A week later, Damien's scandal was slowly fading from the front pages. Newer, shinier headlines about other celebrities and their scandals were now trending. But still, whenever Jossy scrolled through her phone, she caught some posts about Damien, about them. Her statement had been enough to stop the bleeding but not enough to heal the wound. To many, she was still the woman who was standing beside her guilty husband.
But at least, for now, she could breathe. She was happy. Damien's watchful eyes weren't as sharp as before. He had his own messes to clean up,mostly at work as the scandal had made him lose trust with some clients, and on the bright side, that meant that Jossy had a little more freedom. Freedom to step out. Freedom to pretend she was busy searching for work.
That night, while she was brushing her hair, Jossy's phone vibrated. It was her supervisor Clara. Her voice was polite, but there was a firmness to it.
"Jossy, I would like us to meet," she said. "There are some things I want to discuss with you. If you're available tomorrow afternoon, we can sit down in person."
Jossy didn't hesitate. "Of course. I'd be glad to."
Once the call ended, she sat on the edge of her bed, staring into the dark. A meeting. With Clara. Why now?
Her chest tightened as she thought of different possibilities. Maybe they knew she was married to Damien Rothwell? Most likely.
Maybe they had seen the scandal. Maybe they thought she was a liability now. Maybe Clara only wanted to let her down easy, out of respect. She would understand though, associating with her or Damien after the scandal would bring negative publicity to Lennox.
