Chapter 29: A Strange Case
"Why come to me for a murder case?"
William served Gordon a cup of holy water.
Gordon gulped it down in one go.
"Originally, the bureau was handling it, but this case is a bit strange."
According to Gordon, the person who reported the case was a local dignitary in Philadelphia.
He had a good relationship with the higher-ups in the bureau, so the latter made arrangements immediately, mobilizing elites to handle the scene.
The officers in charge weren't rookies either; they all speculated that this was a "partisan struggle" incident.
For such cases, the most appropriate way to handle them was: let your position determine your stance.
Whoever your interests were tied to, you naturally helped.
But upon arriving at the scene, the officers found that things weren't that simple.
Both deceased victims were military officers from a "certain department," specifically assigned to protect the dignitary's family.
When Gordon and his team arrived, it had only been half an hour since their deaths.
And after surveying the scene, there were no signs of a struggle.
Judging from the surveillance camera footage and the descriptions of people around, there were no traces of outsiders infiltrating before the incident.
And the two deceased were in a very calm state.
Even minutes before their deaths, they had just made coffee.
In such a short time, leaving no trace—no human could do this.
"The forensic doctor's preliminary appraisal result—there were no external injuries on the bodies of the two deceased, and no toxins were detected in the food they ate before death, so the forensic doctor performed an autopsy..."
But the autopsy result was unexpected.
The organs and blood inside the bodies of the two deceased had all disappeared.
"Disappeared?"
William raised an eyebrow.
Gordon stroked his mustache and nodded solemnly.
"Literally disappeared. The incisions were extremely smooth, as if specialized instruments were used, but..."
Gordon thought of something unreasonable.
"But every incision was like this, even blood vessels with very small diameters."
"Even the most precise cutting machine couldn't do it because it would inevitably damage the surrounding soft tissue."
"But those parts of their bodies were as if erased."
William rubbed his chin.
This indeed sounded abnormal.
At first, he thought it was some kind of blood-sucking monster.
But Gordon mentioned that there were no external injuries on the bodies, so it indeed didn't look like a human did it.
Because they had cooperated before, and coupled with his identity as a police officer, Gordon knew that this world was a bit abnormal.
"What's your conclusion?"
Gordon poured himself another cup of holy water.
"Externally, of course, it's 'food poisoning,' but the case hasn't been closed yet." He sighed as he spoke.
It had been more than 72 hours since the crime, and the police station didn't even have a suspect.
This made the dignitary very dissatisfied.
His position had a significant impact on the police station. Once this matter wasn't handled well, the entire station might be implicated.
"Plus there is a public speech coming up soon, so that gentleman started looking for other methods."
Gordon mentioned that when he came to find William, he had already seen a few professionals like William go in.
Of course, putting politicians and charlatans together always left room for gossip.
So those people could only investigate secretly for now, and the progress was slow.
"Has this dignitary come into contact with anything new recently?"
"For example, a certain organization, a certain item?"
William asked.
According to the flow of American horror stories, usually someone courts death by taking an item they shouldn't, and bad luck follows.
But Gordon shook his head:
"We investigated. There isn't even a Bible in this gentleman's house."
"He loathes these things, convinced that such people are just trying to defraud government funds."
"Looking for professionals was also requested by his wife; he himself isn't optimistic about it."
Saying no with his mouth, but his body is honest...
William couldn't help but roast him inwardly.
"Currently, the police force is under a lot of pressure, so I want to ask you to go to the scene and take a look."
William clicked his tongue: "We haven't settled the matter of you introducing those two kids last time."
"Sigh, you don't need to be polite with me!"
Gordon waved his hand, looking not ashamed but proud.
William was speechless; who is being polite with you!
"Those who are able should do more! Thanks to you, the suicides in the community stopped."
Gordon came up and patted William.
"By the way! Forgot to mention, the dignitary's wife offered $50,000 in her personal name as a reward for anyone who can solve the problem."
Hearing this, William immediately stood up and extended his hand: "I'll take this case."
"Hey, William."
At this time, Emma came to the reception room; she had just dried her hair.
"Oh, you kid, haven't seen you for a while, didn't expect you to have a daughter!"
Gordon walked up to Emma with a look of surprise.
"Hey, little girl, what's your name? How old are you?"
Facing the officer's kindly smile, Emma felt disgusted inside.
But she still smiled: "Emma. I'm temporarily staying at Brother William's house."
So well-behaved, cute, and endearing.
Especially that "Brother William."
It reminded Gordon of the scene of saying goodbye to his daughter every morning when he went to work.
"This is a beautiful little princess. William, what do you think?!"
Gordon praised lavishly. This was one of the few advantages of the American people—encouragement education.
Hearing this, William recalled the bathroom experience and silently gave a "No" answer in his heart.
"Hey, William, can you tie my hair for me?"
Emma came to William and extended her right hand; there was a hair tie in her palm.
Facing this little witch's posture, William guessed her intention.
"Hey, William, you have to be a gentleman!" Gordon reminded from the side.
"Bro, I'm a priest!" William roasted inwardly.
But he still checked the hair tie and indeed found nothing abnormal.
But... as an excellent male compatriot, hair tying was not in his skill tree.
So.
"First divide it into two equal parts, then cross and knot..."
Seeing William trying to tie Emma's hair like tying a rope, Gordon hurriedly stopped him.
"Oh, no, no, no!"
He pushed William away and demonstrated the correct operation.
Seeing this, Emma also hurriedly brushed her hair, taking out the razor blade hidden inside.
"Meddlesome!" She cursed inwardly.
A few minutes later.
Gordon gave Emma a hairstyle he called the "Pacific West Coast Ponytail."
William took a look; isn't this just a braid? Acting like no one else knows how to do it.
Anyone who isn't single can learn it.
Although William was single.
Just like everyone present.
After inadvertently neutralizing another of Emma's schemes, the three got into Gordon's car.
Yes, to prevent Emma from doing bad things in the church while William was away.
He decisively brought her along.
Half an hour later.
The three arrived at a high-end residential area.
The environment here was beautiful, with neatly trimmed lawns, rocks and lake water reflecting each other, and rows of modern wooden houses.
The residence was surrounded by explosion-proof walls.
Infrared detectors monitored 24/7, specifically avoiding private living areas.
Security patrols passed on the road every so often.
Even with Gordon's guarantee, William and Emma still went through three rounds of searches.
Only after confirming they carried no dangerous items were the three allowed to enter.
Of course, they used the side door inaccessible to the public.
It could be seen that infiltrating this place was very difficult.
This was also why Gordon sought William out.
In front of House No. 24.
Just as the three stepped onto the stairs, they heard cursing coming from inside.
"Where did you find this bunch of trash!"
