Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Valkyrie

From the bits and pieces of the information Rudra had gathered, he knew that Valkyries were a type of special force that the church had created. All of the valkyries were blessed by Goddess Lumina, and if his information about the valkyries was correct, that meant sister Maria would be able to handle the monsters without any problem.

"Alright, everyone, let's move out, but before I move out, I must remind you not to break the formation when using the artifact, no matter what happens," said sister Maria before she disappeared.

`Child, you should head back home immediately. Take care of the little ones in there, they must be scared because of all the commotion.` Rudra jumped up in panic as the voice of his sister Maria echoed in his head.

'Sigh..... this must be the skill called voice transmission, such a mysterious power. Almost gave a heart attack,' thought Rudra as he was suddenly fascinated by the skill.

Rudra was told to go inside, but he didn't want to leave just yet because he wanted to see the battle for himself. This was the first time for him to be able to witness the use of supernatural power, so he didn't want to waste this opportunity.

'Maybe if I see this fight, I will finally be able to sense spiritual energy. I must grasp this power if I want to survive in this world.' Rudra seemed sad as he suddenly recalled the events that happened a few months ago.

A few months ago, the orphanage held a coming-of-age event. This event was organized to find out what type of power a child has. This was the event where the church found out about the exceptional abilities of Julie and Arthur, but unlike them, when Rudra was checked, they found no such abilities. Rudra was the only child who was unable to feel and manipulate spiritual energy like the rest of the children.

In this world, being unable to sense spiritual power was akin to a death sentence. When Rudra heard that, he was completely shaken. That's when Sister Maria told him that some people awaken their powers later than others. While Sister said those things, Rudra could immediately tell that she was hiding something more or just lying.

Rudra himself started consoling himself on this matter. He thought it was taking him time because he wasn't originally from this world. Even if that was the case, he was willing to do anything to gain that power.

....

BANG

Rudra was lost in his thoughts when he was suddenly woken up because of the loud noise. Turning his head towards the direction of the slums, all he could see was Sister Maria floating mid-air. The most shocking part was that the monsters were dropping like flies all around her. Rudra couldn't believe what he was witnessing, such a powerful display of strength.

While Rudra was enjoying the show, suddenly a transparent dome-like structure started to cover the entirety of the orphanage. The structure looked like it was made of glass, which would break with the slightest touch; however, in reality, this barrier would be able to withstand many attacks of Sister Maria herself.

Rudra kept on watching as Sister kept on massacring all of the monsters in her vicinity. If she goes on like this, it will be over in just under 3 minutes.

ROAR

'What the hell was that? Are there more monsters attacking?' Out of the blue, Rudra heard a roar that made him weak on his knees. Followed by the huge commotion, a flock of huge flying monsters came rushing towards Sister Maria.

'Are they Wyvern?' Rudra asked himself as he saw more than 30 beasts approaching Sister Maria. The Wyvern were said to be the descendants of the dragons, and their blood contains a very minuscule amount of dragon blood. However, if it was a factor, just a rumour that was up for debate, on the other hand, though dragon blood or not, it was an undeniable fact that the wyverns were very powerful creatures.

Wyverns mostly loved to live in a very isolated place; they are very territorial creatures, so they hated when other creatures intruded on their lands. As they didn't like visitors in their territory, they also didn't like to wander outside of their territory. That's why it is considered very bad luck if you ever spot any wyvern outside of its territory, let alone a group of 30. This sight left most of the people witnessing in shock and horror; however, Sister Maria, on the other hand, had a very tense expression on her face. It was very hard to discern what was going on in her mind.

'I have a very bad feeling about this. I need to finish this fight as soon as possible,' said Sister Maria to herself as she gripped the halberd in her hand tightly. While in mid air, she started chanting something in an ancient language as she extended her hand backward, aiming her halbread towards the wyvern. As she continued chanting the spell, a storm began to rage in the area around Sister Maria. Even from a far distance, you could tell just how fierce the winds were over there. Rudra could instantly feel that if he were beside Sister Maria right now, he would be ripped to shreds just because of the winds.

The storm was ot the only thing that made people stare in awe, above her head, a gigantic halberd was being materialized, entirely made of light. The Halberd was so gigantic and bright that everyone in the town was able to see it that thing.

"Just what type of spell can cause such a phenomenon to occur? Just how strong is Sister Maria? What is she doing here in such a remote area if she is so powerful?" asked Rudra to himself, his face had the expression of shock, awe, terror, joy, all of them mixed. While all of these questions replayed in his head, he had decided one thing was for sure: he had to do anything he could in his power to become the most powerful person in this world. Becoming strong was directly linked to happiness in this world, so Rudra had decided he wanted to join an academy to become stronger, that is, if he was able to survive this day.

THUNDER

"With this, I will end all of you. HOLY LANCEEE..." yelled SIster Maria as she used one of the most powerful skills she had obtained because of the Goddess's blessings. The Halberd that she threw flew straight towards the group of wyverns. As the halberd flew towards the wyverns, the sky started crackling. Before Rudra's eyes could catch what had happened, the sky became silent, and the wyverns were nowhere to be seen.

After a few seconds of gut-wrenching silence, it started raining although the lightning and storm had disappeared.

'Wait, don't tell me....' While Rudra could hear the cheers and the happiness of the people from the slums, he suddenly noticed something that made his heart drop. If you were to look at the rain from a distance, you wouldn't find anything special or strange; however, when Rudra focused on the rain, he could tell that it was all blood.
