Sally's POV
Karl walks in just as we finish breakfast. His hair is still wet from the shower, and his shirt sticks to his chest like he rushed getting dressed. Dark circles shadow his eyes, but he looks more like himself than he did yesterday. When he spots me, a tired smile crosses his face.
"Hey," he says, his voice rough with sleep.
"Morning. You look better."
He moves into the room and drops a gentle kiss on top of Warren's head as he passes. "Feel better too. Slept hard."
Sean gives him a brief nod before returning to clearing the dishes. Something tense passes between them, and my stomach knots. I pray I'm not causing problems.
"I was thinking," Karl turns to face me, "we could go see Philip today. If you want."
My pulse jumps. "Right now?"
"Everything's secure. Extra patrols are running. He's stable and asking for you."
Relief floods through me. "Yes. Please."
Sean glances up from the sink. "I'll watch Warren."
