Chapter 3 - Death

We talked for a short while afterwards, just them making jokes and ensuring that im okay really. By the time they had left, the sun had disappeared and in its place, the moon gazed down. A lot of the panic that I had is gone now. It's good they came, our meeting gave me some good information to go off of.

It seems like I was some sort of mercenary in a party with those two. The girls name was Elaine but the man had the rather odd name of Drought, though I guess it does suite his irregular appearance. My injuries seem to have been caused by something that happened on the mission that both of them disagreed with me taking which could mean that investigating that mission could give me a clue on how to regain my memories.

Im still unsure on two things though:

1. Why they disagreed with me taking the mission; their expressions were too enthused when I said I wouldn't take one like it again. Finding what the mission was should give me an answer.

2. What made me lose my memories; though im sure it happened on the mission, I have no injuries on my head yet I have a blinding headache and can't remember a thing. My only guess would be some sort of mystical happening. The man named Drought seemed to be carrying some sort of glass ball with no other weapon on him and so it is my assumption that since a glass ball would likely shatter if used as a blunt melee weapon, it may be a medium for an otherworldly force. If this assumption is correct, I could reasonably say that my memory loss was due to an unnatural power invading my mind.

Okay.

I'll keep going like this.

I'll keep piecing the world together.

Bit by bit.

I dont need memories.

I just need information.

I wonder if there's a library nearby? Actually I wonder what kind of place im in at all.

A village? A town? A city? Maybe just a random building.

If i want an answer, I'll have to leave this place.

I step, stumble and stride towards the door but as my palm hovers over the handle, I freeze.

As it stands right now the world that I could walk out into is completely unknown. It isn't fear thats stopping me, but rather a childish sense of wonder that I want to hold on to. Anything could be out there.

All I can think is that the world behind that door is infinite.

Then it dawns on me.

I smile as I turn the handle and step into infinity.
