Chapter 9 - I DON'T DRINK WINE

Tricia POV

My eyes flew to the book on the couch, and I wondered what wrong my family had done to them. I prayed that my husband didn't want to torment me for their betrayal. Anyway, he's been kind to me ever since I got here.

I heard a slight knock on the door and thought of the reason Morgan would knock on the door. Maybe...

My thoughts were interrupted when the door was pushed open. It was one of Morgan's men. He smiled, looked at me, and walked to the book on the couch.

"I hope you haven't seen this?" he asked holding it to his chest and turned before walking out. "You could have read this. Do not take it to heart."

Without waiting any moment, he walked out. My eyes blinked as I thought of what he meant by DO NOT TAKE IT TO HEART. Anyway, it was none of my business, I sighed.

"Tricia!" I heard my name as the door opened. It was Morgan.

The way he was staring at me scared me. I didn't see love in his eyes, neither did I see hatred, and I wondered why he called me.

I got up to my feet and stared at him while he slowly walked to me. My eyes blinked as I planned on moving back, but behind me was the bed. He walked close to me and I fell to the bed.

Immediately, I fell to the bed; he pulled me up.

"Your curious spirit made you check the journal," he said. "Consider my acceptance to marry you a saving."

He stared at me and I could only wonder what he meant by that. His hands were on my waist. I continued staring at him, but he smiled at me asking if I had any questions. My question blurred out of my mouth as I didn't expect.

I asked him if he had killed my father because I saw his name in the Book of Betrayers. Morgan laughed and held up my chin, asking me if I would believe him when he told me the truth, and I nodded.

A puzzle I have been trying to solve will be solved soon. I wasn't expecting what I heard next. Morgan said a name, did I hear him well? He said Alexander Loyd.

How could Alex murder his parents?

"I do not believe you," I said to Morgan who didn't show that he cared.

"Thought as much," he said coldly.

He took his hands off my waist and I fell to the bed, forcing back the tears which threatened to fall from my eyes. I asked him why my father's name was part of the betrayers, but he smiled, walked to the couch, and told me that I couldn't know yet.

My heart told me that he was nothing like a nice man, but I chose to believe otherwise. Apart from his body and words, he had a nice face and behavior.

"Tomorrow, we will be leaving for our house," he said and my stomach ached.

"Our house? Isn't this our house?" I asked.

"It's my house," he said. "Not yours."

My heart wondered why he spoke like this, but I chose not to respond.

"You need to earn it," I heard him say again.

I looked confused at him then I asked him for the reason he said our house. Morgan told me that it was where he would be staying with me.

"Another place like this," I said but he didn't reply.

We walked out of the room together and I saw all the young men together. A word Morgan said baffled me. He told the men that he would be wedding me the next week, but only in their presence.

They all clapped hearing this, but I was surprised. Why didn't he want us to wed in a congregation? Why does he want it done in the midst of his friends? Maybe he doesn't want to.

He looked at me and I wore a smile.

"You should get in there," he said to one of the men. "Get one bottle."

The man left to the room Morgan had pointed to. He walked out with a bottle of wine and walked to another table pouring out the drink into the cups.

"I don't drink wine," I said to Morgan who smiled.

Morgan took up two cups and handed one to me. It felt like I was snapped out as I took a sip of the wine. They all laughed at me as I made an irritating sound.

"Drink on," Morgan urged me.

It wasn't bitter but peppery. It felt like they wanted me to drink a lot of pepper. I gulped down everything, and my eyes seemed unstable. It blinked and I tried to hold Morgan.

Morgan raised me up and placed me on a table while they finished their wine. Isn't it from the same bottle we all drank? Why are my eyes hitching?

I rubbed my eyes as I managed to see. Morgan walked to me and told me that he couldn't believe that I hadn't had this in my life. He told me how he thought Alex taught me how to drink.

Hearing the name Alex made me remember what he had called Morgan.

"How much is that? The wine."

"Two thousand dollars," I heard from the crowd.

"That's....." I tried to say.

"Too cheap," Morgan said as I fell on his shoulder.

Waking up, I saw Morgan and Johnny on the couch of the room.

"You are awake," Johnny said and I nodded. "You should have a headache."

I nodded my head in response to what he said. Morgan smiled, got up, and handed me a bottle."

"It will help stop the pain." He said, and I nodded following his instructions.

After taking two sips, I could no longer feel the pain. Johnny smiled, looking at me, and said, "You won't feel like that again next time you take it."

I looked at Morgan, who looked away, and I smiled.
