a bungalow alone.

He did not have a wife as he felt like a woman companion might interfere with his actions.

As usual, he was brought down for his actions but stuck to his word and belief.

Thomas was one of the only persons who witnessed the couple move into the neighbourhood.

He staged the party for Rick and Mrs. Rick as they were new to the neighbourhood and had just gotten married.

It did not take long for Rick and his wife to soon find comfort in the neighbourhood as they enjoyed every bit of it.

"Come in. Come in", Thomas said twice as he gestured for them to enter.

Mrs. Rick sat down holding the baby while Rick stood beside her.

"So what's up--", Thomas was then cut half way as Rick suddenly began speaking.

He explained to him that they needed help with the dedication ceremony and knew that he would be one of the most willing to provide it.

Thomas widened his eyes and raised his eyebrows.

The sight of the child and the knowledge of what they had passed through to give birth urged him to say yes, even though his body said no.

He called an MC who had retired a few years ago.

"Yello. Pls we are looking for an MC for an immediate dedication ceremony. Can you comply?", Thomas asked with a soft calm voice hoping for a positive reply.

Then on the other end as calmly as he could, said no and responded that he had retired from that job a long time ago.

As almost all hope was lost and the man was about to cut the call, Rick stormed out in anger.

It was a sudden moment of frustration.

All things in his life seemed to be banking left when he wanted it to bank right.

He was immediately calmed down by his wife and their child as what seemed impossible soon showed to them as a phone call.

The man on the other line, Velmont immediately recognised the voice as Rick from the union. He was quick to conclusions as Rick usually shouted a lot and some of it was directed towards him. The voice of Rick could not be removed from his memory.

Thomas was brought back into the realization of the call and after a while handed the phone to Rick.

"He wants to speak to you", Thomas said as Rick looked directly into the phone and at a glance could not recognise the number.

"Who is this", Rick then said directly into to the screen of the phone.

He held it as though he had not experienced a gadget all his life.

"Rick, it is you", Velmont over the line said with a side shock on his face.

Rick soon put the phone directly on his ear as he did not want anyone hearing about Velmont as he may give away his secret to Mrs. Rick.

"Eh, I can't hear you. What are you saying", Rick lied as he used the opportunity to leave the room.

"What are you doing as an MC", Rick then scolded him, feeling as though he was still the commander of the union.

Velmont fell furious and began scolding Rick as well and soon a calm talk turned into a heated argument.

Rick stopped in his tracks and held the brakes.

He did not admire the fact that he was arguing with his union member. He also did not want any interruptions from his wife.

He felt like she was going through a lot at the moment.

As Rick discussed the matter of MC with Velmont and struggled to reach a conclusion Mrs. Rick carried all the deliveries of the orders, prepared and packaged them properly and put them in the taxi to drive to the church centre which was planned by Thomas.

Thomas also assisted Mrs. Rick as she did all the work.

Soon enough, Rick came back from chatting with Velmont at the other side of the neighbourhood.

He saw Thomas assisting his wife with the work and so decided to lend a helping hand.

Thomas had always been the best neighbour that a couple could afford to get.

He worked tirelessly day and night and gave most of the funding to his neighbours including Rick and Mrs. Rick.

At that moment he wore nothing but a gray short with nothing on top.

His shirt was laid above his shoulders.

Rick grabbed the rest of the supplies and put them in the car.

Rick drove himself and his wife to the venue as Thomas invited as many people as he could from the neighbourhood.

It did not take long for Rick and his wife to reach the venue and they saw Velmont standing at the gate. He urged Mrs. Rick to go inside while he and Velmont would pack out the things and items from the car.

"Is this the MC you hired", Mrs. Rick exclaimed with a shrugged face as though feeling that he was not the right man for the job.

"The one and only", was then proudly announced by Velmont.

"You can leave now", Rick told his wife as he pushed her on the back.

Mrs. Rick felt as though something was wrong with Rick. He had never felt so sketchy in all his life.

She knew something was wrong and had a feeling that Velmont would get her to the answer.

She was never the one to let things go. The dark void incident still lingered in both her and Rick's mind up till that moment.

Soon enough, Thomas came holding bags of souvenirs with hundreds of people walking in behind him.

As soon as he spotted Rick and Mrs. Rick, he told them the good news.

"I was able to find so many people to invite to the party.

Including hiring these two local and known pastors from our neighbourhood", Thomas said shielding his eyes under the blaring sun.

Velmont wearing a track suit from the union as well as Thomas sweating profusely on the short and shirt that he decided to wear, all walked into the party.

'How on earth did we pull this off', Rick muttered to himself. Looking at Thomas, provided him the answer.
