Chapter 18 - The Healer and Her Patient

The sun sets as the moon emerges from below.

Surprisingly, no Calamities stumble upon fhe supermarket where they stayed currently, allowing them to have their rest.

In turn, they enjoy each other's company as each member of the group engage with one another.

Sirius distances himself, looking at the chatting group of friends, acquaintance for him.

He tried to open his mouth, but failed nonetheless, each time he wanted to join in the conversations he hesitates. So, not knowing what to do, he simply walks up to Thea before informing her that he needs to take a bathroom break.

Thea nods at him as he nods back before slowly walking out of the supermarket through the shattered windows.

Sirius, upon walking out and breathing in the fresh air of nature lets out a sigh.

He looks around before he sneakily walks up to the area near the Gate.

Walking past rubbles and depressions on the ground, Sirius arrives right in front of the Gate.

From here, he could see through the Gate, the tunnel that led him and the others out of the Abyss is now blocked with rocks.

Sirius knew that going back through a Gate you just passed through doesn't work.

It's like opening a door and walking inside a room but the door where you came from is now locked. You can only go out of the room by searching for another door.

He doesn't know much of Gate and Abyss itself but he had some experiences with it, courtesy to Cassian.

Which led Sirius to believe that the other Gate resided somewhere underneath.

His earlier decision back on the pillar wasn't only based on his insticts, but on the fact that from his experience, the other Gate had always been somewhere underneath.

From his assumption, it goes the other way too.

Find a central point, where the Calamities group up, and then either go underneath or upward if the Gate you walk through is somewhere low.

Still, Sirius had never once experimented on what he is going to do.

An idea pops up in his head on how to utilize [Stellar Force] to form a powerful attack. After all, the issue with him is he doesn't have enough firepower to end a battle with either a single or a few decisive blows.

Sirius brings up his index finger in front of him as he activates [Stellar Force]. Dots of blue invisible from the untrained eye escapes from his Soul and he redirects it to where he wills it.

The blue dots gather on top of his index, the blue dots concentrate and slowly forms a dot visible now to Sirius' eyes.

He adds more from his Soul, as the dot grows bigger and bigger.

Slowly it forms a sphere, and he starts to spin those dots, the sphere itself to rotate and spin at a high speed.

"Spin it... and..."

Sirius smiles in satisfaction upon seeing the rotation, before he points his index finger at the rubble of stones gathering on the other side of the Gate.

Sirius tries to imagine a faster rotation, and at the same time, he pours in more mana from his Soul through the help of [Stellar Force].

Surprisingly, as Sirius feels the powerful sphere of mana gathering on top of his index finger, it doesn't really feel like his mana is drained.

But, he is sure that if he does this move... four more times, his mana tank would be dried up and empty.

Sirius smiles... but as he tries to speed up the rotational spin, the sphere starts to shake, as if trembling. The energy feels like it is about to explode.

Sirius's brow creased, knew that if he tries to rotate it too fast, the form of the sphere itself would crumble.

So... with intuition, he tries to compress the sphere.

Sirius commands the sphere to compress, the ball of blue slowly turns smaller, but in turn, the sphere rotates faster.

It breaks.

The sphere of blue stellar energy ruptures, imploding from the inside and exploding the kinetic spinning energy outwards, leaving a gust of wind and stellar energy that shoots a shockwave.

Sirius is thrown back a bit, rocks shatter, and walls crack as Sirius coughs, kneeling down while dust swirl near him as he lets out a sigh.

'Well... that's a mess...'

Sirius thinks to himself before sighing.

With a thought, a blue sword forms as it hovers aside him.

Sirius aims at the sword at the rubbles on the other side of the Gate.

Since one cannot return to the Gate where they had entered or left from, what about inanimated objects? What about attacks from mana?

He's about to find out.

Sirius shoots the sword at the Gate.

...

Unfortunately, the Gate simply... swallowed it.

The Gate swallowed the sword as it dissipates into nothingness.

Letting out a sigh he watched it happen, Sirius tries to slip his hands inside a pocket, only to inevitably fail as his hands merely touch the black scales that fit perfectly onto his body.

"Right..."

So, with that in mind Sirius goes back to the supermarket and see the seven people talking around, before noticing Sirius coming inside.

"What was that?"

Adam asks, being the sensitive one to mana due to his [Detector] rune.

Sirius shakes his head.

"Nothing, I was just testing things out."

Adam nods, trusting Sirius. He had used his Rune to detect the energy right after Sirius' sphere exploded and noticed only Sirius' with no other beings around.

"What did you test out? I thought you were going to take a bathroom break."

"...I was, until an idea pops up in my head while I was taking the bathroom break. As for what I was testing... simple, a new form of attack I guess."

Sirius lies out of his teeth as Thea nods upon hearing Sirius' words.

He leans near one of the shelfs as he watch the others continue on conversing with one another. His face unreadable as he lets out a sigh.

Though, Sol noticed Sirius as she looks at him before motioning him to come over with her gesture.

Sirius blinks a few time before silently walking towards her as she pats a seat on the floor next to her.

Thea is to her other side, conversing with Luna who surprisingly talks much more than usual.

As Sirius sits next to Sol, she glances at him.

"So... what form of attack was it?"

Sol asks, tilting her head as Sirius looks at her before smiling.

"It was a spinning sphere made from my mana."

Sirius began explaining his thoughts, how he formed a sphere on his index that slowly expanded before starting a rotation of the sphere, spinning it fast.

He explained it all to Sol, who listens attentively to his explanations as if he is a teacher, no, a colleague explaining his foundings excitedly.

"Then, it exploded. I still lacked control of the sphere and the speed of the rotation, I figured it had something to do with maybe stopping the rotation as I shrink it? Maybe I should try that, and only continue speeding up the spin once it is compressed. Otherwise it would rupture. Or maybe it really was a problem of my control."

Sol's brows furrows before she sighs and nod a few time, agreeing with Sirius.

"First of all, did you hurt yourself? If you did, desummon your armor. I'll heal you up again..."

Sol speaks with concern, as Sirius chuckles, shaking his head.

"It was just like feeling like you got thrown off your bike, nothing that concerning."

Sol looks at Sirius with a deadpan before sighing.

"Anyway... back to what I was going to say, you did make the sphere bigger before spinning it. How about you try that first, making a sphere while spinning it and see if the same thing happened when you tried to compress the sphere while spinning it?"

Sol asks, tilting her head a bit as Sirius nods before standing up and walking back for a bit.

Sol follows, looking at Sirius' palm excitedly, hands intertwined behind her back.

Thea and the others stop on their conversations as they look at the young boy and girl conversing excitedly.

The two of them had closened up, scooting up to each other as they were talking, as Sirius was sharing his foundings. Before they now stand in front of each other.

Warmth spread inside Thea as she watches Sirius and Sol conversing with one another...

But... as she looks at Sirius' smiling face as he looks at her sister's eyes warmly, a small tug pricks her heart, before disappearing as fast as it had come.

Thea's eyes narrow to the ground, before she shakes her head and looking back at Sirius and Sol. This time, looking at Sol's eager and earnest face instead.

'Well... she had always been the introverted one between me and her... so it's good that she can talk freely and have that smile... with a new friend.'

Thea talks to herself, her head hung low.

'Yeah... a new friend.'
