Chapter 30 – Off to Snatch the Bird Eggs

"No problem."

Zhang Lexuan naturally had no objections. If anything, she felt that Huo Yuhao had been treated unfairly. While the corpse of a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast was incredibly valuable, it still couldn't compare to the life-saving debt he had just incurred.

However, she didn't bother with empty words. Now that she knew Huo Yuhao was living in Heaven Dou City, she could repay him in action when the time came.

Then, as if remembering something, she reached into her storage ring and pulled out a dark crimson envelope, handing it to Huo Yuhao.

"Yuhao, when you turn eleven, you can bring this letter of recommendation to Shrek Academy. I know, given your talent, you wouldn't even need a recommendation to enter Shrek, but I'll do my best to help you secure the best resources possible."

Huo Yuhao looked at the envelope in surprise. This wasn't the city lord's recommendation letter required for general enrollment—it was an Inner Academy recommendation letter.

Although he hadn't used one in his previous life, he had at least heard of them.

For outer academy students wishing to join the Inner Academy, a recommendation from an Inner Academy student was a requirement. By giving Huo Yuhao this letter, Zhang Lexuan ensured that when he enrolled, the teachers would inform her, allowing her to watch over him more closely within the academy.

Huo Yuhao didn't refuse. On one hand, he needed to repay Zhu Lu's debt; on the other, there were old acquaintances he genuinely wanted to see at Shrek Academy. Dai Huabin's older brother, Dai Yaoheng, was still enrolled there.

He hadn't forgotten the words he had spoken to Dai Huabin before leaving the Duke's Mansion.

Thinking of the figure with the soft powder-blue hair, Huo Yuhao pressed his lips together briefly before smiling and taking the envelope.

"Thank you, Sister Lexuan."

After safely storing the envelope, Huo Yuhao drew the White Tiger Dagger and turned his attention to the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard. Seeing the corpse, as massive as a small mountain, a flicker of confusion crossed his face.

It's this big… how am I supposed to cut it?

After hesitating for a moment, he tested the crimson scales with a swipe of his dagger. Sparks flew from the impact, illuminating his slightly dazed expression—enough to make Zhang Lexuan quickly stifle her laughter.

"Ahem… I'll help you with this."

With that, her fifth spirit skill activated. The full moon behind her shifted into a crescent, and under her control, it became a razor-sharp blade, slicing through the dragon lizard's corpse with ease, cutting large, uniform pieces of flesh from the bones.

The corpse's defenses had drastically weakened. While it could still block the White Tiger Dagger's edge, it could not withstand Zhang Lexuan's spirit skill. For Huo Yuhao's convenience in storing it in his ring, she carefully portioned the meat into evenly sized pieces.

As each chunk was removed, a spirit bone emanating a strange, blood-red glow was uncovered. Everyone's eyes glimmered with desire, but no one spoke; by right and fairness, such a reward belonged to the one who contributed the most—Zhang Lexuan.

Using the newly acquired ice-attribute spirit, he froze all the meat under her peculiar gaze. Huo Yuhao's mood lifted slightly, and he smiled again at her in gratitude.

"Thank you, sister Lexuan."

"You're welcome."

Zhang Lexuan opened her mouth but ultimately let out a soft sigh. She didn't ask Huo Yuhao in front of others if he possessed twin martial spirit. Earlier, she had assumed he was just a sensible boy, but now it was clear he was far more extraordinary than she had imagined.

A first spirit ring at a thousand years, twin martial spirit, and the miraculous ability revealed by his Eye of Destiny—it completely shattered her understanding.

"By the way, Yuhao, your talent is remarkable. Were you born into some sect? Or… perhaps a noble family of some empire?"

Earlier, upon seeing Huo Yuhao's vertical eye, she had assumed he was from the Body Sect. But thinking carefully, it didn't make sense. The Body Sect was always overprotective. With Huo Yuhao's talent, they would never have allowed him to venture alone into the Star Dou Great Forest.

"I haven't joined any sect. As for my talent… perhaps it's because my martial spirit mutated," Huo Yuhao replied.

With the matter settled, he didn't intend to linger. Brushing the dust from his body, he prepared to wave goodbye. Just then, a shrill cry echoed from the sky. Looking up, a soil-colored light mass streaked across the sky above them at incredible speed.

"That's… Elder Xuan!"

Seeing the light, Huo Yuhao suddenly furrowed his brow, as if realizing something.

So, the teacher responsible for this incident is Elder Xuan? Then he lied about this in my past life…!?

While he was pondering, Xuan Zi seemed to spot them. The yellow light mass arced in the sky and descended toward their location.

As soon as he landed, he saw the skeletal remains of the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard and the crimson spirit ring. His face immediately changed.

A hundred-thousand-year spirit beast!? How could you encounter a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast in the mixed zone!?

Scanning the scene, he noticed only six survivors. A grim premonition rose in his heart.

"And the others?"

A wave of grief washed over the group. Except for Zhang Lexuan, the remaining female students' eyes brimmed with tears. She whispered softly,

"They're dead…"

The hoarse words sounded like distant thunder in Xuan Zi's ears. He swayed slightly and asked instinctively,

"What?"

"They're all dead! Are you satisfied now?!"

The girl suddenly raised her head, eyes flashing with hatred, glaring at Xuan Zi with venom in her voice.

"Why didn't you appear when we were facing a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast, only to show up now!?"

"Aren't you the teacher responsible for our safety?!"

"Or is this yet another academy test!?"

Xuan Zi opened his mouth but could say nothing.

What could he say? Say he went to snatch a few bird eggs? Say he caught some rare beasts to eat? Say that since he finally got to the Star Dou Great Forest, he went hunting to treat himself?

He hadn't anticipated such a coincidence. Even the mixed zone rarely saw spirit beasts over thirty thousand years. Even if they did, twelve Inner Academy students could handle them easily. That was why he had temporarily left the area.

Who would have thought that in less than a day, the team would encounter a spirit beast so rare, even in the core zone, as a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast?

Thinking that six Inner Academy students had perished because of him, he painfully closed his eyes.

"Are you mute!? Speak!!!"

Seeing Xuan Zi silent, the female student screamed at the top of her lungs.

"What the hell were you doing!? Are you dead or what!?"

"Or does the academy not even care about our lives now!?"
