Sally's POV
Sean sits at the kitchen table when I walk downstairs, coffee steaming in his hands. His shoulders are tense, but his expression gentles the moment he sees me.
"Any sleep at all?" he asks.
"Some," I answer truthfully, reaching for a mug from the cabinet. The coffee is still warm when I pour it, and I lean against the counter, suddenly feeling lost in my own space.
His eyes follow my movements before he speaks again. "How's Karl doing?"
I nod slowly. "Still sleeping. He was completely drained."
"Good that he stayed with you last night," Sean says, his voice careful. "You both needed that comfort. Something that felt normal."
The word normal hits me like a slap because nothing about this situation feels remotely normal.
"And Ajax..." I start, then stop, unsure how to finish the question. Is he angry with me? Has he left us? Can he still feel whatever this bond is supposed to be?
