Chapter 35: An Unexpected Call
Ivan stared curiously at William.
This priest didn't look like someone from the Exorcism Academy at all.
"Brother in faith, may I ask which church you are from?" he asked.
"Philadelphia West District."
Ivan was surprised.
He thought the other party was at least a godfather of a parish, but he turned out to be from a local church.
West District?
If he remembered correctly, that place seemed to be a slum.
Thinking of this, Ivan turned to look at Percy.
"Ma'am, why don't I join you? After all, I'm from the Academy."
Ivan wanted to try again.
But Percy shook her head and specifically asked for that kid from the slum!
So, only William, Percy, and Emma remained in the room.
William certainly wouldn't let Emma, this unstable element, run around.
And she was unexpectedly cooperative, seemingly very curious about evil spirits.
"Phew... Father, that scared me to death just now!"
Percy put down the case and patted her chest.
Seeing that she was about to start chattering again, William quickly interrupted:
"Ms. Percy, please help me watch this kid." He pointed at Emma.
Then he came to "Carol."
At this moment, the latter looked at William with interest.
"The Church really has a lot of slaves, but you seem different from the previous one..."
Halfway through, "Carol" frowned; it actually couldn't "see" this priest's past.
This was unimaginable!
Unlike those low-level trashes, "Carol" was a higher-level existence.
It could glimpse a trace of "The Non-Existent Space."
That was why it could steal part of that Angel's authority.
But at this moment, when it looked at this priest, there was only a fog.
"If you also delusionally want to ask my name..."
"Carol" thought maybe it was overthinking, maybe something went wrong when merging with the girl, so it planned to repeat its old trick.
"Sorry, I'm not interested in your name."
But William interrupted rudely.
"What?"
It didn't seem to understand.
But immediately after, it saw the priest opposite take out a mini crucifix.
Then hover it over its head.
"Lost child..."
William activated [Psychological Counseling], exploring Carol's inner world, trying to find her consciousness.
After witnessing Ivan's failure, he gave up the idea of chanting exorcism scriptures.
Instead, he planned to guide Carol to regain control of her body, and then expel the evil spirit.
This was also a way to expel demons.
But this method required a lot from the exorcist; one had to constantly call out to the possessed person's consciousness.
And face the evil spirit's bewitchment along the way.
However, [Psychological Counseling] could point directly to the deepest part of a person's heart, so naturally, there were no such concerns.
Seeing this priest despise itself so much, "Carol" immediately wanted to teach him a lesson.
But then, it found its control over this body weakening continuously.
And another consciousness was awakening.
"How is this possible!"
...
Under William's constant guidance, he finally succeeded in recalling Carol.
And he also knew the reason for her possession.
A few years ago, Niken was just a district attorney.
Once, by chance, he was invited to visit an exhibition, and Carol happened to go with him.
She accidentally touched a sculpture of a carrier pigeon.
Since then, Carol often heard small whispers...
At this time, William knew the name of this evil spirit—
Shax, ranked 44th among the 72 demons of Solomon.
"These guys again."
William narrowed his eyes.
"But compared to the one in Ravens Fair, this one seems a bit weak?"
He felt the opponent's strength wasn't as strong as imagined.
But since Carol was back, he didn't hesitate anymore and immediately started the exorcism ritual.
Before acting, William put a crucifix into Carol's hand to ensure she wouldn't be harmed again after the ritual started.
As William chanted the exorcism mantra, a pure Holy Power wrapped around Carol.
Then, a spirit body resembling a carrier pigeon emerged from her.
"Damn it, who are you! To have the ability to explore consciousness."
The pigeon's voice sounded resentful.
But William ignored it completely.
"Hmph, I'm just a wisp of consciousness left outside. Even if purified, it can't hurt the main body."
"But if you act, information about you will also be transmitted back to the main body. Do you plan to be remembered by a Demon God?"
The pigeon threatened.
But William didn't speak; he just splashed a bottle of holy water.
Sizzle... hiss...
The pigeon's spirit body instantly shrank a lot.
"Damn Church, you will pay the price!"
The pigeon cursed angrily and soon dissipated completely.
At the same time, Carol regained consciousness.
"What... happened to me?"
William was about to comfort her when he suddenly glimpsed a tiny shadow flying out of Carol's sleeve.
Soon it broke the glass and flew out.
Outside, a small carrier pigeon revealed itself.
"Hmph, that was close."
It rejoiced secretly; if it hadn't saved a trick for last, it might really have been purified.
But not far after flying, an invisible barrier suddenly appeared in front of it.
Just before hitting it, the pigeon stopped.
"Damn Church, so cunning!"
If it hadn't reacted in advance, it would have been caught.
"Looks like just a 3-year-old holy artifact."
The pigeon thought for a moment and used its own spirit body to crack it.
After some effort, it broke through successfully.
But immediately after, another barrier appeared in front of it.
The pigeon glared angrily, its spirit body almost dissipating.
"In just a thousand years, how have these Church servants become so despicable!"
It couldn't believe it.
But no matter what, it couldn't stop now. Hundreds of years ago, it paid a considerable price to separate from the main body.
"Actually 10-year-old..."
This time it took longer.
And after breaking through successfully, the pigeon's spirit body was only the size of a fingernail.
But a few meters later, a third barrier appeared impressively.
The pigeon couldn't bear it anymore and cursed loudly, cursing every famous person in the Church over the past thousand years.
When William collected it into the wooden jar, this was the scene he saw.
As usual, he wrapped the wooden jar with paper strips before returning to the house.
At this time, everyone knew the exorcism was successful.
Mrs. Dale hugged Carol tightly, thanking Percy sincerely.
Although Niken lost face, he was indeed a veteran in politics; at this moment, he could actually talk to Percy with a smile.
John was also surprised aside. He originally thought this lady was a demon hunter like him.
But he asked himself, faced with the previous scene, he would have been helpless.
And that burly man Zion slipped away quietly with Morrison after William and the others came out.
Facing everyone's praise, Percy was a bit embarrassed.
She knew William did all this but didn't understand why he gave the credit to her.
As for Ivan, he was composed. Although unhappy, he still found William.
"Father... William?"
He had already asked Gordon for William's name.
"Can we speak privately?"
William raised an eyebrow, thought for a moment, and nodded.
The two went to a secluded place.
"I have a favor to ask..." Ivan smiled.
After some communication, the other party actually wanted William to persuade Percy to negotiate with Jim about building the church.
"You are so young; staying in the West District is really a waste of talent. After the matter is done, I can recommend you to enter the Diocese. As for that lady, the Church will also give compensation..."
William didn't expect him to still be persistent.
Leaving aside how safe his own church was, even if William nodded, Mr. Niken wouldn't agree.
A problem solved with $50,000, asking him to spend the money for three churches?
This Ivan was too idealistic; this politician would never do a losing business.
So he had to decline on the grounds of "not being familiar with Percy" and then bid farewell.
After getting the $50,000, William gave $10,000 to Percy.
For the latter, this was a very large sum of money.
After all, Percy bore the credit (trouble) for him; this money was also compensation.
Before parting, Percy hugged William excitedly for a while.
This also made the latter confirm again—the previous tactile sensation was not wrong!
...
William and Emma returned to the church in Gordon's car.
As soon as they entered, the phone rang abruptly.
William picked up the receiver, and a childish voice came from the other side.
"Hello, Father William! It's Dustin. We need your help!"
