Chapter 29: Yuhao, I really owe you one this time

The terrifying wave of energy surged relentlessly, and the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard, sensing something amiss, instinctively froze in place. This momentary hesitation gave Zhang Lexuan the chance to create some distance.

Feeling the energy fluctuations behind her, she immediately caught up to Huo Yuhao. In a single motion, she swept him into her embrace and, without the slightest loss of speed, charged forward.

Huo Yuhao, who had been focused solely on fleeing, suddenly felt a soft weight against his back. In that instant, a sense of being flattened by a massive cart overwhelmed him, surging through his mind.

Moments later, the scenery on either side of them blurred backward, and with Zhang Lexuan's assistance, his forward momentum multiplied several times over.

A second passed, and a deafening explosion erupted behind them. The Bone-Chilling roar of the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard seemed capable of shattering eardrums. Already drained from exertion, Huo Yuhao's vision went black, and even his mental senses could no longer function.

Fortunately, Zhang Lexuan had pulled him far enough away to avoid injury.

After the blast, the battle had essentially ended, and his Spirit Detection was no longer necessary.

Zhang Lexuan turned around, and the sight of the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard's pitiful form came into view.

Its long, jagged wound along its abdomen had been completely torn open by the explosion, spilling a torrent of internal organs. Even so, the beast remained alive, lying on the ground in agonizing wails—a terrifying testament to its resilience.

Of course, part of this was due to the fact that Huo Yuhao's Spirit Bomb had been made from two third-rank Spirit tools, limiting its destructive power. Comparatively, it likely wouldn't even match Lexuan's sixth spirit skill. If the explosion hadn't landed right on its vulnerable spot, breaking through its scales might not have been possible.

Although still alive, the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard struggled in vain, unable to rise, clearly devoid of any strength left to resist.

Zhang Lexuan's hatred for the creature, which had nearly wiped out their team, flared. Her sixth spirit ring glowed again, and a terrifying beam of light pierced through the Dragon Lizard's skull, finally ending its life.

As the crimson red spirit ring slowly emerged above its corpse, Huo Yuhao's mind stirred. He suddenly recalled a story Elder Xuan had once told in a past life:

—Twelve inner academy student, along with their team leader, became separated and encountered a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast, with only four surviving in the end.

Though he had seen twelve people the night before, he hadn't connected it to this story. Who could have expected that an event that once seemed like a tale would be witnessed firsthand? Glancing at Zhang Lexuan's Hundred-thousand-year eighth spirit ring, he opened his mouth to speak, only to realize he was still instinctively being held in her arms.

Though he had grown stronger over the past two years, Huo Yuhao was still, in essence, a child. Now, cradled like a mere pillow by the tall and imposing Zhang Lexuan, his feet dangled helplessly above the ground.

A wave of inexplicable embarrassment washed over him. Huo Yuhao's mouth twitched slightly, but he felt too awkward to struggle.

How humiliating!

Whether it was the lingering anger in his heart or the extreme speed Zhang Lexuan had just unleashed, Huo Yuhao only sensed the two massive "headlights" behind him jolting violently, accompanied by a faint, tantalizing fragrance drifting into his nose.

Finally, after a futile struggle, Huo Yuhao gave up.

He felt like a little white mouse ensnared by a python—no matter how he thrashed, it was utterly pointless.

"Uh…Sister Lexuan, can you let me go now?"

"Ah? Oh, right." Zhang Lexuan froze briefly before realizing Huo Yuhao had been caught firmly in her right arm. She quickly set him down, her voice serious.

"Yuhao, I really owe you one this time."

Without Huo Yuhao's help, at least one more inner academy student would have been sacrificed, relying solely on her last sixth spirit skill to hit the target. A single misstep would have meant death for all, including herself.

"It's nothing. I did my best," Huo Yuhao replied.

Before he could finish, the remaining five inner academy students arrived. Seeing the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard's corpse, their eyes widened in shock.

"Senior Zhang, how did you do it?"

Zhang Lexuan opened her mouth to respond, but noticed Huo Yuhao shaking his head slightly. Understanding his silent signal, she refrained from revealing his Eye of Destiny and the purple spirit ring.

To outsiders, the entire ordeal seemed like a sheer stroke of luck. The other disciples' faces were full of relief, while only Zhang Lexuan vaguely sensed the true source of this fortune.

Recalling Huo Yuhao's Eye of Destiny, she shivered instinctively.

Could that be his Martial spirit? Why would it possess such a unique ability?

With the crisis averted, one of the inner academy students glanced at the Lizard's corpse again. His voice trembled with excitement.

"Since the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard is dead, Senior Zhang, you should absorb the spirit ring quickly!"

At this, the others also turned their gaze to the crimson ring hovering above the corpse, their breaths suddenly quickening.

A hundred-thousand-year spirit ring!

Not only the spirit ring—the beast would surely yield a spirit bone as well. Though the process was brutal, the reward was immense.

Huo Yuhao stood silently beside them. As the students eyed the hundred-thousand-year spirit ring, the Sin of Greed in his spiritual sea surged.

The five students were all high-level Spirit Masters, and their combined greed energy accelerated the unlocking of his dark-golden Sin of Greed Origin. It wouldn't be long before it reached completion.

Facing a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring, it was impossible not to be tempted. Though he sensed their desire, his spiritual sea showed no sign of jealousy—an observation that surprised him.

This meant that while the inner academy students also coveted the spirit ring, they harbored no objection to Zhang Lexuan acquiring it.

From their earlier forms of address, it was clear that Zhang Lexuan was not yet the inner academy's senior sister. Her authority and the respect she commanded were a testament to her exceptional reputation.

"What if absorbing a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring with an eighth ring causes complications?"

Another student asked, concerned. They knew the only person capable of absorbing it was Zhang Lexuan; no one else dared, even if they were eligible.

"The hundred-thousand-year spirit bone greatly benefits one's constitution. She can try absorbing that first," another suggested.

Amid the discussion, Zhang Lexuan remained silent, instinctively looking toward Huo Yuhao. He had contributed significantly; it would be unreasonable for her to take all the rewards herself.

The others could be compensated later, but Huo Yuhao could not.

Sensing her gaze, Huo Yuhao smiled.

"You contributed the most, Sister Lexuan. The spirit ring and spirit bone are naturally yours. If possible, let me have the Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard's corpse."

Its attributes weren't suitable for him, and he had little interest. He had only one ring and barely surpassed a millennium in lifespan; only a fool would attempt to absorb a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring.

But the corpse was different. A hundred-thousand-year Blood-Corrosion Dragon Lizard contained immense energy within its flesh. Consumed through his Gluttony Origin, it could accelerate his cultivation significantly. Ten meters long, even eating it as a "snack" would last him years.
