Chapter 7 - what I've learned

Nearby the book on sigilism. I found another book named "Aether" it has a purple hardcover and white stitching.

More? Isn't this my lucky day.

Thats enough for now though... I'll find a place to sit down and read.

...

This world is sick.

As I flicked through the pages thats the only thing I could think.

Around three thousand years ago, the world was on the brink of destruction due to lack of resources and global warming. These were due to fueling humanities overwhelming obsession with their own entertainment. Metals and minerals mined to the point they almost didn't exist anymore all to create silly little devices powered by electricity, which im pretty sure is what lightning is made from, all to entertain. The kicker being they would mine something called lithium to create containers for energy which was meant to be environmentally friendly but doing it almost tore a whole in something called the ozone layer. Even crazier is that they would mine the lithium with tools powered by the resource they were trying to replace. By that point, a world leader decided to create a two devices that to this day orbit our planet, Karak. At the beginning, it was carnage. It accurately destroyed every single device that was invented past the industrial revolution (basically just a period where a bunch of inventions were made). Now however, if something is invented that surpass anything before the industrial revolution, the device orbiting the planet destroys a 1km circle surrounding the area. To this day no-one knows how such a powerful device was created and sustains itself.

I think, though quite extreme, that might've been the best idea they could've chosen.

The politics of today aren't anything special. Just disgusting. After the device named the Eden machine was destroyed the state of the world, wealthy families seized control over political power by purchasing large portions of land and creating territories. They raised armies and oppressed those not of powerful bloodlines, thus creating the world hierarchy. However with several families running amok with nothing to restrain them, the world looked for a leader. This crown was eventually placed on the head of the self proclaimed noble Alexander Maher who owned the most land and greatest army making him the most powerful man. A terrible mistake. Power hungry as he was, he imposed heavy taxes on whoever he pleased, mainly peasants and political rivals. He took in several wives and had many children to secure his bloodline forever. This created the great emperor family of Maher.

Revolting.

Backward incestuous pieces of shit.

The world's geography was very simple, Karak is split into 3 large continents: Heit in the north, its a cold and harsh place to live however its still well inhabited. Riboh in the west where I am now, is a lush place with lots of forests and wildlife. Finally, in the south east is monster territory. Completely uninhabited by humans, it's been overrun by incredibly dangerous beasts.

And then, the books I was most excited for. "Sigilism" and "Aether". Sigilism explained that you came harness an already existing power inside of you heart named Astra by engraving a mark onto your own body. You have a choice. 1. You use an already existing sigil which harnesses the power of an already existing God. However your potential is limited to the first engraver. The second, which is fucking crazy, is that you engrave a unique sigil onto yourself which fucking creates a God based on the powers that the sigil grants you. The powers are related to what the sigil grants you for example, if you draw a fire breathing dragon you could get fire powers or dragon morphing or both or a similar ability and create a God that's a fire breathing dragon or something. The gods power relates to the user's power and influence throughout the world. The power is usually weak in the beginning but through understanding of it and experimentation you can increase your power, couple that with your Astra reserves and there's a potential to reach incredible heights.

Aether on the other hand is quite the strange power. Not because of what it is but by how you obtain it. To get Aether, you must gauge out your eyes and pour pure astra through the holes into your brain which converts the Astra into Aether and creates an Aether reserve in your brain. If done successfully, your eyes will regenerate but you'll also gain another set of eyes when you use Aether called the other eyes. The other eyes flip the eye whites and iris' colouring amd remove the pupil only allowing you to feel see Astra and Aether in the air and in people. This is very unpredictable however because the abilities that the other eyes give you are completely random, they could be literally anything.

Okay that was a lot.

I've been here for hours.

Hmm...

I'm gonna hold off on getting the other eyes because... well fuck that to be honest.

So, I should think of what my sigil will look like. Im definitely creating my own.

It should be a reflection of me, of my hunger.

But... why will the moon not leave my mind?
