Chapter 33: The Divine Descent
Jim never dreamed he would see his father again.
When his father's spirit appeared before him just like that...
He seemed to doubt the very world he lived in.
At the same time, another murder had occurred, finally shaking Jim's beliefs.
After arranging for someone to deal with the body on the first floor, he brought Ivan to the second floor.
"Can you really solve this?"
After hearing the other party's words, Jim frowned and asked.
"Of course. I have already found the hiding place of the evil spirit."
Ivan seemed confident.
"It's in your daughter."
As soon as these words came out, everyone looked surprised.
William raised an eyebrow, not expecting someone else besides him to discover it.
Previously, he had used [Night Vision] to find the palm print on the corpse's abdomen.
Combined with Gordon mentioning on the way here that Jim had a daughter...
So he guessed the evil spirit was controlling the little girl's body through some method to kill people.
"The abdomen of the corpse downstairs..."
Ivan elaborated on his point of view, which was basically consistent with William's conclusion.
Aside, hearing Ivan mention the "clear palm print," John's eyes showed astonishment.
Even he could only see a vague outline.
To achieve Ivan's level of [Spirit Vision], one had to be at least a Bishop.
At the same time, John also noticed the pattern on Ivan's sleeve.
"This style of crest, it seems to be..."
Thinking of this, he tentatively asked: "Mr. Bray, are you from the Exorcism Academy?"
Ivan raised an eyebrow: "Oh? I didn't expect someone to recognize it."
After getting a confirmed answer, John immediately expressed his respect.
Recently, news about the Church's Holy Word had spread in the exorcist circle.
And the Exorcism Academy had become a place many aspired to.
Unlike the Church, the heritage of demon hunters was scarce and often incomplete.
They could only rely on the experience left by the previous generation of demon hunters and exorcism weapons.
Therefore, the number of such exorcists was small, generally only active in the West.
But since the "Holy Word" descended, the Church had shown its formidable resources.
They had a very ancient and complete heritage.
For example, the Exorcism Academy divided the cultivation of clerics into three ranks.
Newcomers just selected into the academy were marked by a Bronze Cross on their cuffs.
Setting aside some connected individuals, clerics of this rank were extremely talented, some even having cultivated "Holy Power" before entering the academy.
The higher-level Silver Cross Clerics were one in ten thousand.
They not only had achievements in Holy Power cultivation but also possessed rich exorcism experience.
Such clerics numbered no more than 32 in all North American Exorcism Academies.
Each one placed outside would be Bishop-level, the future backbone of the Church.
And right now, one stood before John.
Ivan wasn't surprised by everyone's reaction; he had seen such scenes many times.
And his visit this time wasn't just as he said earlier—sent by the Church to help this local dignitary.
Ivan's true purpose was to obtain Holy Power using the church (building project) as an anchor.
The difficulty of cultivating Holy Power was a consensus in this industry.
The most common and stable way was to persist in daily spiritual practice, experiencing and comprehending the true meaning of the Bible.
But many clerics spent their whole lives without touching the realm of Holy Power until death.
Thus, other methods were derived—Assimilation and Infusion.
The former, as the name suggested, was merging externally derived Holy Power with oneself.
Every time an exorcism was completed or a church was built, a trace of power would be generated.
It originated from "The Non-Existent Space."
In the Bible, this was a transit station between Heaven and Hell.
After evil spirits, demons, and clerics died, their power would return there.
And their souls would choose to go to Heaven or Hell based on their deeds in life.
After many years, the power here would flow back to the human world.
Thus producing new evil spirits, demons, mediums, and clerics.
And if a cleric purified this power with prayers, they could merge with it and transform it into their own Holy Power.
But the Holy Power obtained this way wasn't completely pure.
So clerics still needed to chant the Bible to cleanse their hearts.
Even so, this was recognized by clerics as an important way to quickly improve strength.
The latter method involved Church secrets.
The so-called Infusion meant sealing a cleric's Holy Power after death and injecting it into a new cleric.
The latter would thus greatly increase in strength, saving decades of hard cultivation.
It was said that the Church mastered this technique hundreds of years ago.
Compared to the former, the risk of Infusion was greatly reduced.
But unless one made a major contribution to the Church, ordinary clerics could hardly enjoy it.
Ivan was already impressive in Holy Power cultivation; as long as he followed the steps, his future achievements would be limitless.
The reason he was still obsessed with this was because of another "Holy Word" from the Church.
Only a very small number of people knew about this.
The Holy Word predicted that the human world would soon welcome the first "Divine Descent."
When that day came, an Evil God would arrive in the present world through "The Non-Existent Space."
Like a vanguard before Judgment Day.
To deal with this calamity, the higher-ups of the Exorcism Academy had demanded that all clerics must focus on cultivating Holy Power.
At the same time, the arrival of the Divine Descent would briefly open "The Non-Existent Space."
The power floating there would also dissipate into the human world.
If lucky enough to get a share, one could improve their strength with it.
Such an infusion was more barbaric and thus riskier.
But correspondingly, it didn't require reliance on the Church.
However, to achieve something during the "Divine Descent," one must have at least ten years of Holy Power.
This was why Ivan came here.
Not long ago, to reach a deal with this dignitary, he even risked using necromancy.
This was an innate ability of Ivan's, known to no one but him.
If not for his parents, perhaps he would have become a medium.
And summoning the dead was regarded in the Church as a severe blasphemy against the deceased.
But fortunately, it got the job done.
Back to the present.
Ivan understood as soon as he saw Jim's daughter—it was nothing more than some evil spirit possession.
Judging from the pattern left on the corpse, the opponent should be of the "Lost Angel" lineage.
The reason he said lineage was because the power on the corpse was very weak.
If that Angel himself came, Ivan would have run away long ago.
If it was just an ordinary evil spirit that obtained that Angel's power through some method.
This was naturally much easier to handle—
Just force the opponent to appear with exorcism mantras, guide it to say its name, and then destroy it.
Thinking of this, Ivan took a step forward.
"Mr. Niken, the exorcism must be decided as soon as possible, otherwise the evil spirit might harm your daughter's soul."
Niken narrowed his eyes.
A moment later.
"Okay, as long as you can save Carol, I'll agree to that matter."
"Of course." Ivan smiled.
He immediately came to Carol's side; the latter seemed a bit afraid.
Ivan took out a crucifix and began chanting exorcism scriptures at the little girl.
At first, there seemed to be no abnormality.
Just as everyone was confused, Carol's eyes suddenly rolled back.
